The Saga of our Disney Dream home - It's about time!

Looks like the yellow chairs have a cult following lol! I think they need to become a pin at Disney lol or maybe even a ride. The spinning yellow patio chairs of LongBeach wait time is currently over an hour... Lol

Love the Mountain Dew Tee shirt. I love MD also :-)

You have such a funny sense of humor, I can't wait to meet you! We just cross posted! I am going to bed, we went to the park tonight, went shopping, I rode Star Tours and then we had dinner, and picked up more merchandise. For anyone who is interested Fran will be your personal shopper. Just give her a cut and she'll be happy to pick you up whatever you want! :rotfl2:

We picked up a bunch of merchandise tonight and she is listing it on eBay. We get a discount, so she would be willing to give it to you for list price or even possibly less as DIS friends, but that has to be negotiated. She wants to make something for her time!

She has found her calling! Personal Shopper! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Cool re Star Tours one of my fav rides! I just read your latest post on your new kitchen. You have so much scope going on there you must be so excited! I love the idea of cooking in an open space whilst the other person can watch the tv and you can both see it. I also am a big fan of islands in kitchens they are so handy for serving food and preparing food. It should be a legal building requirement lol. I can't wait to meet you too also!

I had an idea re the space above your fridge. It's the perfect place to store wine I think. It's cool from the fridge and you could get a really nice small wine rack either custom built or from a store. We have one by our oven in some wasted space ( our kitchens are small we treasure every inch ) . I don't drink much myself due to medication ( I love champagne and do treat myself once or twice a year or a bud light shandy ) but love the look of wine bottles in kitchens. It's so EPCOT 'food and wine' lol. Get yourself a really nice bottle of Crystal lol...pride of place in the middle... And nice local Cali wine! I made the mistake of trying Crystal champagne one day thinking who on earth in their right mind would pay 140 pounds ( 200 dollars ? ) for a bottle of liquid. Omg...liquid gold. I would lol.. Trust the french to come up with that beauty..

Here is our 'wine rack' ...( you would have it built horizontally obviously )

With two dishwashers, I would so be moving dishes from one to the other. :rolleyes1

Just think of all the extra cupboard real estate you could claim for other things if you don't have to allocate space for the plates. :thumbsup2

That kitchen is gorgeous! Love that huge island, and the countertops are beautiful. I'm looking forward to next time already. :)

I can't wait to start moving our stuff in and figuring out how we will Disneyfy it!

I can't wait to see it in all its Disneyfied glory.

Did you finally manage to do the Monte Cristo taste test?

The kitchen is amazing. This is the second home now where we have an open-plan kitchen and living area and I would not go back to having a separate kitchen.

Love, love, love the kitchen !

It looks like a real sociable place to cook

You must be so excited to get planning everything out :)

I'd probably be guilty of doing this too!

I love the kitchen and the woodwork around the fireplace in the family room.:thumbsup2

I'm another that would do the dishwasher to dishwasher trick. ;)

That kitchen is gorgeous! Love that island and cooktop. I'm sooooo jealous! I'm living in a house built in 1955 that hasn't been remodeled...I so love my bent metal cabinets and portable dishwasher. :) Those are my dream cabinets....they would be perfect for my Fiestaware collection.

So as much as I wanted this update to be about windows, I'm just not that big of a windows person, and when I looked through my pictures, I really didn't have any windows shots. Next time we are in the house, I will be sure to capture some windows shots, but instead I thought I would focus on what will most likely be the heart and soul of our home.

Alison, I really only wanted to see the back windows and you've already done a great job. That's a truly beautiful part of the house. :thumbsup2 They're gorgeous out to the back.

The house is just gorgeous. Just so very happy for both of you. And lovely how life works out! :thumbsup2

Now I have to get myself back over to the other Alison- the TR - I don't know why the heck I can never do two at once with you! :rolleyes1 It's a brain issue, for sure. :rotfl2:

Cute kitchen! I love it! Especially the Mickey towel!

Well, the spot over the fridge is not all that accessible, I need our wine a little easier to get to. That area is definitely for display. Here is where I "store" my wine. This will go in the garage at the new house.

This is what I call my red "drink now" section. I take reds that have come to mature in the current year and put them from the wine cabinet over here. There is even a method to my madness, the first two columns (starting on the right) are for Syrah and Syrah blends. The next 3-5 columns are for Pinot Noir. I don't age those in the cellar, they go right to "drink now" but take a while to rotate to the top. The top row has the oldest vintages. Next columns are the Zinfandels which take up anywhere from 3-5, then there are the Cabernets and blends. Most of my Cabernets don't come out of the cabinet until the night I plan to drink them as they are pricey and old. The far left is for Merlots. Sorry you asked right? :lmao:

Yeah, but I have more plates than dishwasher space so I would still need a footprint for the plates.

That kitchen is gorgeous! Love that huge island, and the countertops are beautiful. I'm looking forward to next time already. :)

I hope that next time you can come visit. Note the evil foreshadowing.....

Funny you should ask about that Monte Cristo Taste Test!

We started off with the Pomme Frites. We were starving and were pretty much in the last seating of the night.

We got both the cheese Monte Cristo and the regular.

Personally I really preferred the Ham/Turkey version over the cheese. There was a sort of 'funny' flavor in the cheese one as if perhaps they had left the rind on one of the cheeses. I ate half of a cheese chunk and a whole regular one and was stuffed! We took the rest home and Fran had a chunk of each for her second dinner tonight (as we call our midnight snack after band rehearsal), she clearly liked both.

If we get this house, I will surely prefer the open kitchen style and never want to go back to a separate kitchen again!

Love your wine array! I love the way you have drink it now wines what a great idea! I see what you mean re area not being accessible above fridge. Have to be some real cute eye candy! Be perfect for my teapot collection lol...

I don't want to get too excited. Technically it is not our home yet and we do not actually have it sealed up in the bag!

I love it!!! All of it. Hope you have many happy times.

Ana

Thanks! I sure hope it comes through! :welcome:

I'd probably be guilty of doing this too!

I love the kitchen and the woodwork around the fireplace in the family room.:thumbsup2

Perhaps occasionally....but technically my job is not to wash dishes, and unload, load the dishwasher, but we'll see how it turns out.

I'm another that would do the dishwasher to dishwasher trick. ;)

I remember my grandparents portable dishwasher at the house in Cape Cod in the 70's! I hope yours is improved from that! :lmao:

How do you think it is for me? :joker: I have three different ones going, and one that I need to finish up before my next trip, just to stay true to the code!

Well the whites don't require much storage, I just purchase them and keep them in a cooler. The reds require a little more discretion so I take them out as there is space. Then when I am cooking a red wine appropriate dinner I can go to the shelves and choose. Right now my cupboards are rather bare. I need to restock them with drink in 2013 wines, but I also need to catalog and fill new wines that I have received from my clubs!

You have a teapot collection, that's so cool! And so British! :rotfl2:

So I have a rather melancholy update for today. I'm not sure if I mentioned this but Fran and I know a kind of "Superman" loan guy. He helped us out a couple years ago. We thought that we would just "go with the flow" and use the guy that the realtors were recommending for our home loan.

They seemed to be competent. However what we didn't know was that to get us qualified, they used things that were impossible. Like they said we would have renters lined up for our houses once we moved out. Well, first off that is ridiculous. There is no way without serious contractor work that we could rent our apartments. While they told us that this would be nice, they didn't say that it was required for us to get the loan.

So we are one day out from our D-Day, and I'm still not exactly sure what this day entails, but we have no loan. And we are supposed to have one by now. Since there is no way we will get people who want to rent our place "as-is" and if they would we don't want them as tenants, we have gone with the our Superman loan guy. He has been waiting in the wings. Evidently he knew the other guy wouldn't be able to pull it off, so he has had our loan waiting to go. Thank god because what would we have done otherwise. I hope that things come out OK tomorrow and I plan on celebrating tomorrow with podsnel at DL, either that or drown my sorrows. Either way we are getting together!

Great work, Alison.

Nice to have Plan B sitting in the wings. :thumbsup2
