Day 3 - Wednesday 1st March

The time difference has us all wide-awake by 6am but the first voice I hear belongs to Spongebob Squarepants yelling something about Krabby Patties. Playing the typical Brit, I check the weather. Just to be sure I check it on few channels to see if everyone agrees. 76 and sunny again. Lovely!

In what becomes almost a ritual over our holiday we head to Ponderosa for breakfast. I wonder if we’re becoming lazy. We only go here as it’s across the road and it’s easy for the kids. My laziness is confirmed as we pass the car and I wonder if my DW would just drive us over there…

I must admit I do love the coffee there, but in the US I find everywhere does good coffee. DS takes to Fruit Loops. A multi-coloured version of Cheerios, which leave the milk a vile blue-red colour. DW and DD opt for Corn Flakes while I decide to eat the American way and pile on scrambled egg, sausages, some apple pastry pillows things and pancakes. Its energy food I convince myself. A few slices of Pineapple and melon after to get the balance. And so this continues for most of the Ponderosa mornings. Looking back the whole process reminds me of breakfast time in Prison shows and films I have seen over the years. All the con’s in line for bland food…

We head towards the I-4 still with a little caution from my DW who takes all the right exits I tell her. Driving nerves have eased off a little, which makes me more relaxed.

We arrive at EPCOT just after 9. The jet-lag has worked in our favour getting us to the park early. We head straight to Soarin’. This wasn’t here during our last trip, and I have head rave reviews. All was going well in the line until DS decided he didn’t want to go on, just as we were going in. He cried as we were taking our seats. I tried to calm him down, as I knew he would enjoy it. It was then a cast member came over to us and threw me and DS off. Okay, they didn’t throw us out, but I agreed we would let DW and DD ride it The CM told me to get a rider-switch fast pass so I could get back on after. As soon as we left, DS decided he wanted to go back on and cried again when he couldn’t…

DW was unimpressed DD had her eyes closed the whole time. I thought it was a pretty good ride, but over-rated.

The original plan to do Test Track next was scrapped, as both DD and DS needed a gentler ride as a learning curve. So we went hit Living with the Land. Which is just about the most boring ride I have ever been on. Our guide was a nice young girl, but had a voice, which could shatter glass.

We then picked up FP for Test Track and got bonus FP for Mission Space. Wow! This has never happened. Two big rides! Unfortunately, I did not enjoy M:S last time while it made DW feel sick for a while after. So I gave them to three girls I saw heading over to it.

Temps back at 76 and now clouds convinced me it was ice cream time so we all had one before TT. We got nearer to the front, the kids seemed okay. As DS got measured (he’s just over the 40”, so this happened a lot) he decides its toilet time. So I took off with him leaving DD as DW behind. If this was his way of saying he did not want to go on any rides, the theme parks could become places we just walk around a lot and buy over priced soda. But this was the real deal so after his call of nature we returned to the front of the queue and head to the ride. I was in such a rush I stepped in disgusting pink sick someone produced BEFORE the ride. Ugh! EVERYONE enjoyed the ride. DS was a little shaken up, but in a good way, he wanted to go back on later.

Fatigue seemed to hit us around the World Showcase and my holiday low-point struck without warning. I have said the Cappuccino you get at the Italian coffee stand is the finest I have ever tasted. I was really looking forward to this. I bought two and sat down to enjoy it. Warm! Not hot, it was warm! Totally spoiled. Bah! As holiday low points go, I think I got off easy!

It was only after 3pm, but we decided to call it a day. I continue to navigate, pointing out the right exits, checking for cars. By now DW is getting use to cars pulling in and out the whole time. Back in the UK this would cause heavy beeping and perhaps road rage, but it seems the norm to drift in and out of lanes suddenly. I noted a number of large skids on the road before each exit. It looks like a lot of people realised they were in the wrong lane and changed at the last minute. “Just a little slower next time” I say to DW after she takes the exit hitting 50 mph!

We arrive back at the Holiday Inn, pop into the pool for a while. While I find the H.I. okay, nothing special. It’s clean, so I’m happy, I do like their pool. In the past I could never understand the Brits who went so far for a holiday but spent so much time sitting by the pool. We kept seeing the same faces there no matter what time we went. But I must admit an hour or so in the afternoons IN the pool was something I was learning to appreciate.

Later we headed off to Prime (formally Belz). I have not been here in years and wanted to see if it the new name had attracted any new stores. Well, not much same old, same old. We end up sending a bit in GAP, which I find cheap and cheerful.

Its only 7, but I’m ready for bed already! We again head to Ponder-grosser for a quick bite and back to the hotel to watch the latest episode of Lost. After checking the weather for tomorrow I watch a bit of Larry King and the news. I took note of the TERROR ALERT: ELEVATED notice on CNN. This didn’t worry me, but I just found it a little odd. USTV news is more edgy than our own. There are a lot fun Jeremy Paxman journalists how seem to like arguing. I made 10.30, but then the body told me to sleep.

Next time: A Marvel-ous time
