This guy bought and restored a car from the old Fort Wilderness Railroad and after years it's still available for sale (listed over a year ago):

The Ebay Listing

I don't know if I can afford to Buy It Now for the asking price of $689K. I would have to use the Make An Offer button.

"Free local pickup" for an item located in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Any DISser nearby?

I've seen pictures of it and the guy has brought it to the Fort while he was staying there (supposedly). Disney, also supposedly, has had no interest in buying it (back) which is sad. I bet it was so cool to camp at the Fort when the trains were running.

Here is a picture from the Ebay listing:

Maybe we could form an LLC to go in together and buy it and I could store it here at my house? :rolleyes1

That's so cool. There is an entire generation (or two) of people that don't even realize they had a train at FW. We have just a smidge of some old videos showing the tracks and the train in the 'early days'. I guess it just wasn't a very practical mode of transportation, and they moved on eventually. Thanks for sharing!

Barb and Bill have a dairy farm a few hours from there.

Hmmm...............

Yes @bama_ed, it was cool to camp at FW with the steam train there. It cost $.50 and we rode in that car/one like it, several times. Our two children were small, and our son 3 or 4 years old absolutely loved it. The campground was much smaller then, and the woods more dense. The steam whistle was a beautiful sound. Great memories!!

The restoration is beautiful!

We do only live about 1 1/2 hours from Whitewater. Hummm, we have those big heavy flatbeds that haul an excavator for farm use. I don’t think that would work, as well as my pocketbook. I wonder if he has it on display.

I remember riding it when I was a kid. We weren't staying there but I was big into trains so had to ride it. On the same day, probably rented a canoe and traversed the canals. I say probably as I do remember renting a canoe with my sister during one trip to the mouse house.

I happened to catch him at the Fort one time and got to sit in the car. He has a custom built trailer he hauls it on and I'm sure it would be included in the sale. We visited Disney when the trains were running but sadly we camped Jellystone campgrounds and not the Fort. I too wish I could have rode them some.
