Who: 2 adults, 4-year old, 2-year old
What: Disney Dining Plan
When: Oct 11-17
Where: Akershus, Boma, Crystal Palace, The Wave, Marrakesh, Sci-Fi, Kouzzina, Epcot Food and Wine

The scoop:
- Character Dining (Akershus, Crystal Palace) - we will skip next time. Food is just OK, and having to go get the food ourselves is a big pain. Appetizer buffet at Akershus extremely limited and side dishes were uninspiring. Crystal palace was loud and they don't serve any alcohol (not even beer, I'm supposed to sit through a loud buffet full of hyper kids - including mine - without even a beer???), although the salads were good. Main fish dishes at Akershus were cooked nicely.

- Boma - Loud, some good food (hummus, soups), but the main dishes really needed more of a flavor/heat kick. For example, they had a salmon in a coconut curry type of sauce. I love salmon, and love coconut curry. There was no heat to it, it was so very mild. It's too sweet without heat.

- Sci-Fi - Cute atmosphere. Overpriced. Skip the appetizer platter. Do it once.

- The Wave - FABULOUS. Real food. Real atmoshphere. And kid-friendly. Not sure why it's not booked solid every night. We had lamb and steak and they were both delish, as well as their little dessert trios.

- Marrakesh - GREAT. We had lamb and fish. Wonderful.

- Kouzzina - AWESOME. Once again, we had lamb and the whole fish. Flavorful, tender, complex. Desserts were so good. Even the bread was good. Our best meal. Just like The Wave, it was a real restaurant with real food.

I'm lucky that it turned out that I booked Akershus, Boma, and Crystal Palace for the first three nights, and The Wave, Marrakesh and Kouzzina for the last 3 nights. If it would have been the other way around, I would have been disappointed.

Dining plan. Not sure why people talk about free dining. It's not free. In our case, it was cheaper to buy the regular discounted room and pay for Dining Plan than to purchase the room at rack rate and get free dining. On the fence about Disney Dining. We did not lose money, but it is very limiting. We usually order 1-2 appetizers, 2 main entrees, 1-2 desserts, and share with our kids, instead of getting them kid meals. The children's menus were very limited. We also do not drink non-alcoholic beverages at dinner, just beer and wine.

Epcot Food and Wine was good, but lines were long. Tokyo and Spain were fab. Little lamb chop at Melbourne for $5.50 was highway robbery - good thing it was only one snack credit

Looking forward to going back next year!

Glad to hear you liked Marrakesh and Kouzzina. I'll be at Kouzzina in less than 2 weeks and visiting Marrakesh in December!

I think the DP is limiting and have never done it myself. The touringplans.com blog did a comparison and "free dining" is only "free" if you stay at a Mod or Deluxe. And it was really just discounted, not completely free. There was hardly any different in price for those staying at a Value.

Thank for the review!

Thanks for your reviews. Alcohol is not served anywhere in the Magic Kingdom for future reference.

I am looking forward to trying the Wave and Kouzzina. We're dining at Marrakesh in December.
