The possibility of new resort hotels at Universal Orlando

With only 2500 rooms currently available on resort (1000 RPR, 750 each for PBH and HRH) do you think that with the new success of WWoHP it is now possible that Universal might need to build a 4th resort hotel?

Does anybody know what the occupancy levels are for the current hotels? I would imagine they must be 70%+ full throughout most of the year (and near 100% capacity at premium periods, surely?). I think a 2nd 'budget' hotel would go nicely on the RPR side of the resort.

But is there even any space left at Universal Orlando to build a new hotel?

I definitely am thinking along the same lines as you are. Disney has many more resorts to stay in than Universal. With the success of WWoHP I would think they might need to plan on making a new hotel, maybe a Potter themed one? Wow, that would get soooooooooooooooooooo much business. But I definitely agree with you on the fact that they need another hotel that is affordable.

There is always the possibility. Here is the proposed map from 1993 before ground broke. The had 5 hotels on the map.

The map was cool. Love it when things like that surface on threads.
Would love to know what theme might be.
Just a question, are the existing hotels selling out? I would think that would affect any decision to build a new hotel. And the partner hotels were used to provide less expensive accommodations but still hook people in with the HP package?

They are still offering discounts on the hotels, so I would imagine that they aren't selling out. Sure, there are times when they do, but mostly there is still some kind of availability.

Thanks Bluer101. That's a great insightful map! :thumbsup2

But does anyone know if the proposed locations for those 2 other hotels west of the Royal Pacific are still tenable for use? Has anything else ever been built there which would obviously prohibit the building of a new hotel in the future?

From my stay at RPR last summer, I thought there was a road opposite the RPR docking station and ornamental biplane but I never checked it all out properly.

It would be great to have an Arabic or Malaysian or Bavarian resort. Indian? Chinese? Something based on Peruvian Inca civilisation? The possibilities are endless.

The land is still all there. But the map posted is what was first visioned and proposed in 1993. As you can see even City Walk and IOA are different that whats there today. I'm sure the land is still in the backs of their minds.

I personally like the exclusivity of the current set-up. Pay a little more, get special privileges and a great location. I think it is very rare that you can't get a room, especially if your planning ahead. I don't see them buliding another hotel for the bargain hunters. If they build it will be in the same price range as the current ones.

My hubby and I were just talking about this and thought Wow that would be the coolest thing ever! I would so stay there!

Yes..Disney has many more resorts, but they do NOT offer express access for those staying on site. I would not want to lose that perk which may happen if there are too many on site rooms available.
