Now tell me........this will be the first time that we're going to Orlando in July, the more I read about the weather down there, (we're from NY) the more its making me think twice about going. Will we be that miserable with the heat on those long lines?????

Do you think we should bring any type of jackets for night time???

Jackets for nite time - If you are a person that gets chilled in air-conditioning at nite, a small sweater or lite sweatshirt is okay.

You can tell you are from the North-WI here. The nites in July stay in the 80's, something that happens vary rarely in the north, maybe that's why it makes the news, it happens so rarely.

Just take your time in July and the secret is to stay hydrated.

It will be hot and humid and crowded, yes. Temps will be in the 80s and 90s, coupled with humidity in the 85% range, which will make it feel ten degrees hotter. Lines will be long and tempers will be short.

That said, many people love going in July and would never come any other time. You just have to be ready for it. Have a nice, casual plan that doesn't require you to rush all over the place. Know your limits and go back to the hotel when you're tired. This is not the time to try and talk a spouse or a child into "just one more ride." When you're done, you're done. There's nothing worse than having a child who is overtired and hot when you're 20 minutes from the exit because you wanted to see how long the line was for Space Moutain, "just in case." It'll be long. Just go with that. :p

Know which rides you really want to go on and which ones you can skip. Don't ever stand in a 60-min line for a "maybe" during a July afternoon. You'll always regret it. Drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen, limit soda and caffeine. Go inside as often as you can -- shops, shows, restaurants.

Bring a light sweater for those evenings when it gets a little cooler due to rain, but you won't need a jacket except for inside some of the theaters where the A/C is cranked up!

Yes, it's hot. But then again, I wouldn't think weather in the 80s to 90 is not uncommon in July even in NY. No, I really don't think you would need a jacket or anything at night. During the day, just take breaks, take it slow, and plenty of water and oh yes- use Fast Pass as much as possible. Most of the waiting in line is either indoors, under "canopies", in the shade, etc. Take it slow and have fun, it's not like being in Phoenix where it's 115 or anything.

We always do summer (July included). Love, love, love it. It's hot as you know where, and extremely humid. You walk out the hotel room door and you're sweating instantly. Yep. That hot. It rains like mad everyday. The crowds are heavy (but with Fastpass, life is good).

After all that brutal honesty - there's no better time to go. The hours are longer, and the place reeks with festivity (because of all those people everywhere).

You will survive, and probably be glad you went.:sunny:

I cannot stress it enough!!! Drink PLENTY of WATER!!! the best thing to do is freeze bottles of water before you get to the parks and drink them throughout the day. Wear light clothing. Nothing sleeveless if possible. A light cotton t-shirt and shorts with sneakers is best. I am a floridian and weather can be torture to someone from the north. The Humidity makes you feel as if you can't breathe!!!!!! But you will still have a great time!!!!

I can't overstate how important it is in summer to get to the parks early and I mean before opening even on EMH (if you're staying on property). You can get SO much done before the heat and the crowds overtake you. You can leave the park when things get really hot and busy and take a break or go swimming at your resort pool, then head back to the parks for a special dinner or the night parades/events. With luck you'll be taking a cool break in your room when the afternoon showers arrive.

Wear light colored clothing, take extra shoes or wear sandals like Teva or Nike ACG Straprunners so you don't walk about with wet feet.

Bucket style hats and visors help too.

Hi,
We're from Kingston Ontario...just a little North of you. We went in August and it was hot but not any hotter or more humid than a very hot summer day here. The difference was that it didn't cool down at night like it does here. Drink pleny of water and all the indoor rides are nice and cool. The great advantage is the days are nice and long so relax and enjoy

We are from NE Ohio and some times it is hotter and more humid here than in Fla. It isnt anything you arent already used to in the summer.( My sister lived in NY for a while and I know you guys get hot and humid summers too.)

Cool water and take a few rest breaks in the shade and you will be fine. ::yes:: ::MickeyMo :wave2:

It is hot, but you get used to it very quickly. Your return to the cold is actually a lot worse than arriving in heat

You yankees have a lot more problem with the heat than us locals. (No offense to you yankees :teeth: )

We went in August about 5 years ago and I will NEVER go back during that time again!

I guess it depends on how well each individual person does in the heat. My husband said he was uncomfortable in the heat but was o.k. I on the otherhand was MISERABLE! I actually walked around the parks with the hotel wash cloths stuck in my armpits to soak up the sweat. We had to leave the parks almost every day just to take a break from the heat, and I am usually at the gate at opening, don't leave untill they kick me out, and then I head over to the Market Place until that closes so the heat really did a number on what we had planned. I bought a little hand held fan but in such heat it made no difference. I got sick of feeling so sweaty and sticky that I carried soap and deoderant in my backpack and every once in awhile I washed myself off in the bathrooms just to cool down and so I would feel less "stinky" LOL  I can't even begin to express how miserable I was.

I will tell you what I honestly think, and that is if you don't like the heat don't go during that time. If you can handle it then have a blast!!!

I went last July and won't do it again... But that just me, and I can't handle heat well. I live in Texas, too! LOL! Summers are hard on me, but I also have some health issues. I just stay inside alot during the summer. I also hate lines, and would rather go on off-season to avoid heat and lines. For some people, that's simply not an option, so I would not skip Disney because of it =)

I don't think the heat will be anymore than you really are already used to or that you've already experienced. Drink lots and lots of water, and note the good airconditioned places =) Last July, I went AC to AC =) LOL. I know where they ALL are.

My mom always packs a damp washcloth in a ziplock and wipes her face down when she gets overheated, you might consider that if you get overheated easily. =)

I went in July 2002 and wasn't as miserable as I thought I would be!!!:p We decided to spend my birthday at WDW so well I HAD to go then!!! LOL!

The heat didn't bother me too much but we did alot of stuff early or late. The only place the crowds really got on my nerves was MK so we just hopped on over to Epcot. We got to do an E night at MK which was GREAT!

Be sure to take breaks and drink plenty of water!

C'mon! We all know that Florida's not really the south!!!!!:jester: :duck:

(That was said completely tongue in cheek!!!!)

I would bring at leasta heavy sweatshirt & long pants. We went in Feb and were surprised that on a few days it was really cold. I had a sweatshirt, but one day it got down to 40. Brrrrrr.

Now that likely won't happen in July but the weather is always unpredictable, esp. at night. Definately take clothes you can layer. And also ,most of the indoor things have the AC cranked. You might want a sweater or light jacket.

Sheri, who has no tolerance for cold :)

I am in the minority as we won't be planning any trips for the summer for quite a while. I didn't mind the heat as much as the rain, hours of non-ending downpours. I particularly hated that there was no real warning. No kidding, it would be sunny and then 30 seconds later you would be hit hard with a downpour. The heat was bad, don't get me wrong but it is pretty hot and humid here in Md so that part I was accustomed to. However, having my tennies stay squishy and wet all week was NOT my thing.

Do you have children in school and summers are your only real option? That is why we went in June. Next trip is Christmas week also because of school issue. I'd rather be cold and dry than hot and soaked to the bone.

Good luck.

There is no need for any sweatshirts or long pants for the night time. It does not go below 80 degrees. The only time I get chilly in FL is INSIDE due to the AC. I used to pack long pants and a sweatshirt for our August trips, but then realized I had to stop thinking like a New Englander. Yes, there are parts of the country where the weather doesn't fluctuate 30 degrees every day!;)

Wimps:sunny:

Here's a reply from someone in the Empire State. I've gone the last two years, once in July, once in August, and while it was real hot, it is nothing that a New Yorker can't handle. In fact, the week we were down there in August, it was hotter up North. Last year we were there during the blackout, which turned out to be quite the extra gift.

To break it down, it's probably only three to five degrees warmer down there than up here. Take it slow and you'll be fine.
