The first question I would have is - do you have any foot problems?
I have an arthritic big toe (karate injury) and cannot tolerate any pressure on it. I have found the Ecco sandals wonderful (and yes, they are pricey - although travel smith had my favorite pair on sale for $49 recently - probably out of common sizes).
Also, you can probably wear most anything with a Thorlo sock.
