Trip:: 7 nights at Beach Club for our third family trip to WDW-first trip for Christmas activities. November 29-December 6
Our family first experienced the magic of Disney in the summer of 2000 and were anxious to return which we did in January of 2002. This holiday trip became a dream over Christmas break last year when I was surfing the internet. I hadnt been on DIS much(its not as much fun without a trip in sight!
); so I jumped over to DIS to see what was new. I read and re-read the holiday plans everyone had, took some notes from questions and information, and enjoyed the trip reports from people that had been there over the holidays...it didnt take me long to convince DH that a return trip to WDW was in order.
We werent sure at first when to go. We loved the craziness of WDW in the summeralthough the heat is another story!
However, I knew my work was going to tie up the following summer because of a huge renovation project at my early intervention center. We enjoyed our January trip, but wanted something a little different. Thus, we began to consider a holiday trip.
Ultimately, we sure were glad we had not opted for a summer trip. My work became very complicated, between construction meetings and constant decisions and monitoring of the project, I was at work more than I was at home! Additionally, as fate would have itDH had his third back surgery which required about 2 months of recovery in the summer.
The start of the school year brought continued stress as the completion of the construction was delayed and further delayed the opening of our program. And sadly, DHs mother was found to have another bout of cancerthis time an inoperable tumor on her spine and began radiation treatments. Throughout our stressful and hectic summer and fall, the motivation of WDW in the months ahead kept us sane. It was like a lifeline that kept pulling us along with the anticipation of family time together for a well-deserved vacation. We just kept thinking...we can do this, we only have ____ days until Disney!!

We signed on with Dreams Unlimited again and bought plane tickets. We debated a place to stay. We have stayed at POR in the past, but with the 3 girls getting bigger and wanting a change of scenerywe opted for something different. After we made reservations at BC, we held our breath hoping for an AP discount which to our reliefeventually happened!
The months counted down to weeks and we were finally down to a week before. DHs mother had some complications from the radiation and went in to the hospital which gave us a momentary scare but things settled down and we proceeded on with our plans. The girls diligently worked on their school work over the Thanksgiving break so they could have some of their work done ahead when they returned. We made our traditional Mickey shaped pizza on Thanksgiving(!) as well as Mickey shaped cookies for dessert(are we pathetic or what!?)
As luck would have it, we finally got snow the day before we leftso that made our departure even sweeter!!
The suburban was loaded for our 4:30 departure for the airport(yikes!) and the kids were hyper, restless, and buzzing with excitement. OK, who am I fooling...Im the one who is hyper and buzzing with excitement!!!!
Its a feeling of a fantastic family getaway which we all deserve. Its a chance to be a family doing something everyone loves. Its the reward at the end of months of stress and craziness. Its the magic of DISNEYand were off!!!
Were going to DISNEY!!!
Stay tuned for YIPPEE, were here!!, Arrival & Whispering Canyon
