Sun 15th Feb – Day 2
Today was the day we were springing the big surprise on Charys. She thought we were going home today but little did she know what was ahead.
Because we had such a busy day yesterday we had decided not to get up early for EMH so we had a slightly longer sleep, got up packed the case into the car (keeping Charys away from the boot again so she didn’t notice the larger suitcase hiding there).
We set off to drive as though going to park in New York as normal but of course DH was in the wrong lane so I commented to him about it – still no comment from Charys. We drove into the entrance to DLH and suddenly she said “Is that DLH?” We said yes so she started saying “whats going on?”
We then broke the news to her that we weren’t going home but were staying there tonight.
She screamed and screamed. We then added that in fact we were staying there for a few nights and that there was a large suitcase in the boot of the car and that it had been booked for months and everyone else knew but her.(Surprise number 5). She was so excited.
We parked the car and went to book in and were surprised to be told that our room was ready and we could have it now. We had expected to just book in and head straight to the park but of course we had to go and explore it first. On route to our room we bumped into Scrooge MCDuck in the lounge area and Mickey walking along the corridor.
We were in room 3349 in West Wing. The first thing we did was run to the window to see what we could see and found the room looked out onto the little garden at the back and the swimming pool. We could also see the top of BTM and PM. We went round the room exploring all the little details we’d heard about.
Charys was so excited and just kept saying “I cant believe Im staying in DLH”.
We decided to let her get changed into her Cinderella dress now instead of waiting til we got into the park.
We went out into the park via the lounge area and who should be there but Minnie who made a fuss of Charys in her Princess dress and curtsied to her and Goofy grabbed her for a dance.
We made our way into the park and DH decided he wanted to go to City Hall to check our meal reservations – at least that’s what he said he was doing. I now know he had an ulterior motive and wanted me out of the way!!!!!!! (You’ll have to read the next part to learn more about this!!!!!) Charys and I followed the character express up Mainstreet and made our way to Small World.
When we had got off it we had a look round the shops in Fantasyland where we bought Charys a tiara to go with her outfit.
We then made our way to Auberge ready for our 12.00 booking. We wanted to be there early as we heard there could be quite a queue to get in because of people having their photo taken with Cinderella in the entrance. We hung round outside for a while then at about 11.50 we saw someone else go in so decided we would as well. The lady on the desk wouldn’t take our reservation ticket as she said it didn’t open til 12.00 but waved us to one side to stand (in the area where the photos are taken) – there was already the family there who had come in before us and another family. Loads of other people started coming in and being made to wait as well and a nice queue was forming through the door. At 12.00 another CM came out (a supervisor?) who obviously wasn’t happy as we were all waiting and the CM who had let us in was just saying sorry to her and shrugging her shoulders. We were then told we couldn’t stand there as we had to keep that space clear for the photos and told to join the queue. I’m sorry but there was no way we were going outside to the back of the queue and neither were the others who had been waiting either. We were waiting where we were told to and if we’d been told to go back outside and wait earlier we would have done. It was quite chaotic.
Anyhow we got a photo with Cinders and were led to our table – in the back room in an alcove. I looked up and realised Charys was being escorted to her table by one of the mice (Suzy) who then sat down next to her and motioned to the waitress for a menu for herself as well.
I will write a fuller report of the food on the restaurant thread but we had a wonderful meal. The food was gorgeous and Charys met her favourite Princess – Belle with Prince and also Ariel and Prince as well as the other mouse (Perla) .
Suzy also returned and danced with her. We were a bit confused about the meal as we told the waiter we had half board premium vouchers and he said we could no longer get wine included with the vouchers but it was Ok for today. We checked and double checked that we could have the wine and he said yes for today we could. We also completely forgot to ask for our free Kir with our APs.
After a wonderful meal we decided to go on some gentle rides. We did Snow White and Pays de Conte de Fees but Casey and POC were both very busy so we went to have a wander round and explore Adventure Isle and collect some FPs for BTM later and have a look in some shops along mainstreet.
We then headed back to the hotel to chill out, make a cup of tea and watch the characters 4.00 dance.
We collected our luggage from the car and unpacked. Then wandered down to the lobby ready for the dancing.
It was good fun watching them but busier than I’d expected.
After chilling for a while longer we headed back into the park in time for OUADP. We sat outside Mainstreet Station and once again really enjoyed it.
We started to walk towards Liberty Arcade and heard someone saying A Small World – I didn’t click at first as it’s the type of words you hear all the time in DLP and assumed it was someone suggesting they go there. I then heard it again and looked up and realised it was HildasMuriel and her daughter talking to me – Oh Yes Im A Small World aren’t I. I hadn’t recognised her at first as she’d confused us by not wearing her pink boots. Anyhow it was lovely to meet them and when they asked if we were on our way home we could let them know that the secret was out.
We headed towards Frontierland and rode BTM using out DLH fastpass (I liked these) then went for a drink in Fuente del Oro while waiting for the time slot on the BTM FPs. As we’d used the Ebay ones as well we had 2 turns each again. Have I told you how much I love this ride.
Phantom Manor was now open despite the fact it said yesterday it was closed until Tuesday so we decided to ride it and then went across to Adventureland to ride POC – another favourite and one we enjoy riding at the end of the day. We managed to stay on for a 2nd ride and got the boat to ourselves the 2nd time.
We then stopped off at Caseys for something to eat (Chicken Nuggets for myself and DH and Cheese Hotdog for Charys) before going out of the park. On the way out we met Peter Pan and Wendy outside City Hall. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen characters here before when the park is closing and there was hardly anyone else around them.
We got back to the hotel, took our coats and bag back to the room and wandered back down to the Fantasia bar – it was really busy and there were no seats but we eventually found one in the back room. However it was ages before anyone came to serve us – everyone else in that room had gone by that time and we were the only ones left. The waiter came in and said that he didn’t know we were there and had come to close the section. We ordered cocktails – there seemed to be less choice now than there used to be – and Charys ordered a children’s cocktail which came in a souvenir Captain Hook cup with a light up Captain Hook attached to it. They didn’t charge us for Charys’ because they had kept us waiting – I didn’t mind waiting as I had the net book so was happily DISing away while waiting but didn’t argue about it.
DH and Charys went back to the room while I moved into the lounge area and carried on DISing for a while (there is only Wifi in public places – not in the rooms) then eventually I crawled into bed as well.
Glad all the surprises were over …… or were they?????
