I have been very nostalgic lately. Probabally because we are removating my Grandparent's house that I grew up in, and memories are around every corner!

But picking a bunch of lilacs yesterday, and taking a deep breath of them, I was suddenly a 3rd grader bringing a bunch of them on the school bus to my teacher. Everyone did that then.

Crayons are another smell that is linked to such strong memories.

When I hear a baseball game broadcast, I remember so so so much about laying on the living room floor in front of a box fan lsitneing to the game on NBC because at that time, in this area, NBC was all you got, and if it was playing baseball, that's what you got!

What about you all?

Room temp bacon grease reminds me of my grandmother. She almost always cooked bacon every morning. I'm sure if she was still around today, she'd be appalled that that's one scent I associate with her.:teeth: It's my comfy scent though.:)

We live in the country and some homes in our village have coal fires. If I get a whiff of coal smoke it immediately takes me back to whan I was a child and spending long cold winter evenings in front of an open fire. :cloud9:

frieplace smoke, musty books ( we had a shed out back with some books in it and there was an old Atlas that I would look at for hours!), old buildings smell.

As for sounds lots of outside sounds crickets, frogs, birds.
We were outside kids. :)

Raisin Bran cereal always reminds me of my Grandmother's house... I used to eat it all the time there! :) The smell of Fresh Flowers reminds me of our garden, and the smell of fireplaces takes me back to roasting marshmallows in our own fireplace growing up!

Scents:
a roast in the oven for Sunday dinner
fresh cut grass on a baseball diamond
a real Christmas tree
smell (from the gum) of a freshly opened pack of baseball cards

Sounds:
Listening to ball games on my am transistor radio (with ear piece)
ice cream trucks bells on a hot summer night
crackling of a campfire

Mulch & freshly cut grass
Play Doh
New pencils sharpened...just for the first day of school;)

Scents:
My mother's perfume
Rain on the pavement
Horses & hay

Sounds:
The Indy 500 on the radio

sometimes when my kids fight back and forth reminds me of when i was little and picking fights with my brother.

strawberries reminds me of helping my grandma pick strawberries in her patch.

looking at my children as they go to school on their last day today reminds me of how it felt to know that the whole summer was ahead.

fresh cut grass reminds me of my mom riding the lawn mower griping on how she will never get done:D

Oh i could go on and on!!!!!

Pam

Oil of Olay reminds me of my grandmother...and my mom uses it too. And now I do so I think of her every time I put it on.

The smell of freshly cut grass reminds of those wonderful carefree summer days with no responsibility...ahhhhh

The ice cream truck music always brings me back too.

And the music from Happy Days always makes me think of the evenings spent watching it with my mom and grandmother.

My Mom was an 'Avon Lady' who sold door to door when we lived in South Philly. She bought me a little girl version of the suitcase thingy she brought with her, and inside of it was a perfume just for little girls called "Daisies Don't Tell." Bath & Body Works Green Clover and Aloe (I think it's discontinued, isn't it?) reminded me of that scent so much! Really made me feel like I was 4 years old again!

Sweet Honesty perfume reminds of being 14 y.o. and walking on Wildwood's boardwalk at night.

The smell of hay reminds of my grandparent's farm in Missouri.

The sound of crickets reminds me of sitting on my front steps and talking for hours to the neighbors in the summer time.

I can taste these berries that grew on a vine in my back yard, wild. Sometimes you would get a bad one that was bitter, but otherwise they were sweeter than sugar. Michigan is famous for moldy basements and I remember that smell when it gets into clothes. Lilaces too and Chanel #5- my mom's favorite.

the faint smell of coffee grounds in empty coffee cans reminds me of the caterpillars we used to catch and hatch out into moths...

Lillacs is definately a smell that brings me back to my childhood.

The same with burning leaves in the fall. Can't do that around here now, but everyone used to do it back then.

This is going to sound odd, but driveway sealer. I remember everytime my dad sealed the driveway, our dog would run through it and there were little black pawprints all up and down the walkway. Also, chlorine and fresh mowed grass remind me of summers growing up.

As for sounds, the sound of kids playing outside and laughing reminds me of when we would spend all day outside in the summer just running around the neighborhood and playing games like "kick the can" and kickball.

Violets (the candy)
Candy necklases
Archie Comics
Flavored snow balls sold at the Snowball stand at the ballpark
Any song by Blood Sweat and Tears:flower:
The sound of birds chirping early in the morning reminds me of childhood camping trips with the family. It's what I woke up hearing on those mornings.:flower1:

I love this thread!! Brings back such memories. :D

Smells: Outdoors, pine trees, fresh cut grass (grew up in the country, can ya tell? ;) ), playdoh, crayons, wood smoke, wet cement (my dad was a brick layer when I was a little girl), lots of baking smells

sounds: We had a water cooler when we were little so, the sound of a window airconditioner takes me right back :teeth: , window fans, whipporwills (sp?), crickets and frogs, anything by Tommy James and the Shondells (my dad's favorite group

Aaaah, to be young again! ::yes::

cow patties always remind me of passing the same field on the bus during middle school

The smell of the ocean in the air on a damp day - I really missed it when I moved away from NH for a while

Summer Rain - I was struck by that smell this evening and it just made me feel at peace

Fresh Cut Christmas trees - again something I missed when I lived in Tx

Jean Nate - reminds me of my Nana

The sound of all the neighborhood kids playing hide and seek on a summer evening. (Just like we did when we were kids.)
