The return of AFTER DARK! Sweethearts, Villains, and Star Wars

We have done these at WDW and will be at Disneyland for the Villians Night at DCA on March 8th. Have these been received well in the past? Do the crowds clear out pretty well?

Interesting story - about a month or two back took an uber back to my hotel and we started talking Disney obviously. He said he had a long time friend who works for some part of local Disney so heard the events would return in 2022. I admit I didn't believe it but here we are.

I see more OT in my future..

So if you already have a park hopper ticket for say 3/10 do you have to then "double pay" for the Villian night?

Yes. You can't enter any of the parks during the event without buying a ticket to the event. Event tickets let you in a couple hours before the event to enjoy, but if someone wanted to enjoy the whole day they would have to buy a day ticket AND an event ticket.

So this is cute…I still had my tickets from the canceled Star Wars Nite in 2020, which was going to be the week of Star Wars Celebration. When it was canceled we were told we could refund them, or hang onto them - we would be eligible to transfer them to the new date when it was rescheduled. I really wanted to go, so I hung onto them.

Now there’s a new date…and a $66 “additional fee” per ticket to transfer the tickets! We paid $109 for the original event, but tickets for the rescheduled date are now $175, and to transfer our tickets, we also have to cough up the difference. After holding onto these tickets for almost 2 years.

I’m coming to CA for SW Celebration, so the earlier dates (which are cheaper, so a smaller upcharge) aren’t an option for us…Disney knows they have us trapped, so they’re taking all the advantage they can. I’m so mad about this right now.

Do the Star Wars After Dark tickets usually sell out right away? I'm wondering how difficult it will be to get tickets for May 4.

I thought there was a straight exchange option (May 3 and 4) and the upcharge was only if you chose May 27. Is that the particular date you wanted and that's why you are mad?

Has anyone attended the Star Wars after dark event? If so, how was it?

Those look so fun, but what a shame they only do them for so few nights! I would have done the Villians night if they had it more dates in March.

Frustrated with those early May dates for Star Wars After Dark... We'll be there with our grandson for his first trip, and the party is going on 2 out of our 4 days. We'll be able to work around it, but annoyed all the same. Oh well! I know plenty of people will be enjoying it! (And it's hard to argue the appropriateness of it being on Star Wars Day.)

Yes, you are correct. The Disney Parks Blog says only the 27th has the additional fee.

If the dates you wanted are for May 3 or 4, call them back because per the parks blog there is no additional charge. If you wanted the 27th then, yeah, it says additional fee, which I would be mad too!

We are going to Sweethearts Nite on the 8th which works out perfect because that’s my Birthday 🥳 I almost bought a day ticket for the 8th earlier today and I’m so glad I didn’t or I would’ve been kicked out at 5pm. I much prefer the low crowd evening hours of this instead.

You only have to pay a difference for the May 27 date. The early May dates are an even exchange. If your trip was earlier in the month, you wouldn't need to pay anything extra. But I imagine it would be more expensive to do two trips rather than just pay the upcharge in your situation :confused3

The reason for the upcharge is that 5/27 is technically excluded. So all they're doing is like they do with expired tickets: give you face value to apply to a new ticket. And I'm guessing it's because of the Star Wars Celebration that's happening during the same time frame why the date is excluded from the exchange.

My only option is the 27th, since I’m traveling to CA for Star Wars Celebration.

That's the thing- Going on May the 4th is always a risk!!!

I wouldn't sleep on it. Maybe not the first dsy, but the Halloween Party ON Halloween Night at CA Adventure was gone within a couple of days, and that event took over a month to sell out.

Again, I’m traveling to CA for Star Wars Celebration that week, so the 27th is my only option. I live on the East Coast, traveling for the earlier dates isn’t an option here.

The reason for the upcharge it’s because they can. The convention is that week, we’re stuck with no other option, so they‘re going to soak us for all they can. I understand there’s an upcharge on expired tickets. I’m already dealing with that on my expired park hoppers I originally had for that trip too. I wouldn’t even be that upset if there was minimal upcharge on the SW Nite tickets. But this a $66 upcharge per ticket.

That’s insane. They’ve had my tickets and my money for almost two years. I’ve been looking forward to this forever, and they’re being tremendously lousy about it. Yes, they’re a business, but this is unreasonable.

And they’re only doing this because the convention. I don’t even think the holiday weekend figures into it. It’s the Star Wars convention.
