Hey Heidi! I hope you guys are having a blast, can't wait to chat with you when you get back. :goodvibes

It was a dark and stormy night and we had but a few short hours left until we were due to depart for the Syracuse airport to catch our flight down to the uncertain welcome that we would get in Orlando. Tropical Storm Fay was due to hit around the time we were due to arrive and we were very nervous about our flight. Would the flight be canceled, would it be delayed? :scared: I had spent the evening at work obsessively checking the National Hurricane Centre and JetBlue's website. Once I got off from work at midnight I headed over to Alek's apartment to pick him up. He had a pretty light load with him as mom had already gone over there earlier in the day to pick up the clothes he wanted to pack so she could wash them for him.

Once home I did some last minute packing and spent my last two hours before leaving chatting with some friends over on Fairy Godmother's. I was due to meet up with a few of them along with some Disers later on in the week and I was very excited about this.

Around 2:30 we decided to head out as it is a two hour drive to Syracuse and we wanted to leave plenty of time for crossing the border and slow traffic due to the rain.

Doesn't Alek look excited to be on the way?

The first stop was McDonald's to pick up some food as we would not get the chance to eat again until arriving in Orlando around 1pm. When we pulled up to place our order they kindly informed us that they were only serving chicken products at the moment. :headache: Alek and Erich were fine with this as they love chicken mcnuggets. I on the other hand had to settle for some french fries. Once we got our food we were on our way!

There were absolutely no cars at the border, not unexpected at 3:00 in the morning. :rotfl: The border guard was really weird though, asked us all sorts of strange questions. :confused3

Once the border guard released us we made it to the airport in good time. We had 2 1/2 hours until our flight.

We headed up to security and Mom, Erich and I got through fine but they thought Alek was a bit suspicious and took him and his bag over to the side for a special inspection. They completely emptied his bag and then pressed what looked like little pieces of tape all over his bag. Erich joked that this is when we would find out the tragic truth that Alek secretly does heroine. They finally decided that Alek was not smuggling drugs or any dangerous items in his backpack and let him through.

Once we settled down at the gate I pulled out Breaking Dawn (I had been saving this for the trip and had a really hard time avoiding spoilers on the Focker thread  ) and Alek and Erich pulled out their game systems and laptop.

Erich eventually got tired and decided to take a nap on the floor.

By the time we boarded our flight the skies had cleared (thank goodness) and we were able to take off smoothly.

The flight had a brief stopover in New York (Hi Scott!) We got to stay on the plane though as it was continuing service to Orlando. Alek and Erich had seats further up the plane (we couldn't all get seated together as we had switched flights last minute) so Mom and I went up to chat with them only to find them sound asleep.

Since they were asleep we went back to our seats to watch some tv. I was happy to find that Angel was on, back to back episodes.

Mom is so happy to be on vacation

Mom chatted away with the lady seated next to us, she was traveling down to Orlando with her daughter and grandson. He was the cutest baby, so well behaved! She also chatted it up with the lady sitting behind us who was headed to Disney as well. I swear my mom can make friends with a complete stranger in seconds.

The flight down to Orlando was pretty smooth up until we got to Florida, then the clouds started to build, oh no Fay!

The last hour of that plane ride was terrifying! It was so bumpy, my hands were gripping the armrests so hard. When we landed the flight attendant came on the speaker and asked us all to give our pilot Gary a round of applause for landing us safely, the entire plane clapped enthusiastically.

I was so happy to get off that plane let me tell you!

Glad you made it safely!!!! Flying through storms is a real pain!

It sure is! I was terrified, I can only imagine how bad others had it considering we were only flying through the outer bands of Fay and not the actual storm. :scared:

Yay you started!

Glad you werent delayed on the way down. Can't wait for more!!! :yay:

It was killing me waiting so long to start this, I wanted to start yesterday but the pictures being locked up on Erich's computer threw a wrench into my plans. I spent all day transferring pictures over though and they are now all safely saved on my computer for easy access. :goodvibes

I was really happy we were not delayed, we were so worried about that even though we had switched from the evening flight to the morning flight.

I remember being on a plane once where the ride was so bumpy that everyone applauded when we landed. It was terrifying! I'm glad you all made it in one piece.

What is it with boys not doing their own laundy? My boyfriend's mom still does his laundry and he's 25!

:confused3 It is only Alek that gets the special treatment, probably since he doesn't live at home anymore so she takes every opportunity to (s)mother him. :lmao: She even refused to pack two of the shirts he wanted to bring and went out and bought him some new shorts as she didn't think he was bringing enough. (He never wore them). :rotfl:

That sounds like a scary landing :scared1: I bet nobody in Florida right now is naming their baby Fay!! I am glad you landed safely.

Yay! You've begun!

It's so weird reading your TR now because I can actually "hear" your voice as I read. :upsidedow

Anyhoo, I can't believe they took Alek aside

Thank goodness you had no delays though, stupid Fay.

:cool1: Great Start!! I'm gripped. A nice new TR to read! Its like opening a nice bottle of wine.:cloud9:
