The Side effects of the AP-Trip#6 Oct 10 Final thoughts and some TMI

Even though I did not live in this house during hurricane Hugo, the newpaper was delivered and the daycare center was open the day after the hurricane. :scared1:

Staff is reporting today, but the kids are still out here. The main roads are clear, but they are saying some of the side roads are still bad.

I lived in Charleston during Hurricane Hugo -- needless to say we had it a bit worse. We were out of school for three weeks that September, and we won't even talk about the lack of electricity or running water. :sad2:

Ah, at least if I have to be up and getting ready this early in the morning, I have your giraffe and AK Christmas tree pics to cheer me up! :goodvibes

:yay: and :sad2: All at the same time. It will be good to get back into a routine but it is always hard getting going after a couple of extra days off.

Schools are on a delay but colleges and work are back to normal. Road are clear here. Just a patch or two where the sun don't shine.

Be careful- usually getting out of the neighborhood is the worset part.

We had been in NC less that a year and were staying in my MIL house while she was living in Raleigh ( longer story). We had just closed on a house about 45 north of here and after the storm we had to choose which house to stay in. The IL house had no electricity or water for a few weeks, but it furnished. Our new house had water and electricity but no furniture. We moved in quick but had to wait weeks for telephone, cable and refrigerator delivery.

Glad I could help. :goodvibes Hope you enjoyed your day. Hopefully once you got gong it was not as bad as it seemed.

I see my little blue friend down there under that tree. You can barely see his eyes. :eeyore:
That is such an awesome tree, too.

For whatever reason, not too many animals out this time.

AksafariCheetas123109.jpg

That's too bad. Morning safaris have been some of the best for us. At least you did get to see cheetahs in plain view. That doesn't always happen.

Thanks for the mini trip to Animal Kingdom this morning. We will be there again six weeks from Monday! :dance3:

I kind of thought we might do that today, CP. We did that after the flood - teachers went back and kind of got things ready for the kids. At that time, a lot of our kids had had damage to/lost their homes, so we had to talk about the emotional aspects of how they would be when they returned. This time, our kids will just be mad that they have to come back before their snowmen have melted. ;) They have put out the word that they are trying to get everything in order for us to return tomorrow. Then we have a three day weekend! :goodvibes

I have a better shot of the camera shy guy a bit later.
I thought of you as I took them and then as I posted them. :goodvibes

This was a bit unusual. I usually have good luck in the morning, but the trucks started rolling at 8 am and we got there about 9-9:30. We may have missed the early activity. Don't worry, we went back.

AK always brings a smile to my face. :goodvibes

Every time I see that AK Christmas tree, I am amazed!! It is so pretty!! And so perfect for the setting!

A morning safari is a nice thing to do isn't it? Your animals do seem to be out and about- maybe they were also foraging for an early lunch, too? :rotfl:

I love that first happy holiday framed photopass photo and the stitch present is a riot!

fun morning.

I love every Christmas tree in Disney. Since each one is themed special to the area it is in, there is always something new to see.

Not as many out as I usually encounter during the "early " safari. Since it was A and B's first safari I was a bit dissapointed for them but we went back later and of course the safari was different which was a comment from both of them that we could ride all day and never have the same experience twice. :thumbsup2

We had quite a few good photos and some bad ones too. :rotfl2:

I finally learned to doff all my attachments, lanyard, bag, etc. so I didn't look so much like a packrat instead of a poolrat. :rotfl2:

I like this picture. :thumbsup2

Thanks. I never quite love any picture taken of me but that one is not too bad. :lmao:

I guess on most days you have a lifeguard whistle around your neck instead of a lanyard?

Now my whistle is just on my keys. When I do step out on deck if I have to comminucate with my guards I can do it quickly. I am not one able to just whistle with my mouth loud enough. :rolleyes1 Yeah I can't do that loud.

I actually have a whistle on my work keys and my house keys. I guess I should explain. The house keys started way back when I first started Lifeguarding and I guess I just have never taken it off over the years. :confused3 But I do always have one with me, unless I am Disney.

If anyone ever needs a lanyard and a whistle, just ask. I have plenty. :lmao:

Hi, Pat. I have to get up in six hours for a 4-1/2 hour drive to go see our youngest son, but I wanted to subscribe and I'll catch up when we get back home.

A had gone back towards the safari for a cup of coffee maybe??? Since we were at Pizzafari that makes no sense but I think they only got over the bridge when she wanted the coffee and doubled back.

B and I wait. We people watch while we wait. We notice this guy
AkManwithshoes3123109.jpg

He is with 2 CMs and they were in conversation about something. Look at his shoes. They are brand new and still had tags on the shoes. I tried but could not get a close up view of the tags. He seemed a bit eccentric and it appeared the CMs were escorting him to the front. It was a bit "different" when he went by. :confused3
A joins up with us and we enjoy a late breakfast. Sorry, no food porn.
We had a very attentive CM that chatted with us for a while and was very nice about fetching items like napkins or jelly for us. We tried to get it ourselves but she would not let us. She insisted she get it.
After we were done we spent some time taking pictures. You see this was another first for me. I have never eaten at Pizzafari before. The family always opted for the Restaurantsaurus in Dinoland.

We visit the bathroom and it is another small one. Not really small but not the massive ones I was accustomed to .

I did get a few laughs about me taking tile pictures in the bathroom.
AKpizzafarisnakeplate123109.jpg

I thought this was interesting, even the sign for the telephone TDD area was themed.

Outside the entrance. I never noticed that this was all made up of animals.
AkPizzafarioutsidewallart123109.jpg

A little more silliness. B thought the cat statue was funny. She first posed next to it. Then we started laughing about it and then a CM came out and offered to take a picture of all of us.

AKPizzafariallofusbystatue123109.jpg

I can hardly keep from laughing. These were fun times.

The question of “where to?” came up. We were going to go to the safari with our FP but when we came to path leading to Camp Minnie Mickey and a CM was trying to gather an audience for the 11 am show of Festival of the Lion King. They looked at me for guidance and I told them it was a good show. The decision was made, we head that way since we will walk right in.

Next up Festival of the tumble monkeys, I mean Lion King.;)

Somehow I got unsubscribed to your TR! :sad2: I noticed you said something about a post on here when I was reading MeMom's thread and realized I hadn't been over here in ages, went to look for it and couldn't find it on my subscribed list - who knows what happened :confused3

I've got TONS of catching up to do, I'll probably have to cheat and use your links and skip all the chatter - be back soon!

I have had that happen to me too. :sad2: No worries. Dis has been doing some very odd things and dropping subscriptions is just one of the minor ones.
:rotfl2:

I have had my fair share of these or just blank screens lately.

False start. My lovely county waits until the last minute. Thankfully I am home and NOT going out. I do need to take care of the luge run, I mean my driveway so that maybe I can get out tomorrow. :rotfl2:
Luge run! That is too funny! I hadn't thought about it like that, but I guess we have one of those too! When I finally made it out, I got extra bags of de-icer for the drive, and finally broke down and bought a snow shovel for "next time!" I was out today trying to clear some more of the snow but most of it has become hard packed ice now, and it was quite a battle just trying to make the smallest progress!
After our beautiful sunrise and getting ready, it was about 8:10am we make it to

CSRHMbusstop123109.jpg
Cool Hidden Mickey!!! :thumbsup2

Love the sunrise and Christmas tree pictures! I took pictures of quite a few different ones while we were there! I know what/who most of them were decorated for, but there are a few that hopefully someone can give me a clue, because I didn't have one! :confused3

No school here until this coming Tuesday (MLK Holiday Monday)! There is still quite a bit of snow around which was frozen rock hard with the cold overnight temps! Everything looks like a sheet of glass, and there are still a lot of secondary roads and areas that aren't clear yet! They are hoping that three of the days will be "forgiven" and they won't have to make them up! :rolleyes1

Icy hill of a driveway and that is what we get. :rotfl2:
I made the boy go out and shovel Monday night, and I put the ice melt down Tuesday when I thought I would have to go in. That is pretty much SOP around here since my driveway does not get any sun.

I asked my parents ( live now in PA but I grew up in NY) to bring me a "real" shovel. So I have a NY/PA snow shovel. It works on all types of snow- white fluffy to the heavy dense kind and I can use the edge to chip the ice too. :thumbsup2

We are clear now but the neighborhood still has some significant icy spots on the road and teh sidewalks. Walking today was interesting, slip and fall or get hit by a car.

I look forward to seeing your trees. I am sure someone will chime in.

We have school Monday but it is in middle of exam week so it is a "regular " day and not a reveiw or test day. So.... My son is staying home. :rolleyes1

Jillyb is north of me and they were out all week. I hope they petition to have some days forgiven. We will make up the other 2 days in Feb. If we get any more snow we may have an issue.

Yeah, we have a long sloping driveway that makes for quite a "luge" run too! It runs through trees that provide shade, plus it is on the north side, so the downhill slope also protects it from the sun! I expect we will have snow there for quite a while! The wooded area along the drive is still completely covered in snow!

Love to get one of those "real" snow shovels! The one I found at the local Home Depot seems a little more flimsy than I hoped. :sad2:

I've never so much as stepped foot in Pizzafari, so thanks for the pictures. I think I figure I can get pizza anywhere, so opt for something else. Plus, we've brought sandwiches into the park on a couple of AK days.

That picture with the cat does look like a fun time. I'm glad that you and your friends were enjoying yourselves. :)
