This was originally part of another thread...but after reading what I wrote I realized this was off topic so I posted this as a seperate post. I really believe that we as a Community (not just here..but on every WDW forum, etc) have been presented with a Choice...as to which road we want to travel.

Named witheld so not to pick on anyone said:
I haven't been paying much attention to the Disney world of late ... but haven't heard one reputable person tell me this is happening.

If so, it's only happening because it is much cheaper to do so.

Whatever you may think of the second version, don't have any delusions that the first was more popular because it wasn't ... unless you go back to say the 70s or early 80s.

Funny, those who visit Disneyland (including my family) will tell you that the Tiki Room is quite popular there.. special events, merchandise, etc....usually ever show is filled.... walkouts are uncommon...

As for why it could be happening??? The historical postings on the many forums I visit would support your position.... BUT at the same time TDO DOES have a choice and if they choose to bring the Tiki Room to its former glory then why not look at this as a positive step....and applaud their decision rather than find fault.

HERE IS A THOUGHT: No matter what.... TDO (if the rumors are true) are giving our community something that a majority of us have wanted forever it seems. DO YOU WANT MORE GOOD TDO MOVES? Then SUPPORT The Tiki Room... PROMOTE the Tiki Room.... Show TDO that THIS is the right way to think in the future... or else youll have to accept the fact that WE, AS A COMMUNITY are the problem NOT TDO!!!!

THAT is the BEST way to send a message to TDO.......Be sure to send the one you TRULY want them to see.... If I were them, Id watch carefully how the community of WDW fans act mid to long term with the Tiki Room.

Want something done with SGE? JII? Or whateve else? And you let the Tiki Room fail??? Guess what??? Id ignore you and your concerns in the future....

Seriously..... everyone said a long while back that TDO would never bring back the original Tiki Room....even if the reason was the Fire that this possibility sprung into possible momentum and now we are perhaps just a stone throw away from seeing perhaps just that..... WAKE UP JOSE? No Wake Up to All Of Us... this is perhaps an opportunity for us all to either be taken more seriously by TDO or more totally ignored.

Dont assume others will pick up your slack.... if this happens.. write to them...talk to CMs.... attend the show every day you enter the MK..... Support this and you might see better times ahead.

Am I full of Cow Manure saying all this???? Perhaps.... But if by some chance there is some reality in what I write, would it not be better for all of you to TRY???

As my football Coach back in the 80s had on the wall of the weight room "Hard work and Determination Guaruntee Nothing, but a Lack of it Does." It applies here.... Easy to complain, but much harder to support a good decision by our actions.

As for I... I LOVE the Enchanted Tiki Room... a lot of you may know me over the years posting here and there about the Tiki Room..... (Give Jose back his Show! Put it back "Under Walt's Management"...etc)... well now I will SUPPORT the Tiki Room if it is returned to the way I first remember it as a five year old in the fall of 71/summer of 72.... Buying the merchandise....attending a show every day I enter the MK.... Cheerlead the show online, offline, etc....

Please, if you love Disney as I suspect most of you do, Support Jose and his Flock....not just for 2010, but for all the years beyond it too.... The Disneylanders' fought the UNM refurb there and prevailed.....and their support for their Tiki Room has been as solid as Titanium ever since.....and many people on the forums have posted how they believe things are better at DLR than at WDW.... Perhaps their example is a lesson for all of us.

It is my sincere HOPE that we , as a WDW Community are courageous enough to try....

You make excellent points - and I remember the first time that I visited the Magic Kingdom. My (then) wife insisted that as long as we were in Florida (on our honeymoon) that we should check out this Disney World thing and see what it was all about. So, being the nice guy, I said "sure, we can fit in a half day." I was amazed, and one of the things that touched me as magical that half day was the Tiki Room (the other was 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, RIP). As a result of that half day we returned a few years later for 3 or 4 days, staying at the Contemporary Resort (and again visiting the Tiki Room).

We'll be back in December, and if the Tiki Room is re-opened by then, we'll be taking it in. (Different wife, but again staying at the CR, for 8 nights)

Well, those that read these boards frequently might notice that I am a HUGE proponent of the original show, and loath the UNM makeover with the exception that I would agree if I had a choice between an UNM tiki-room and NO tiki-room, I'll take the former.

But, maybe that's why I'll never understand the argument that "the old show wasn't popular so they should keep the new show", because - the new show isn't popular either. I don't think I've sat through it once when it's been 1/2 full, even in the middle of the day. Bringing back the original show couldn't be worse than that - you market as "Walt Disney's Original Tropical Serenade" and I'm sure the crowds would initial surge...and even so would be no worse than current.

I am not anti-change in any way, but there are so few "original" attractions, I feel like there should be a couple that remain in tact. I in fact couldn't give a rat's a** about Carousel of Progress, but because it's an original, I think they should keep it. The same with the Tiki Birds - it should be an untouchable except for technology upgrades. The same goes for Hall Of Presidents. Those are the only ones I can think of.

Personally, I think the whole discussion is useless, because I do NOT believe that the Tiki Birds are coming back in their original form.

But, Disney, in caser you are reading this: If they do, I've already told my wife we are making a special trip for it.

The Tiki room can be kind of corny whether it is the original show or the Under New Management show. That being said I am opposed to removing attractions just because they are not a thrill ride. I think there are many who come in and expect the latest in spectacular shows and either leave or at least not appreciate the show.

There is a place in Disney to have calm quaint shows that show the history of animatronics and Walts dreams. Tiki Room is a place to go and listen to songs performed by animatronic birds and tiki idols. There are plenty of people who enjoy the show. It is a big room with a lot of benches run by one or to CMs. Young kids can enjoy the show. Older people can enjoy the show. People who remember WDW as a kid are now sharing the experience with their kids.

So it should come back. It would be best to return as the original show. But it should not be on the chopping block because it is not a ToT ride. There should be something for everyone. If they start cutting attractions like Tiki then the Country Bears would have to go and then the Presidents of the United States.
:cheer2: Keep Tiki :cheer2:

WDW is celebrating 40 years on October 1st. What a better way than to bring back a classic!

Read the threads about this on WDWMagic and DK...... then perhaps youll be having another conversation with your DW!

Understand Bob - the reason I won't beleive it until it happens is that I would be totally bummed if I thought it was and it didn't. I can be encourage, but I refuse to believe. Besides, if they brought the Tiki Room back, would that mean there's hope for the Adventurer's Club? (Far less likely I know.)

I had a conversation with DD7 about the possibility last night. She was upset that they were going to take out Iago and Zazu...but said she would like the Tiki Goddess to be removed. She said "I don't like change!" :lmao:

I'm with your DD on the Tiki Goddess and they better still drop those feathers:snooty:

EACH AND EVERY TIME -- in the years to come -- that I step foot in the Magic Kingdom, I will joyously walk into the restored, original Tiki Room, if they would be so wonderful as to bring it back. EACH AND EVERY TIME! It would also be icing on the cake if they moved or built a dole whip stand adjacent to the attraction, just like at Disneyland. Heck, why not ask...can't hurt!

I wonder...thinking about the new vs. old popularity wise.

When were the magic carpets added to Adventureland vs. when "Under New Management" was added?

I'm thinking that maybe since the magic carpets take up so much space, people just walk by the tiki room (old OR new) and not even notice it's there anymore...before the magic carpets it was much easier to see.
