The problem with all these good deals...

...is that there are just TOO MANY! I'm not kidding either, every time I've stocked up on everything I could possibly need, another "good deal" comes knocking on my door. I constantly find myself justifying all these purchases: oh it will save me money in the long run, oh I get 500 MyPoints for it, oh I get a free $20 Amazon promotional certificate, etc.

It's just getting out of control! I've got so many bills, tuition, textbooks, but I just can't seem to stop spending money. I tried cutting up credit cards....and I ordred replacement cards! I gave one card to my parents....but I had already memorized the number!

I really really want to get my finances straight and pay off my debt, it just seems like everytime I actually start to curb my spending and get things under control something comes along and I lose any self control that I have. I definitely do have a knack for finding the best prices, the problem is all these "best prices" do add up. I KNOW that I have little self control when it comes to money and I know that I'm buying things I don't need and can live without. I just don't even know where to start. :confused3

I know what you mean about all of the "deals"! Last night after seeing the thread about the Yankee Candle sale, I shot right over to their website. I was all set to order a ton of candles, just because they were on sale. Luckily, I talked myself out of it, which I have been doing alot of lately. The thing that has worked the best for me is just staying out of stores. It seems every time I am in one, I see something that I "just can't pass up!". I would go to Target on my day off "just to look" and would end up spending $70 or $80 dollars on stuff I didn't even need! (This was like a weekly thing!) So now, I limit myself to just the Grocery store and find I have been spending a ton less money every week, which in turn I have been using to pay off my credit card debt.

Oh just wanted to add, this is nothing against people who post deals! I'm just saying I think I am getting addicted to all these deals...these marketing gurus sure are doing their jobs, that's for sure! I did make one small step today, I decided NOT to continue Napster. I had one of those 7-day trials and as much fun as it was, it would end up being $9.95 a month.

That's kind of what I've been thinking(nothing against the super deal finders here) :goodvibes But if I ran to every good deal I saw posted here or found elsewhere it would no longer be a deal, it would be wasting my money which would be better put in my ING account, so I can go to Disney this year and fix up my kitchen! so I guess being a good budgeteer means knowing what you NEED, and finding deals on that stuff- vs thinking that just b/c somethings cheap, we need to go stock up. I loved the codes a while back for jcpenny and the swimsuit clearance, that was awesome, because I needed a new suit! :rotfl: And, I try never to spend money on"pay just shipping and handling" for items that are just impulse purchases, like"free! just pay 5.95 shipping and handling!" those things aren't free, and the 6.00 will accrue interest with my wonderful ING savings...

Oh,BTW, I used to stock up on every good deal, had so much stuff, I never could keep track of what I had, then went and bought more, spent a ton, and wasted a lot of it! :confused3

Have you read Dave Ramsey's "The Total Money Makeover"? It's really enlightening and may help you get a handle on your debt.

I'm only going for the deals if it's something I would've bought anyway for a birthday or Christmas present. But it does take willpower to say no to all these things.

I doing the same thing. Thanks to all of your posts, I've been able to get much of the shopping for both of my dds b-day & C'mas presents done, as well as their Halloween costumes, but now I need to start saying no. My closet is already jammed w/ presents, if I buy much more in the name of a good deal, we'll need to buy a new house or invest in a storage room ;).

We walked into Target yesterday to look specifically for a table top grill.. didn't find any.. walked out with ----GASP ----- nothing at all!
I was so proud of myself and decided staying at home was just as fun as forking over a bunch of $$ on a "deal".

I still have a ton of HBA stuff from three years ago, jam packed gift closet from last year purchases, too many children's books that I have no shelf space (stacked on the floor in untidy piles) -- so decided to stop getting deals on anything but food that my family will consume within two months time.
This pay period I was able to sock away double of my usual savings, plus extra payment on credit card. :cheer2: yeah me!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This thread was just in time to save me from a Yankee candle impulse buy. :earseek:

Seriously, I am not usually an impulse buyer but I was going to head over to the Yankee candle site after church. This thread made me think twice. After thinking twice, I remembered that as an Elementary teacher I get more candles than I can use as gifts. I, also, already stocked up at the most recent Bath and Body sale so that I have gifts for DD's teachers already. This is what I usually do. Think about buying something and then really consider if I need it. Sometimes I buy and sometimes I don't.

Good luck with getting your spending under control.

I know the feeling.. I did however get in on the Yankee Candle deal only because I am doing a secret pal exchange at work and I got her a candle and I will use the other one.. I almost bought one of those big Bratz dolls the other day when I read a post about it.. My daughter doesnt even like Bratz.. I was just gonna get it "just in case we needed it"! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: because it was such a good deal.. :rotfl: :rotfl: No wonder why I have so much junk in my house..

I only buy what I was going to buy at some point anyway. the costumes came just in time as both kids picked what they wanted to be online and its a great deal. alot of the tips are helpful to me since I like to buy stuff year round and that is why I love this board- you are a wealth of info. My kids are disney freaks and most of their gifts for holidays come from such info I learn here. Other tips I just pass on by since its not something that I would buy normally- like the bratz doll or candles.. thats the beauty of this board- there is something for everyone..

You just never know when you'll really need a giant Bratz doll. I just hate those Bratz emergencies. ;)

I've had the same thoughts.

OOOhhh, I've been so tempted. But, my money has stayed in my pocket. The only thing that I bought this whole weekend was a picture frame for a very good friend of mine. Her dog was in an accident and died last night. She mentioned that she was looking at a frame just the other day and how she wished that she bought it so that she could put a picture of Ruby in it. Money well spent. I can't believe how much money I've spent without giving much thought to it. You have all made me so accountable. I am on my way to a debt free life. Good luck to everyone else as well. I too have been guilty of buying things because they are on clearance. I still have some in my closet and in my attic. I am trying really hard to just STAY OUT OF THE STORES. If there is a clearance and I don't know about it - it won't get me. HA, HA. :wizard:
