The only "modification" that we could figure out was they didn't do the scene with the airplane, though for the life of me I can't remember what they replaced it with or if it was just a shorter show. Either way, it was a good time!
As we left the area we all agreed we were ready for lunch.. and a nap! We started asking the kids what they were in the mood for for lunch, DS4 adamant that he wants a pb&j. I remembered this being a struggle last trip with the kids, so I quickly scoured every QS location's menu and could not find a single one that offered those little uncrustables. Say what?! In a kids theme park I can't get my hands on a pb&j?! The most universal of all kids lunches?!? I was really craving ABC Commissary's buffalo grilled cheese but we were obviously closest to Backlot Express so Matt & I split up - him & DD5 went to ABC Commissary and DS4 and I went in to Backlot Express. I asked a CM near the door if they had pb&j "off the menu" and she said she thought she did- yay! She quick called her supervisor to confirm, so we stood there and waited for confirmation. The supervisor confirmed they DID have them but... it wouldn't be a kids meal, i.e. we wouldn't be able to get any sides or drinks or anything. Weird and a bit of a bummer but oh well- desperate times call for desperate measures! So we got in line.
We made it to the cashier who was an older southern lady and was SO stinking sweet. I explained what the supervisor had said about the pb&j and she gave me a wink, said "hang on a second", worked some kind of magic and asked what sides & drinks DS4 wanted. Wow! Even more pixie dust for us!! She was so nice & I wish I had gotten her name & done a Cast Compliment.
After we waited for our food, I once again realized how big of a dingbat I am as they started loading the tray with DS4's pb&j (with sides of apple slices & french fries + milk) and the adult chicken strip meal I ordered for Matt & DD5 to share.... + the included beer (another Goose Island IPA), obviously. I looked at the tray. I looked at DS4. I looked at the ten billion people all elbowing each other nearby and thought "how the heck am I going to get this from Backlot Express to ABC Commissary without spilling any of the food or beer AND without losing DS4?!?
So I took a deep breath, chugged a bit of Matt's beer to decrease the risk of it sloshing & spilling, told DS4 to hold on to my skirt and DO NOT LET GO, and hoped for the best.
Thankfully, after a painfully slow walk with extreme care not to spill a drop of beer, DS4 & I made it to ABC Commissary without spilling anything- whew! Matt & DD5 had found us a table and so I quickly dropped off their food and went to join the Mobile Order line for my buffalo chicken grilled cheese. I don't remember why I ordered the margarita (maybe they didn't have any beer I liked?) but alas, my meal was accompanied by a watermelon margarita which was good but tart! Timestamp on the photo below is 2:15 so it was definitely a late lunch- we were all starving so we tore into our food pretty quickly.
Sadly this time my buffalo chicken grilled cheese sandwich wasn't NEARLY as good as I remembered it being... Not sure if it was a one-off or what, but either way it was a bit of a bummer! As we ate we did some people watching and was surprised at the number of people filling their resort mugs with the pop (can you tell I'm from MN?) from the pop-machines. Sigh- naughty rule breakers, you!!! Matt and I also commented on the number of people who left their disgusting food remnants/mess all over their table. Why is it so hard to clean up after yourself?!
..and then I noticed this sign on the napkin holders on all of the tables:
Doh! How had I never ever noticed that before??!?!? We commented to each other how bizarre it is that Disney/ABC Commissary would choose to have this request, but maybe they figure people are going to do it anyway so why not? Or maybe people make the garbage/condiment area a total disaster so it's easier for them to just clean up the garbage themselves? Who knows.
It was about 2:45 when we left our table - of course cleaning up everything as well as we could and neatly stacking it all on our tray for easier cleanup for our hard working CMs! Matt had been checking the radar and we knew the rain was on its way, so we made a quick decision to return to Star Wars launch bay in an attempt to get the kids to nap in the stroller as well as wait out the rain- the adults swapping their tennis shoes for the sandals and digging out everyone's rain gear so it would be ready when the rain came and we were ready to head back outside. We made it inside the Launch Bay, but the kids were tossing & turning in their reclined stroller seats and not really napping so we decided to ditch our plan and just make our way toward Andy's Backyard since our 3:20pm LL for SDD was approaching. Because this is how it always goes, the rain didn't start until we were outside and passing the giant Woody at the entrance to the Toy Story area where of course we had no coverage from the rain.. nor does really anywhere inside Toy Story land at all! So we turned around and it was REALLY coming down- we and about 50 other people all sought refuge under the covered awning of the bathrooms just across from Walt Disney Presents, perpendicular to the Joffrey's/Market stands. We all were huddled together but still trying to give each other space, and unfortunately the stroller (which did have the rain cover on it, but it doesn't cover the whole entire thing) was stuck outside in the rain since people didn't want to huddle in together more. I advised DS4 to try to keep his foot inside as much as he can, since he had the AirTag on his sandal strap. The kids were getting whiney sitting there alone in the torrential downpour, and as soon as people left the covered area we tried to keep pushing ourselves more inward until finally we were all covered together and we could open up the stroller & let the kids breathe a bit.
Eventually the rain slowed down enough to where we agreed to let the kids play, they had sandals & rain jackets after all so why not let them play?! So the adults stayed covered and the kids splashed in some nearby puddles. All in all the rain was maybe 30 minutes long, so not terrible but I kept waiting and waiting for our Slinky Dog LL to turn into an "anytime" pass... but nope! It must never have closed down, which is crazy to think about people going on that ride in that torrential downpour! We eventually left the covered area when it was still raining but at least manageable to walk through, making our way toward Slinky around 3:50.
As soon as we had all scanned in to the second touchpoint, I made another LL for Millenium Falcon Smugglers Run, though I didn't make a note of what time I made it for.. whoops.
Slinky was a blast as usual, though both kids were Mike Wazowski'd for the ride photo --
Double whoops! On our way toward Rock N Rollercoaster (our next LL), we let the kids talk us into joining the long line to meet Buzz. The CM had been warning us that we may not make it depending on how long it takes since Buzz had to leave on a mission, so we were sure to warn the kids that they may not get to meet him. Thankfully it ended up working out, and we had a great exchange with Buzz! Before it was our turn, the green army men band had been marching by and Buzz stopped and did quite the butt-shaking dance move as he danced along to the beat, which I got a great video of & made us all laugh super hard. I had never seen Buzz shake his booty before!!!
When it was our turn to meet him, DS4 asked "DO YOU HAVE ANY MISSIONS?!?!?!?" which Buzz nodded emphatically and made a "Z" with his pointer finger so I'm guessing he meant yes, he had to go fight Zurg. Buzz held out his hand to give DS4 a high five (but the "low five") version and kept pulling his hand away as if to say "too slow!", doing that over and over until DS4 was laughing really hard. It was adorable! Then when it was time for the CM to take the kids photos with Buzz, he kept using his giant hand to cover DD5's face. This was a spicy Buzz, that's for sure!!
