Just to show that Disney is for EVERYONE, I thought I would post a short report on our recent trip to WDW (4/9 - 4/12/08). We are retired and live in central Florida, so we have annual passes and visit often. Since we do, we can take it easy and just "enjoy". We are DVC members, so we stayed this time at the Beach Club Villas. This makes it so easy to walk to EPCOT.
We arrived in the mid-afternoon on Wednesday and surprisingly, our room was ready. We had a one-bedroom near the elevator, overlooking the pool (#408). After we put some things away, we wandered over to EPCOT. We were at the American pavilion minutes before the Voices of Liberty were about to perform, so we went in to listen, as we always enjoy this group. We then walked right into the restaurant in Germany for an early dinner - no reservation was needed. We enjoy the buffet here and the show is entertaining. After dinner, we were just in time to listen to the "Flower Power" concert - Herman's Hermits were performing - perfect for us "oldies" - we knew all the words!
We enjoyed all the beautiful floral arrangements throughout EPCOT for the Flower Festival.
The next day we spent some time at EPCOT and some time at the Magic Kingdom. Our favorite ride at EPCOT is "Soaring" and since we took our time getting there in the morning, the stand-by line was at 110 minutes, so we got a Fast Pass to be used later that afternoon and after a couple of other attractions, went to MK. Our favorite ride there is Buzz Lightyear and we were able to ride the stand-by line with only a 20 minute wait and then once again with a Fast Pass. We left MK in the late-afternoon and went back to EPCOT. We rode Spaceship Earth since it was closed in the morning and liked the new changes. We had dinner at Le Cellier in Canada. The last couple of trips, we haven't been able to eat there - it is so popular, so I actually planned this trip around getting a reservation. Unfortunately, we were VERY DISAPPOINTED. My husband fared better than I. He ordered the chedder cheese soup and the salmon, both which were good. I on the other hand order the caesar salad which was just "OK" - and much too large for a "starter". I ordered the prime rib as my entree and when it was served, I was surprised to see that they had pepper liberally sprinkled over the meat. Pepper is not one of my favorite spices, and having eaten prime rib many times and never having it served like this (and not seeing that description on the menu), I asked if they could get me another one without the pepper. They were glad to do that, but the second one was almost 1/2 fat. I realize that prime rib is a "fatty" meat, but you don't usually find a 3" diameter of solid fat in the middle of the slice. So - I told them that I was disappointed with that, and they asked if I would like to order something different, so I ordered the steak (New York strip). At $34.95 for this steak, I was expecting it to be wonderful -- but -- it was rather chewy and full of gristle. Needless to say, we won't hurry back here any time soon.
The next day we went back to the Magic Kingdom, enjoying many attractions, especially my husband's favorite, the Haunted Mansion. We also enjoyed lunch at Casey's. We went back to EPCOT later in the day and after enjoying the movie in the French pavilion, we had our dinner outside on a little table by the French bakery - quiche and pastry - yummy!
Since the weather was so warm on Saturday, we decided to skip the parks and after we checked out of our room, we drove over to Downtown Disney to do a little shopping. We were disappointed that Ghiradelli's Ice Cream shop was closed for remodeling - so we had smoothies by the water and also listened to a great group from a school in Minnesota that was peforming on the outside stage.
All in all, we had another fun trip. Our next trip is planned for October when the Food and Wine Festival is held.
