The role they gave me was my lowest wanted role

I am a junior in college and have been accepted to do the fall advantageprogram. The role I was accepted for, although I know it is essential, is one of my least wanted roles. I am just wondering if it is possible to move to different areas once in the program?

Hello, and Welcome!

Most role offers are final, unless for medical or other related reasons you are unable to perform the task(s) that are required for said role. Remember you do have 10 days to accept/decline the offer.

What role were you offered?

If you plan on extending you can try to extend your program into a different role but besides that it's very rare for CPs to get switched without a medical condition.

Part of the reason I am uncertain of the role is because I have a tendency to be allergic to a lot of fabric softener s and laundry detergents. I was accepted for mousekeeping but don't want to turn down an offer if there is a possibility I am not allergic to the detergents and cleaners used.

That's probably something you should have considered before you put it as even a low choice, because they do ask you if you're able to perform any of the roles without a problem. If you're sensitive to detergents, that would be a pretty big part of this role. If, like you say, you might not be, and you want to do the program (which you should! It's an amazing opportunity for any role), then I guess you can address it if it actually becomes a problem. Your skin might be fine!

You shouldn't have put a role on there you weren't looking forward to doing. There's not much worse being stuck doing a job for almost 40 hours a week for months and hating it.

it's important to not put roles down you can't preform safely or without reasonable accomdation. if you do get switched it would be to a big role like qsfb or merchandise, which usually aren't high up on people's totempoles either...

Me too! I was kinda shocked because I thought I presented myself very well for what I wanted (BBB) but they put me in Attractions. I'm ecstatic for the experience but I wish I could have been put in a role that related to my major.

Well BBB is probably the most competitive role, they only take about 30 people I think?
I understand though, my top choice was merchandise which is a huge role and related to my major but I didn't get it and all my answers were good. I don't have cashier experience but I know other people who have that role don't always either. I got custodial which I've already done and I know they need people for that but I really don't understand why they would put me there... gr whatever haha

The disappointing thing is that I've heard of people getting that role with no experience. I've been doing hair and make-up for kids for 7 years now. I work very well with kids and I've also taken stage make-up classes. I feel like I'm maybe over-qualified for the job. I don't mind don't attractions. I just really wanted to do this as an internship in my field rather than just an internship for job experience.

Did you tell them you have custodial experience? If so, they try to match people with their past experience. I had 3 years of food experience and they asked why F&B wasn't on my checklist, I just said, "because I don't want to do that anymore."

If it's on your checklist (any ranking), and you have experience, you have a much better chance of getting it.

What roles (in order) are in the highest demand?

Are you speaking in terms of what has the most openings?

Hands down - Food and Beverage

Merchandise, Attractions, and Custodial are high too.

Whereas, roles with the least amount of openings...

The Pirates League (I'm pretty sure this one is so low it's not even on the checklist yet - though they've been hiring CPs for it for a couple years now)

BBB has slightly more than TPL, because they have 2 shops.

Well I had already done custodial in a CP so yeah, but in the interview I said I wanted to do something new. And my friend who had also done custodial put it low like I did but she got a different role :/
At least I know exactly how to do it and won't have any problems or anything but I really really wanted to do something else after doing it for 9 months haha.
