I just received an order from them that I placed on Sunday. I have been looking for this candy for several years now, and saw it listed in their brochure a few weeks ago. They have it listed as puff candy, but I don't know if that's the correct name or not. It's a spun molasses candy that melts in your mouth.

When we were little, we used to go to a penny candy store somewhere near Framingham, MA (possibly in Framingham, I really don't remember) Anyway, this candy was one of our favorites. A few years ago we were talking about all the great trips we made to "The Buffalo Farm" to get candy, and my father and sister and I were trying to figure out what this candy was called. We looked high and low for it and couldn't find it anywhere.

I knew as soon as I saw it in the catalog that it would make a great Christmas present for my father and my sister, so I ordered some. It ships in three bags (lucky me, I get to keep one!)

Does anyone else remember this stuff? I am totally flashing back to my childhood now. :) We found something similar to it in England earlier in the year. It was called cinder toffee, but my sister swears that the stuff we had as children melted in your mouth much faster, and I'll agree, this does seem to be closer to the candy we enjoyed as children.

but Vermont Country Store is a client of ours . And they do find some neat stuff in there. Enjoy your candy!

Ok, you guys are making me hungry... :)

We love visiting the store when we're traveling in New England; it really takes you back to a different (and better ) time and place in America:D :D .......

I don't remember the candy, but I think I remember the store! It was in Framingham on Rt 30 I think, near the rt 9 crossover. Used to get fire balls there. Not sure if it's still there??? Will have to check next time I'm in the area...

Is the candy covered with chocolate?? We used to get a candy like what you described in Buffalo. It was like spun molassas covered in chocolate and it melted in your mouth when you ate it. You can get this at Morrows Nut House also. Im looking for one in my area to buy it but so many of them have gone out of business. Im glad to know the VT store has it if its the same thing.

Souds good,

Can you post the website, please!

DBF's daughter lives maybe 5 miles from a Vermont Country Store.....I HAVE to go in there every time we drive up for a visit!

If you are ever in Vermont definitely find one and go in. It's awesome!

I love that candy and havent had that in YEARS. Is there anyway you can post the sight? I know it is to late to get that for on the table at Christmas but I am think Easter gets here before you know it. :D I found it, I typed in Vermont country store and it came up, wow, I wish I knew how to post it here.

I hope that link works. If not, try http://www.vermontcountrystore.com and then type in molasses in the search window.

Jill, I think you are talking about the same place. I know it wasn't too far from route 9. There was a field across the street from the candy store. In the field were buffalo (bison), so we used to call the store "The Buffalo Farm" but I don't know if that was the real name or the name my family made up! :)

lvs_eeyore, they candy they sell on the VCS site is not covered in chocolate, although I did see some that was covered in chocolate when we were in England. Try doing a Google search for sponge candy or molasses candy. I did a search earlier and found some that was chocolate covered, but I don't remember the site (or if it was even available in the USA). Ok, is this what you are looking for? Honeycomb candy

Sounds like we will have to make a special trip to Vermont to enjoy browsing in the store. The catalog is great!!! It ALMOST makes me wish we lived in a colder region (but not quite...) ;)

This is a great store!! I received some candies as a gift from someone who remembered I said I hadn't seen them since I was a kid at the movie theater...chocolate babies!!
