Day 2.
We were awake just before 7 and had packed our suitcases ready for our move to Bay Lake Tower. We have 100 DVC points with our home being SSR. We were so pleased to be able to get a reservation at BLT when we rang in February.
I had booked with luggage services to move our cases the day before. The guy had written my instructions down on a scrappy piece of paper and I was a little wary of leaving our suitcases in the room for transfer.
However, we got a bus from POP to MK just after 8am and on being dropped off at MK we began to make our way to the Contemporary to check in to drop our day bags.
We had to cross over the bus lanes at the MK drop off (because we didnt know the way) and in the middle of a lane, a bus driver stopped and wound down his window. Expecting to be shouted at that we were in the wrong place, I was very surprised that he asked where we were going and when we explained, he said to hop on the bus and he would take us. So Kate and I had the whole bus to ourselves and had a personal service to the Contemporary check in!! This is exactly the sort of thing that keeps us coming back to Disney!
As we left the bus, I made sure to get his name Elliot - and later, when we were at MK, we went in to guest services and wrote a card commending his good service and was assured that this would be added to his record.
We checked in to BLT at 8.45am, expecting to leave our day rucksacks with bell services, only to be told that our room was ready!! Wow within 10 minutes we were in BLT in room 7408.
We had a room on the 4th floor overlooking the lake but to the left on the balcony was MK with Space Mountain clearly visible and the top of the castle peeping above the trees. The studio room was fantastic very clean and comfortable.
Kate had the pull out sofa and I slept in the double bed. The kitchen / bathroom sink are in the same room which is somewhat strange squirting your deodorant or using the hairdryer next to the food preparation area is not ideal but hey we were at BLT, the closest hotel to MK who can complain about that!!!
Kate was very keen to get to MK so we quickly walked the 5 -6 minutes to MK and entered the park just after the opening ceremony. First we went to Splash and it was a complete walk on followed by Big Thunder where we sat at the back again a straight walk on. This was quickly followed by Pirates (which Kate didnt think was as good as Paris or Disneyland) and the Jungle Cruise which was as corny but enjoyable as ever.
We had an ADR at Chef Mickeys for lunch. This was a first for us, and whilst enjoyable, the buffet food was only OK and Im not sure we would rush to go back.
On the way back to BLT we stopped in to the shop at Contemporary to get bread, milk and crisps before crashing in to our beds for a rest. On getting back to our room there was a message to say that our luggage was at bell services - all we had to do was ring and within 10 minutes a bell hop was knocking at the door and we were reunited with our cases. Fantastic service!
About 4.30 we took the monorail being able to take a monorail from our hotel is SO cool!! We looked round the Poly (and checked out the Tambu lounge for the DIS meet two days later) and then the Grand Floridian. We then took the boat back to MK before getting the monorail back to BLT.
We had thought that we would go to the Top of the World lounge to watch Wishes at 9. However our plans were flawed as at 8, whilst lying on our beds in our room, we realised that Wishes was actually at 8 and we were missing it!! We watched Wishes from our room but couldnt find the TV channel with the music which was a shame.
After Wishes had finished we decided to go up to the Top of the World lounge. This means going to the front desk in the lobby of BLT and getting the CM to program the lift to take you to the 16th floor. It was well worth the effort the view is AMAZING. I was sorry to see that it wasnt well used at all at the moment it is only open to DVC members staying on points but I fear that they wont make much money and it will be put to some other use.
Another fairly early night and we slept like tops in the wonderfully comfortable beds at BLT.
