The Twelve Days of Swinter: From Castaway 'Key' to a Partridge in a Palm Tree!

Your daughter is beautiful! I wish I would have done something like that with my one and only daughter too but she's 20 now... so I'm guessing it's probably too late. :confused3 Looks like fun though. Just some more of those special touches that makes Disney so special! :goodvibes

Thank you! Yes, only at Disney can you have a magical tea party like that! Maybe you'll have some grandkids that you can take to it one day! :thumbsup2

Ok, I'm hashing over ADRs and would love to know if any of you have tried any of these places. If so, I'd love to know what you thought of the food and what you ordered if you can remember.

Liberty Tree Tavern - Can't decide between lunch or dinner. I've heard the pot roast at lunch is wonderful, but the family style Thanksgiving dinner sounds good too.

Tutto Italia or Via Napoli - (Lunch or Dinner) I'd like to try one of these, just not sure which one or what to order at either.

Narcoosee's - (Dinner) You all know how I like to go somewhere that you can see the fireworks while you eat. The food also seems to get good reviews, but I have no idea what to order. Also not sure if it's worth 2 credits.

T-Rex - (Lunch or Dinner) The food here gets mixed reviews so I'm not sure if we should just check out the gift shop and leave or actually eat there.

Boatwright's - Surprisingly, this gets good reviews. It will be convenient if we stay at POR too, but I know nothing about it.

Kona - (Breakfast) This is a definite... I'm thinking Tonga Toast or the Pineapple Mac. Pancakes.

Tusker House - (Breakfast) Also a definite... I've heard the food is good and we want to go for the characters

I'd also like to eat somewhere in the Boardwalk area. I'm considering choosing one of these for dinner:

Flying Fish - Never heard much about it and it's 2 credits.

Big River Grill - Gets mixed reviews.

Yachtsman's - Again, I've never read much about it and it's 2 credits.

Thanks for any suggestions you can offer!:flower3:

Okay, let's see........

Via Napoli ~ We were not impressed. Even DH who will eat anything. :rotfl: Pizza was just okay. Terribly overpriced. Not even sure what DH had but it looked nasty!! But we seem to be in the minority on this one, most people like it.

T-Rex ~ Very good! Going back for a second time NEXT WEEK!! I had the appetizer plate as my meal (and I probably will again) and it is excellent! :thumbsup2 It comes with bruschetta, chips & queso, quesadillas, and onion rings! DH had some kind of shrimp pasta and really liked it. The kids loved the mini corn-dogs, and we got the donut holes with chocolate & caramel sauces for dessert. :cloud9:

Kona ~ Well I think you know my feelings on this one. :lovestruc :lovestruc:lovestruc

Tusker House ~ We did breakfast there once. The food was average. Not as good as Crystal Palace. The characters were great and it was a fun time!

Big River Grille ~ I highly recommend this one! :thumbsup2 But remember - you can't make an ADR there. They have a lot of different items on their menu and it is a nice change since it is not Disney owned.

And I will tell you about Yachtsman when we get back!! :cool1:

Hope that helps! :)

We've done Liberty Tree for dinner and really liked it. We had the turkey, ham and beef platter with mashed potato and vegetables with apple cobbler and vanilla ice cream for dessert. I'm not a big fan of anything apple .. but this was yummy !

T-Rex is one of our favorites .. the food is comparable to Rainforest, but the atmosphere is excellent !

Loving the TR so far! Your daughter is adorable!!

I totally understand forcing your child to try something! ITA that we all know our own kids and what works for them! :goodvibes

Bad mommy award goes to the woman in the above photo who has her very young child (quite obviously NOT an age of being potty trained) in the Mickey pool. :furious: Some people really think they are above the rules and they are the ones who makes others suffer when the pool closes so it can be cleaned. Now that is not cool!

Now, onto Part 3.....

It's been quite some time since we've eaten at Liberty Tree Tavern. The last time we did, we had dinner there and the characters were there. The food was good but, to us, the characters made the meal.

We are giving Via Napoli a try for our upcoming trip in May. I have heard both good things and bad things about it so I'm a little nervous about it.

T-Rex: We love it! We have eaten there once each trip since it has been open. The appetizer plate as an entree is delish!

You know, we have talked about Disney food so much that I already knew what you were going to say about most of these! :rotfl: I knew you weren't pleased with VN, but I have read so many different opinions about that place. Some think it's the best pizza they've ever had and some think it was bad, like you guys. I really think a lot of Disney restaurants are make it or break it depending on what you order. It seems like there aren't many places that you can order just about anything and it's good. I think you have to know what's good and stick to that. I'm thinking that might be the deal with VN. I'm just hoping someone can tell me what that really good dish is there.

And yes, I knew you would approve of Kona! :thumbsup2 We had a ressie there on the last trip but didn't make it. I'm determined to get there this time. I think I'm going with the Tonga Toast and I hope to talk DH into the Mac. Pancakes so I can try them too! ;) I have a feeling he will want the Big Kahuna though... just b/c of the name! You know how men always think bigger is better.

And T-Rex and BRG made it to the list just because of you! You have raved so much about them that I thought they needed consideration. The appetizer meal does sound pretty good. And i think you said you like the nachos at BRG, right? I wonder if they are on the DP??? I need to check on that.

I figured TH would be your typical Disney breakfast buffet, but I wanted to do at least one character meal and that's one of the few (if not the only) one that we haven't done yet. I think the characters are cute in the safari outfits too. :cutie:

I'm going to ask for a favor... how about you PM me when you get back and go ahead and tell me how Yachtsman's was. :) I don't want to have to wait until you get to it in the TR. :) DH loves a good steak meal, so I think he would love it, but it is 2 credits and looks a little on the formal side. Take note of how everyone is dressed for me too if you think of it. We had a 'formal' meal on this last trip and well, it didn't work out so well. :rolleyes1 I'll be getting to that soon. So I'm not sure if I want to go that route or not. I find it hard to be 'formal' at Disney. :rolleyes1

Thanks for all your help! I always know I can count on you when it comes to Disney food! ::yes::

I think both meals at LTT sound very good. I'm going to have a hard time choosing. I love the menu for the dinner though. Thanksgiving dinner is one of my favorites of the whole year!

I think T-Rex looks neat too! We've eaten at RFC and thought the food was just ok. That's what has me hesitant about T-Rex. Seems like people enjoy the food better there than at RFC though so we'll see.

Thanks for your input!

Thank you! I'm glad you are enjoying it!

I think even DD was glad that I made her ride the AD. She really wants to cruise again and talks about the AD a lot, so I know I did the right thing. I just felt really guilty at the moment!

I never noticed that woman in the pool with the baby. I didn't know they weren't allowed in the pool either. I've don't even want to think about them having to clear the pool! :scared1: YUCK! I'm sure it happens a lot though.

I know. I hate they got rid of the characters at LTT. I would love to see Minnie in her colonial dress. :worried:

I feel the same about VN. It seems like everyone either loves it or hates it. I like to try things for myself though. If I hadn't gone against advice with La Hacienda, we never would've know how much we liked it there. I'm still not sure about VN though. :rotfl: Maybe I'll wait until I hear back from you! ;)

Another T-Rex fan! :woohoo: Maybe T-Rex will be better than I think. We might have to try it! I'm assuming you ordered the same thing Shelly was talking about.

WAIT???? Did I MISS something?? When is your next trip??:confused3

No, you haven't missed anything. I don't even have a trip booked yet! :rotfl: I am going to go ahead and make some ADRs though for early November just incase we do decide to go. We just can't make up our minds about what we want to do. We all want to go back, but DH and DD want a pool. We can't afford both, so we have some decisions to make and that seems to take us forever! :headache: As of today, no one is willing to give up Disney. By tomorrow, who knows! :rolleyes1

Yeah, I was expecting the pizza at VN to be really good and it was just very plain and not good at all. :confused3 Even the kids didn't like it and they always like pizza!

I'm pretty sure the Big Kahuna comes with macadamia pancakes so you should be all set if your DH orders that and you get the Tonga Toast. ::yes::

BRG is on the DDP! I'm not sure if T-Rex is or not. I guess I don't pay much attention since we don't get the DDP anymore. Yep, I have gotten the beef nacho appetizer at BRG two times and it is huge and very good!

Actually Lisa (mickeystoontown) is the one who got me to try T-Rex and the appetizer as my meal!! She was right, it is great! :thumbsup2

I sure will PM you when we get back and let you know about the Yachtsman. That will probably be the night we dress a little nicer for dinner! I sure hope it's good. As for the 2 DDP credits, when we did the DDP I could never justify using 2 credits for any meals, but I'll try to let you know if I think it will be 2 TS credit worthy for you!!

Maybe we should just get a slice of pizza at VN from the to go window (if they still have that... I know they were trying it out, but don't know if they kept it.) That way, if it isn't good to us, we won't be out much. That still leaves me with no idea what to order at Tutto Italia though. :confused3

That is great about the Big Kahuna! :thumbsup2 I didn't recall reading that but I have read so many menus and reviews that it is all starting to run together!

Awesome about BRG being on the DP too. I'm going to check on T-Rex and see about that one.

Thanks for giving me a sneak preview on Yachtsman's. I agree that I don't like using 2 credits on the DP. If we really want to do a 2 credit meal, I usually pay OOP and we come out better. I still have to give it some serious thought though. I appreciate you giving me the scoop!

Oops! I forgot one! We're also thinking about Boatwright's at POR. Since we might be staying there, it would be very convenient, but I don't know a single thing about the place. Maybe some of you who have stayed at POR have eaten there and can help me out on this one???

ok Rink!!! I vote for disney but then I'm not such a pool fan!!
Nov does seem the ideal time to go!! Can't wait to hear the
final decision...when it happens!!

I can only comment on two of the places you have listed.

Via Napoli loved the pizza. I had pepperoni, DH the mushroom :). We both had the Arancini for apps, I loved it, DH not so much. Dessert DH got Tiramisu which he said was good. I had a Frizzante which was delishious and refreshing.

BRG was a disappointment we both had the chicken quesadilla as our apps and it was huge and very good, one could serve 2 or 3 people easy. The cheesecake we had for dessert was great!

The Ribeye steaks we had were the worse steaks of our entire trip, very chewy, I left half of mine.

I want to try Tutto Italian also, they were closed for remodel when we were there.

Love the Wonderland Teaparty. When we went it had lucnh sandwiches with it, but no photopass. It was probably wise they took the sandwiches away because I think most kids just at the cupcakes...but I wish they would've lowered the price then.

We did LTT on a Halloween party night (early ressie-would never give up party time.:rolleyes1) back in 2006. Still had the characters then. I thought the food was really good. It was the Thanksgiving dinner feast. But I have to agree that the characters (dressed in party themed/colonial themed costume) really made the meal fun. Everything was good. The atmosphere was great!
We've also done Big River Grille. Thought it was good food. DS loved it because he could finally get an awesome Root Beer! We ate outdoors (to avoid the wait for a table). Weather was beautiful and then we had the "streetmosphere" of the Boardwalk to enjoy-rolling piano player, magician. I don't think you could go wrong there. Many menu options. DS had a burger, my niece had one of the salads (said was really good), DD I think had a grilled cheese, I had one of the burgers and my niece's husband had one of their big burgers with bacon. All food was good.

The only one of those we have eaten at is Tusker House. We did a brunch, that worked out perfectly. I do not like rushing to early morning ADRs. So we rope dropped at AK, rode a few rides amd grabbed Safari FPs while waiting to get into TH. The food was yummy and characters were great! Then after we were done, the safari is right there and we rode that. Recommend for sure Rinky! :thumbsup2

I am following you over from Lisa's cruise PTR. We are considering going on a cruise next year and I need to gather as much information as possible. Going back to start your report.

We love going in November. That's the only time we have been and the weather/crowds have always been great. I'd be scared to try going any other time.

Today they are voting for the pool. Who knows how this is going to pan out.

Gosh, your opinions are almost the exact opposite of Shelly's. That's what makes it so hard to decide. Everyone seems to have very different opinions of restaurants.

I think Tutto Italia looks nice and the menu sounds good. Like you, I love anything Italian! popcorn::

Love the Wonderland Teaparty. When we went it had lucnh sandwiches with it, but no photopass. It was probably wise they took the sandwiches away because I think most kids just at the cupcakes...but I wish they would've lowered the price then.

The tea party is a great thing for little girls. I am so glad I broke down and let her go.

I didn't know that they had gotten rid of the sandwich when i booked it. I told DD she would get one too, but she said she didn't. I was wondering what was up with that. I am so glad they added the PP though! I agree they should reduce the price since they got rid of the real food. The price increase was pretty big too. When I first looked into it, it was only $25!

I really hate they got rid of the characters at LTT. I heard it was b/c there wasn't enough room in there. :confused3

Your description of BRG makes me want to go there right now! That sounds wonderful! I can just imagine what it was like with all the lights and entertainment. Sounds fantastic! Thanks for your advice!

We are definitely booking TH for breakfast. I think it's the only character meal we haven't done. And I think your plan sounds exactly like what we want to do. I don't like rushing to early ADRs either so we would do it just like you did. :thumbsup2

I am following you over from Lisa's cruise PTR. We are considering going on a cruise next year and I need to gather as much information as possible. Going back to start your report.

WELCOME!! So glad you are joining in! You are smart for reading up on the cruise before taking the plunge. I read lots of TRs about DCL before going and I still felt confused and lost at times. There's so much to learn! But you have plenty of time to figure it all out and I'll be glad to help you with anything that I can. I might not have all the answers, but I am certain someone here will!

(Jenseib and Mndisneygirl also sailed about a year ago and have done TRs.)

Okay, I'll try to remember which ones on your list I've eaten at.

Tutto Italia - we ate there in December 09 and I really liked it! I think I had a penne dish that was light and fresh - it's a standard Italian dish and the name is escaping me! We all liked it. They served olives and bread with dipping oil too.

Tusker House - we've had breakfast there twice. Very good -lots of options and that fabulous Jungle Juice!! Good coffee too!

Narcoosees gets great reviews and I have not eaten there, but would love to! I think they recently reviewed it on the podcast too.

Yachtsman and Kona are on my short list. I've only had lunch at Kona and that was okay. Some good parts, (the wings) and some just okay (my chicken).

We enjoyed the Thanksgiving dinner at Liberty Tree. We actually ate there the day before Thanksgiving right before they did away with characters. I'm really glad we got to see them in their colonial costumes.

We're making our first visit to Via Napoli this summer.

I'm feeling the same way as you about T-Rex. I thought about taking Brooklynn there on one of our non-park days, but then again, we may just browse the gift shop - she likes to look at the Build-a-Dino stuff - and then go eat somewhere else.

Jill and John have eaten at Boatwright's. I think she said they liked it just fine.

You can't go wrong at Kona! I have had Tonga toast and macadamia pancakes. I loved them both. Trent got steak and eggs there once, and the steak was every bit as luscious at it is at dinner.

Tusker House is fun for getting the characters in their safari gear. Be sure to get some of the ham. It's so good! I am in the minority on the juice. I mostly drink water, so it tasted syrupy sweet to me. Most people love it, though, so I know it is good.

I haven't tried the others. I bet Yachtsman is good, although costly. I'm always in for trying new places.
