I have a S5 IS and I am thinking of getting a Canon 40D because I really want to elliminate the "I don't think this is going to work" feeling I sometimes get while taking pics.

BUT, sometimes we all get lucky...We sometimes can hand hold the camera for 1/2 a sec and not get blurr, we can sometimes just luck out...

Well, SHOW ME...

Here is mine. I was at Universal City Walk on Dec 22nd, 2007 and noticed the moon and I zoomed in more to see it up close than to try to get a pic because I thought there was no way...well, you tell me...Not bad for a P&S...

Awesome moon shot! :thumbsup2

Nothing I've taken even comes close to this.

Trying to get lightning without special equipment is always a crap shoot. So last September when we had an event with frequent bolts that was a goodly distance from my house, I went out and just kept clicking.

At the time I knew I had gotten something but was flabbergasted when I looked at it on the computer. I call it my once in a lifetime photo.

yeah trying to get lightening to me is just a test of seeing how frustrated i can get:rotfl2:
since there is a celestial phenom feel to this thread ;) i liked this moon shot, i was irritated because by the time i got everything out of the car and set up clouds had rolled in but i waited( husband's loud sighing had to be ignored for a good 15-20 mins;) ) and got this one, which i actually think i like more with the cloud in it than i would have without them..

any more???...

How about I knew it turned out but once I got it on my computer, it was even better than I thought.

We were at Stirling Castle in Scotland, and I turned around and saw the Wallace Monument. I had taken my small Minolta Dimage Z3 with me on that trip because we were there right after all the proposed terrorists were captured, and carry-on luggage was really restricted. I just did a "point and shoot" thing with the monument zoomed in; I think it turned out kind of nice, but it was an iffy shot.

Awesome pictures! I am definitely in awe of you all.

I'm still learning...definitely NOT a pro...but I LOVE taking pictures and I keep trying all the time. The first time I took the shot below, the fireworks from Mickey's hands came out all blurred (even poor Mickey was blurred). This time it didn't and it's one of my favorites from my last trip.

nice job...I need to sit closer on my next trip...the back row and a point and shoot don't mix well.

The surprise in this photo was the bird taking off just as the boat went by. I think it makes the picture. :)

I shot this trying to get the form of the wave behind the rocks, but when I shot it, I had forgot to take the camera of "high speed" shooting mode and it took a burst of five pictures. This was the last of the set, which ended up coming out the best.

i love this shot.

This was shot ffor a photo challenge with motion as the subject.
It was a one shot try, obviously. In fact, being a downtown chicago street with a construction fence blocking the sidewalk I barely got out of the way in time to get ready for the shot.

This pic was one I was playing around on the settings of my S2. I almost deleted it because it focussed on the wrong subject. That's my wife and daughter in the kayak in the background. However, I kept it and now it has grown on me as it seems to evoke the tranquility of the moment.
