Day 2 – Sunday August 15

We set off from the Etap just after 7 and it seemed no time at all before we were at the HNY. It was raining heavily and it continued to rain throughout the whole day, without even 2 minutes of respite, or any reduction in the downpour.

We checked in, got H’s park ticket (D and I have APs) then set off through the Village.

The Park had just opened for EMH but there didn’t seem to be many people around.

We went on Buzz 3 times in a row – my scores were awful but the other 2 seemed happy with what they got. H and D then went on Space Mountain twice with no queuing involved.

We went into Fantasyland and were not surprised to see Dumbo was not running but Pinocchio was open. We went on Peter Pan first and then Pinocchio – this was our only Pinocchio ride of the trip. Even later on in the evenings when Snow White was a walk-on, Pinocchio was always busy. Can’t see why it is so much more popular than Snow White – is it because little ones are frightened of SW, I wonder. :confused3

Anyway, we were now ready for a drink, so we went to Salon Mickey. It was full (first time that has happened to me) but they invited us in out of the rain to wait in the lobby and we got a seat within about 5 minutes.

We went from here to the Studios – today was out first chance to see Toy Story Playland with the AP preview at 10.30. In the meantime, there was no queue for Flying Carpets so we went on that followed by a walk on at Rock n Roller Coaster.

Time for the preview – we were actually quite excited to be seeing a whole new land – it is really very impressive in terms of theming. All fences appear to be made of children’s construction kits, a bench is a giant piece of Brio, there is a huge ball lying in the ‘grass’ – it does have the appearance of a child’s garden. I really like it.

H and D tried the Parachute Drop first, which they said was great fun. The queuing area is all in military green with lots of plastic soldiers around.

The instructions at the beginning say (think American military voice) “ You will supervise you children. You will not put your hands, arms or legs out side of the ride. You will not run” answered by the soldiers chanting “Sir, yessir”

Unfortunately Slinky wasn’t running – there were lots of technical bods standing looking at it – but RC Racer was working. H was a bit apprehensive about this but decided to give it a go. Anybody who has, or had, a boy who likes cars and garages will smile at the queuing area of this ride. It has a ‘Hot Wheels’ toy garage feel – even down to some of the ‘stickers’ on the petrol pumps. The path is a Scalextric track. The ride itself was great fun, apparently – no, of course I didn’t go on!

I was told that at the topmost point of the ride there is a moment of weightlessness before you begin the downward swoop - very enjoyable. So, I’m told.

We spent a bit more time having a look round before going over to Stitch Live. I did take a lot more photos of TSPL later in the trip - enough that you may get bored.

After this we went to the Village to buy our tickets for BBWWS for Monday night. D was free at she has an AP and it is her birthday this month – saving €48. After browsing a bit in the shops, it was time for our meal at the Steakhouse for Sunday Brunch.

We enjoyed the food, the champagne, wine, juice etc but it did seem there were fewer things to choose from. Certainly there were fewer characters around – only 3 in total in 90 minutes. It was a nice lunch but not as nice as we have had there before.

It was just after 3 so we were able to go and collect our room key. We were on the 3rd floor, on the same side of the hotel as the swimming pool. After we unpacked D went swimming, H went to buy water and a voltage adaptor (oops) and then went to the Sports Bar to watch the Liverpool and Arsenal match. I had a doze of course. When D had finished swimming we went and met up with H.

Back in the Park we found everywhere was really quiet as the weather had chased most people away. We trooped around doing walk-ons – POTC, Indiana Jones X2, POTC again where we met Captain Jack Sparrow,

Snow White X2 IASW and then BTM. We then went on Phantom Manor and BTM again.

Here is BTM in the rain, at dusk.

We decided not to hang around to see if the fireworks would be on, but instead to finish the day as we started it – with a walk-on at Buzz. I lost again!

It was gone 10 o’clock so we dripped our way back to the HNY and went to our room to change into dry clothes. Ahhh, bliss. :cloud9: We went to the shop to buy wi-fi time (3 hours for €10) and then to the bar. H had a coffee, D had a Wildlife cocktail and I had a Baileys and hot chocolate – yummy. After this we were ready for bed.

Loving your trip report so far, and very excited by TSPL pictures. I definitely won't be bored I want to see them all.
Well done for making the most of the wet weather....I actually thought as I was reading your TR that it would be great to go in bad weather like that and have the parks to yourselves :rotfl:
Yes I'm a Disney nutter and a true Scot
Looking forward to the next installment!

what a great first day besides the rain. you seemed to get loads done. cant wait for more

TSPL looks amazing! Such a shame about the Steakhouse, I was looking forward to trying this. Can you recall how much the brunch was? I cannot find a price anywhere. :)

Sorry it took so long to notice the question. I can't remember the exact price of Brunch - it was either €34 or €39. Not very helpful, I know. Last year when Dtr was only 11, I seem to remember the child price was really good - like only €10.

Thanks, just having an idea is good, especially if the child price is cheap. :goodvibes
