Day One - The Calm before the Storm!
....the flight was fairly uneventful, meaning, basically that we all arrived on one piece (all working body parts intact) and we actually arrived ahead of schedule! The funny thing about deboarding a plane in Orlando in the middle of the summer into an air-conditioned gate into an air-conditioned terminal onto an air-conditioned monorail:
[...notice already the drastic change in facial expression?]
...into the air-conditioned main terminal and to the air-conditioned baggage carousel:
...that you don't really know exactly how dang-blasted HOT it is until you are OUTSIDE!!!
QUICK, someone give me a giant bucket of ice - STAT!
...well, we passed the WDW ME buses and waited on another queue line (this was a warm-up of what was to come) to check in to get our rented car....within 10 minutes, we were crossing the street and looking for our rented Nissan on the 2nd level...I'm not used to driving a foreign car, so some of the buttons and other doodads, like the KEYS, were exactly THAT - foreign! Of course, everyone had to laugh at my inexperience with this car, but we were soon on our way, exiting MCO and heading for our destination - Mystic Dunes....
...boy, I can never count on anyone to be my co-pilot, because they are just BAD with directions. The turn we made wasn't supposed to be a turn at all - we wound up driving right into the heart of Celebration (well, at least I can cross THAT off my 'To Do' checklist)...just hope that the Mickey police didn't catch me 'making a ewe-ey' in the middle of Celebration Avenue...
...
....well, we wound up getting back onto Toll Road 417 (apparently we were EAST of Route 4 and we had to get onto 192 AFTER crossing Route 4!) and but missed the 530/192 Irlo Bronson Hwy exit and drove straight onto Route 4 South. We really lost our bearings, so we decided to exit at the very next right, which put us onto ANOTHER toll road (Fla 429) but jumped off that in a big hurry. Now, here we were stuck in the middle of nowhere, and boy do I mean NOWHERE! So, driving along Sinclair Road took us to a tee, and, again NO SIGNS, so we made a left turn. Turns out we put ourselves onto Old Sand Lake Road, which is where we WANTED to go, missing 192 completely! This took us to:
MYSTIC DUNES!!
....we pulled up to the sentry and were greeted by a pleasant security guard who guided us as to our final destination:
...up ahead, just a bit further:
...so close and yet so far....
...wait for it...
....HOME AT LAST (well, for the next week anyway!)!!!
