Day Ten 29th August 2007

Oh dear, another day on the beach…I used up all my waffle yesterday, so what am I to do now?

I’m sat here looking at a set notes more sparse than Jade Goody’s work schedule.

How will we fill today…I have no idea, so apologies if this thing isn’t as long as you might have expected (not the first time those words have left my mouth), but we’ll see what we can do. If we both try really hard, I’m sure we can make the best of a bad job…(not the first time…ah I already said that). :rolleyes1

Onward!

Yesterday’s doing nothing seemed to have really taken it out of us, and I don’t wake up until 9ish today. The last time I had a lie in, Bobby Charlton had hair, so this is a welcome bit of R&R for me.

We had breakfast in the room, and although my notes do not show who made it today, I think we all know really. No-one seems to be in any rush to get out of the room today, and as I have no theme park to lure me, I am not herding cats as I normally do, marshalling females into bathrooms and clothes.

So it isn’t until 10.30 that we are all ready and off down to the pool/beach.

The girls still want to go in the pool rather than the sea, so we leave them to it again, and I gird my loins for a heavy session on the boogieboard.

I see the sea is nice and rough, (I will take back the word nice shortly), and I plough straight in.

See, it is the camera, not me…even Louise takes blurred photos.

and again…..we need a new camera….(watch this space)

I take a bit of a beating from the waves for a while, but after a bit I am good…damn good.

Having mastered yet another sport, I retire gracefully mid morning, and do something else that I am great at, which is lying down and doing nothing.

I do that for quite some time, to a very high standard. I even lie down and read at the same time, which is a skill not everyone has. I have good skills.

As dinner time approaches, we think the girls will have already eaten, although we had banned them from ordering any food until at least 12 o’clock!!!

At 1.15 I have a wander back to the room as we need to get the other battery for the camera and charge the one that just ran out..yes, Mike we do have a spare…I just…forgot to take it with us the other day alright!!!

I flick the telly on, and stumble across a premiership football match….alright it is only Man Utd and Tottenham, but a starving man cannot be picky. I make myself some toast, and settle down to watch it. Ten minutes later, totally bored with it, I wander back down to the beach.

Phew, isn’t today exciting folks!!

I see the girls have wandered down to the beach and kindly Louise has given them my sunbed whilst she continues to lie full length in the sun. Nice!

For some reason I take a random shot of the sea at this point

floridaaug07320.jpg

and another of a jet ski

floridaaug07321.jpg

I told you today might be a bit boring.

We pinch another sunbed, and the girls take that one over too….

floridaaug07322.jpg

they play their DS things, and I am fine to stand around without a bed, honestly.

floridaaug07323.jpg

Having nowhere to sit, and a family that frankly don’t care, I go back to my only friend, the sea….

floridaaug07324.jpg

I think I had just endured a particularly nasty wave there, which had put salty liquid into every orifice. A bit like a party at Michael Barrymore’s…..

I’ll get my coat!! :sad2:

Louise has the camera now for a bit…..

Look, some sand.

And some blurred sand

Continued....

Rebecca has fallen asleep on my sunbed…as she only managed around 13 hours sleep last night…poor lamb. Yes, you rest Rebecca whilst your Dad battles the cruel sea on a piece of polystyrene.

The sea has stepped it up a notch by now, and the waves are really big. I am picking up an injury per wave at this point, and I have grazes on my grazes.

I’ve been in the sea so long, my hands look like prunes and other parts of my body are retreating so far into my body cavity that if I yawn, people can see them.

I can take the punishment no more, and I drag my battered and bruised (yet tanned and strangely attractive) body back up the beach, where the rest of my family suddenly realise I haven’t been around for the last few hours.

The sun is getting lower in the sky by now, one of my favourite times to be on the beach, and Louise takes another award winning photo

floridaaug07330.jpg

I think she was trying to get the sunbed chap on this photo, but couldn’t work out how to zoom in….he is there somewhere wrestling with that large red thing….

Something she isn’t unfamiliar with, I really must apply more sun cream, even to those covered up bits!!

We leave the beach at 5pm, so I can finally sit down somewhere, and retire to the room for showers. It takes us nearly two hours to get ready, of which seven minutes are mine. We decide to eat off site tonight, and Louise has obtained a map from reception of local shops, restaurants and places of interest.

We ignore the recommendations of reception and head for somewhere I think was called Palm View. You turn left out of Vero, drive straight for a bit, till the first bridge, turn right and then immediate left…still with me?

It isn’t exactly the centre of the world, with a few closed shops and banks, but we do spot a couple of restaurants. Mostly sea food places, which doesn’t float our collective boats to be honest. We do spot an Italian, and rather than drive somewhere else and have to wait for some food for many more minutes we go in.

It is totally empty (not a good sign), oh and the camera is knackered.

floridaaug07331.jpg

This is the second to last picture it takes…I don’t know that at this point, as the LCD screen isn’t working, so I just take a snap to see what happens….

I am less than happy.

Inside the restaurant, the server explains the specials, most of which are “off” as they are moving in a couple of days…which inspires confidence I must say.

However we order….

Me – Pasta Fritta, Pasta with Shrimp and Chocolate Lava Cake (shared by all..although that was never the plan)
Louise – Caesar Salad, Breaded Chicken thing
Rebecca – As above
Emily – Half of my starter, Spag Bol.

All of the above is perfectly acceptable, but Romanos it ain’t, and it isn’t too cheap either, but as I’m still sulking about the camera I forget to write it down it seems.

We are back in the car, and back in Vero by 9.30ish. We call at the shop in reception to buy something I didn’t write down, and we all go to bed.

Lying in bed, with the camera, I see if I can get the equipment working again….I shake it, push it a bit, bend it a little, give it a slap….but still no joy. I think it must be all that sand and sea water today….

The camera’s still not working either, until all of a sudden, it takes one last picture, before dying once and for all.

floridaaug07333.jpg

I pronounce it dead, (the camera that is) and then I read my book for a bit, and doze off around 10.30.

Must try to do something more interesting tomorrow!!

Day Eleven is Here

Just when we thought we'd survived Big Brother and Hell's Kitchen and life could get back to normal and all those little jobs I've been putting off for weeks could get done....... I discover your trippies !!!!!!!!!!!

Have been reading your reports for what seems to be longer than a Flight to FL now but loving every minute of them.

Keep them coming !!

Another great day, I do hope you manage to sort out the camera, or buy another one;)

I await to see how you get on without a camera!!

Poor camera, at least it had a good life :rotfl2:

I hope you get a new one soon

Mandy :)

Fabulous knee shot, that last picture taken with your now retired camera. Clever of you to line up those chairs so that it looks like you're wearing clown shoes--befitting your very funny report. Thanks for the laughs.

Well you still manage to make doing nothing entertaining, Craig! Sorry to hear about the camera, hope you were able to get a new one.
