Interesting movie starring Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale and Scarlett Johanson and the wonderful Michael Caine. I do not want to tell too much about the movie, it is set in Victorian England and is the story of two magicians who become competitive with each other and to what extremes they take their obsessions...

I actually went to see it since I know my DH loves magic, and I love Victoriana so we had the best of both worlds.. I think it is worth seeing, the intrigue and "magic" are very well presented and movie is definitely one not to be missed if you like these sort of period pieces....Both leading actors did a great job and Ms Johanson as their love interest does a decent job as well, but of course Michael Caine steals the show, you gotta love him.

Not quite sure how to word this, but did you find the movie to be on the freaky side? Like a horror/suspense/paranormal movie, sort of. Or more like just two competing magicians? My DH doesn't like horror/suspense/paranormal movies and this one looks intriguing to me. Just curious as to whether this would be one I could watch with him or not.

Man, just the commercials creped me out. I would like to know the answer to taziket's question, too.

Will be seeing this real soon. Huge fan of the director and actors in this one.

I am totally there! Christian Bale, MEOW!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I think this looks really interesting. Glad to hear you liked it. I might actually make it to the theatre for this one.

I'd like to know this too since it will make a difference in whether dh and I will both see it or not.

I just walked downstairs to ask my DH your questions.....he said he did not think it would qualify as horror or paranormal, but suspenseful yes.....it was a little strange though and I cannot tell how because if I did I would give away the plot.....it did have one of those surprise endings where when you add up everything that happens in the movie, you think I should have seen this coming.. Actually, my DH figured it out and I was almost there, but not quite.. Maybe it was a tad weird.....I enjoyed it and would be curious to see what others think..

How about the kids? I can't get away to see a movie with out mine, they're 9 & 11 I'm not even sure of the rating.

It is PG-13 and I am not so sure I would take kids.......definitely not little ones.. it is a little dark with that whole Victorian kind of thing.

I really want to see this, which means I'll probably have to wait till it comes to the movie channels. See I'm such a bad mom that the only movies I wind up seeing in the theater are the ones my kids want to see. (there's a thread here about the less than perfect parents club ;) )

Saw it yesterday. I thought it was pretty good, yet hard to follow and a lot to think about at times...which makes it good. My brother figured out the "twist" pretty quickly so he said that kind of ruined it for him, but he still liked it. The twist is pretty obvious when you figure it out so some people might not like it as well if they can figure it out early.

All I have to say is that Hugh with his shirt off is pure yumminess!

dh and i just saw this yesterday and we both really liked it. :)

DH and I saw this yesterday too -- we really liked it! It had us talking for a good while afterwards. :thumbsup2

I wouldn't classify it as a supernatural movie, but there was an element of the supernatural to it.

Will someone who seen this movie please PM me...I have a few questions about the movie that I dont want to ask here cause they might be spoilers

i agree, i think it's a great movie! one of the best ones i've seen in a while. and the ENDING was so crazy!

although, i am getting a little sick of seeing Scarlett Johansen in EVERYTHING, but none the less it was still good.

I saw this yesterday and absolutely loved it.
My fiance and I talked about it for around a half hour afterwards thinking of different scenarios and asnwering questions we both had. I like movies like that, it really made us intriqued. I have to admit the timelines jumps were what brought my questions on but finally it all came into place. I really enjoyed it. I am such a wimp when it comes to scary movies and so I was skeptical I might be freaked by this one, but I was totally fine. Not really scary at all, just intense.

Saw it last night. Very good movie.

I thought the story was great, especially them including a little bit of real life history, and then adding some fictional elements that fit the story.

And IMO it's not supernatural, it's more like a Victorian period piece with a small science fiction element.

Thought the real life history part was really cool and was blown away when reading the credits and realized that was David Bowie as Nikola Tesla. I hadn't read up much before the movie so wasn't aware he was in it.

Can't wait to see it again so I can get a few things straightened out in my head. LOL
