The typical "which resort for us" question???

I know this gets asked ALL the time, but I am really stuck and need some input.

We are going to WDW Dec 30th to Jan 6th. I have no clue where to stay. It will be me, DH, DD(9), DS(5.5) and DS (2.5). I *thought* I wanted a monorail resort but they are a bit pricey for me for this trip (its a wedding DD is in so its costing me quite a bit!) and I'm thinking they are really only most convenient for going to MK, right?

We have stayed at CBR and POFQ and liked both. But neither of those will fit our family of 5, right? (does DS count because he's only 2?). I think the kids would enjoy the animals of AKL but it seems so far from MK.

The wedding will be at GF, we'll be spending our days at MK, MGM and probably one day each at Epcot and AK.

So based on all this, what resort seems right for us? Or maybe more importantly, what things should I consider when deciding on a resort???

How about WL? Your 2.5 year old won't count toward the room occupancy so that would be your last chance to try a regular room at WL (max occupancy 4 plus one child under 3). That way you would have the boat to MK and CR and it's fairly close to the GF.

If that's out of your price range you can still do any mod resort until your youngest turns 3.

Have fun planning (from one NJ Disney Mom to another!)

If you're looking for your cheapest option then POR is it. Our family of 5 has stayed there and it's a very beautiful resort. The trundle bed should be comfortable for any of your kids - my oldest slept on it and he was almost 10 at the time and tall for his age. Good luck with your decision!

Hmmm....I just read Disneymomx7's response and I'm pretty sure it's kids under 2, not under 3 ,who don't count towards room occupancy. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm almost positive I'm not.

No 3 is the cut off for everything at Disney. Kids who are under 3 do not count towards the occupancy, they don't need park tickets and they are free at buffets. I'm sure of this because of our first trip ds was just shy of 3 years old and it was a "freebie" trip for him!

We think AKL is stunning and really want to try it out on our next trip. I have heard that they dont share busses with the other hotels so that makes up some of the time lost because of the distance. Plus there are activities here for the kids all day -- like feeding flamingos, cookie decorating, fireside storytelling, and of course the animals. And it costs less than the monorail resorts.

Otherwise, the Epcot area resorts are really nice -- still expensive but less than those on the monorail. And they have boat/walking access to both Epcot and the DHS.

I am thinking AKL or WL are your best bets. The two year old doesnt count so you can fit in any resort!!!

the wedding will be at GF, and most of your days will be spend at MK - is that correct?

then WL or VWL. the CR still has the South wings and these are a bargin for a monrail resort. then you could get to MK and Epcot fairly easy by the monrail or walking.

if only one day at Epcot or Studios or AK - won't go with the hotels close to them. Not when MK is the main park (if I have that information right).

that say if Studios is a main park - then BWI/V or BC/V.

Since you are there for a wedding would think time issues so can't recommend AKL/V - it is beautiful. but more on a vacation than when you have to be at a certain place at a certain time.

for moderates - POR or POFQ - both are nice.

for values - Pop or Asmu or Asmo

if you really have to save money Pop if just fine.

although would say near the wedding area if you can.
