Oh no, you are not alone! Ketchup is a staple on our breakfast table. I don't think DH would know what ot do with an egg if it wasn't topped with it.

I guess it's just Alan that thinks it's wierd! I tell him he's really one to talk. He won't eat spaghetti unless I put raisins in the sauce. Now that's wierd!

Guys, I have 12 people coming tomorrow and have 2 tables being set. Is it OK if I do a buffet or is that tacky? I plan on having the tables set but don't want to have 4 platters of turkey, etc. so was thinking of serving buffet. It will also be less clutter on the table.

I need your opinions please.

I would definitely do a buffet. That's usually how we do it when we have more than 6 people for dinner. There's nothing tacky about it at all. I figure, it leaves more room on the table, and people don't feel so claustrophobic.

Morning everyone!

I have a request. Has Glynis' Derby Pie recipe been posted? Search isn't cooperating this morning, & I haven't been able to spot it in our LONG list that Lindsay so diligently maintains.

UGH! I dread having to hit the grocery store this late in the game, but need to bring a last minute dessert. I vaguely remember a neighbors' recipe for this same pie, but need confirmation to make sure I have the ingredients on hand. Any help?

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone! Whether it's with a houseful of extended family & friends, or a cozy gathering of 2 or 3, I hope it's special.

Yes, it's posted, but I don't know the exact page number. If you can't find it, PM me, and I'll send it to you.

Thank you all for your info on the buffet. I have alot of small boxes, maybe I will take Becky's advice and do different heights...I will make sure they are sturdy!!! ;)

Gretchen, Welcome to Whiskey Tango my friend!

Stuffing and turnips are done, now boiling yams for my candied sweet potatoes. I made too much stuffing I think but hey, I LOVE stuffing!!!

No such thing as too much stuffing!!!

If you have any leftover, use it as a crust for a turkey pie.

Looks like everyone is off getting ready for Thanksgiving. I've got 3 pies done, 1 in the oven, and still have the pecan pie to make. I think I'm in good shape as I still have 4 hours!!! Thought I'd check in with y'all.

Hope you are all having a great holiday! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! This year I'm especially thankful for my new "family". Thanks for allowing me to belong!

Just stopping by to wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving. I've made the dressing, corn casserole, squash casserole, the herb butter for the turkey, cranberry sauce, and the mystery pecan pie is in the oven. Later this evening, I'm making sugar pecans just to snack on. I'll be up early in the morning to get the turkey going.

Take care, my friends, and have a peaceful day!

We are going to my ILs tonight (read as "eating as PBJ in hiding then going to eat at ILs"), hee hee!

WFD at your house?

ETA: You guys, I'm so nervous. I have an odd rash on my arm and I have no idea what it is. It seems to have gotten bigger and redder since yesterday. Since MRSA is rampant around here, I am going to the walk-in clinic to get it checked out. Better be safe than sorry.
Good luck, hope it's not anything too serious.

We're having something really simple tonight. Just radiatore pasta with meatsauce and garlic bread. I'm way to busy preparing for tomorrow to cook anything super exciting!

BabyPigletWelcome

Lindsay I hope the rash is nothing to serious. I doubt it is MRSA my cousin has it. It is open oozing would like a boil. Sorry to be so descriptive. He has had this infection on and off for a couple of years.

Yes I too am thankful for all of you. You all have made what sometimes is a sad time a joyous if not bearable time of year.

We are having Lasagna with garlic bread for dinner.

Off to start my pies for tomorrow.

Well... I ended up making baked potato, asparagus and baked haddock with cracker crumbs for dinner... so much for take out. My son really loves haddock and I wanted to prepare it some way other than a chowder... he said, "This is really good Mom!" Worth every bit of time and effort!

I think I'll make my pie in the morning.... I'm kinda tired... also I don't want the crust to sog up on me.

I am so impressed with all of you who cook dinner the night before a holiday! My family is on their own, right now Marisa is "testing" the sausage and apple stuffing, and Buddy will finish the ham by making a few sandwiches. I have no idea what anyone else will have, Kady went to McDonalds so she is set :thumbsup2

Kathy- I saw Paula Dean making your Mystery Pecan Pie today. She said a friend for New Orleans gave her the recipe, and now I see Ugadog is making it. I have got to make that one next

Glynis- Marisa says "Glynis Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" when I told her that you suggested the stuffing as a topper for a pot pie. Erica said "Glynis is the best!"

Well I am done for the night. I made two types of stuffing, plain celery and onion, and sausage and apple; mashed turnips and carrots with maple and nutmeg; a cranberry apple jello salad and I cleaned and seasoned my turkey.
I made an apple cake with brown butter frosting; pumpkin pie squares; chocolate truffle pie; Glynis's pecan pie; Hello Dolly Pie (Kady made this) "A no crust apple pie, and I baked a pumpkin pie from Mrs Smith. No one will eat my pumpkin pie.

Tomorrow I need to make the pumpkin casserole that I saw on one of the Thanksgiving threads. I have never made this so I hope it is good, there is grumbling because I am not making the sweet potato gratin. We will also have corn and a green veggie. I have not decided if I want to steam broccoli or if I just want to have peas. My Sis IL is bringing light appetizers and Buddy's cousin is bringing the rolls and breads and a Hawaiian cake.

If I miss anyone have a great Thanksgiving and be safe.

Sounds like you are ready! How did your Hello Dolly pie turn out? My Katie had a great time making hers. I love that it's so simple. Even the measuring is so basic, it's practically foolproof.

We do this with the leftovers: I make a "crust" out of leftover stuffing, fill it with turkey, gravy, veggies, and top it with any leftover mashed potatoes. Just bake until it's all heated through. Yummy!!!

It seemed to come out really good! I used to make Hello Dolly bars for my Mom so I enjoyed watching Kady make this. I was a little blue when I made the sausage and apple stuffing. She loved any kind of stuffing but this was one of her favorites.

the mystery pecan pie is in the oven.

I hope you enjoy it, and a very Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Are you serious???? I've had that pecan pie recipe for at least 20 years and can't remember where it came from and now Paula's got it!!!!:lmao:

Sounds like you have had a really busy day, relax now my friend and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I'm done for today, since it's only the two of us all I did tonight was the mirliton & shrimp casserole and the sweet potato casserole.

I'd like to say how thankful I am for all of you here. You guys have been with me through some of the worst times of my life and honestly I don't think I could have gotten through it without your support. Hate to get all mushy on y'all but you are my family and I love all of you. May you all have a safe and very Happy Thanksgiving!:grouphug:

Evening all--I see we have all had busy days getting ready for the feasts tomorrow.
I had P/T in the morning then came home and made lemon Meringue and choc cream with grahm crust for pies and then I made white, wheat and oatmeal dinner rolls. I will make the squash in the morning but I have the butter, brownsugar, maple syrup sauce ready to go into it.
(I also have the CANS of cranberry as this is my boys favorite way to have it..no one else cares for it in any form, so I don't bother to make it fancy anymore)
We are going to the outlawz for dinner, and this year it will just be us and my grandmother and Kris'. It is to much for the old ladies to have the hub bub of all the families and kids. My grandmother will go home a bit after dinner and Kris grandmother will go back to her room to rest. Later that night all the rest of the family comes up for desserts. It used to be we went to Kris (other) grandmothers for what we called "pie" night as she made 25+ pies and that we saw all who couldn't get together and we weren't stuffed from dinner. His grandmother can't cook like that anymore,o we all just bring a dessert but it is still called pie night, :)

I see we have a new member...Welcome baby piglet! Post often and jump into the conversations.

I hope that you all have the most wonderful peace filled day tomorrow.....one thing I know I am thankful for this year is all of you!! Thank you for your friendship, and being a part of my family.
Enjoy your day!!

Ok my appetizers are made for tomarrow Alex made a black bean dip and I made a tastefully simple dip with artichokes. The last of the pies are in the oven and kitchen is back to normal.:cool1: Now I'm retreating to the couch to collapse.

I would love to get some color going, but I'm so afraid I'll pick the wrong colors, and things could get ugly! I need HELP!!!

I always use the Benjamin Moore website. They have a feature where you can paint rooms and experiment with colors. If you're really ambitious, you can load your own room photos, but they have some on the site that you can use to get the right idea.

I have an odd rash on my arm and I have no idea what it is. It seems to have gotten bigger and redder since yesterday. Since MRSA is rampant around here, I am going to the walk-in clinic to get it checked out. Better be safe than sorry.

I hope you are okay! I am glad to hear your solo Sunday went well.

DH has a twin bro who live in Houston, and his wife just had a baby a couple months ago. This will be the first time for us to meet her. So excited to get my baby fix!

That's so great. Have a wonderful time!

Is it OK if I do a buffet or is that tacky?

As everyone else has said, it's not tacky. It is much easier to have a separate place set up with the food with that many people than try to cram all the dishes on to the main table.

Wow! You had a busy day! I hope you are taking a couple hours to relax tonight.

I made cheddar/beer soup, salad and rolls tonight. Tomorrow we go to my mom's, and she does almost all the cooking, so it's an easy holiday for me.

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

Thank you soooooooo much!
Funny, I used to love working this time of the year as a cashier @ the local grocery store because we stayed so busy. Now that I have to be on the other end, I'm not loving standing in line!

Glad to help. I'm sorry you had to fight the store today. Every store I passed had a FULL parking lot. I hate shopping just before a holiday. I hope it worked out well for you.

Gretchen, Welcome to Whiskey Tango my friend!

Stuffing and turnips are done, now boiling yams for my candied sweet potatoes. I made too much stuffing I think but hey, I LOVE stuffing!!!

Thanks for the welcome. It looks like I'm in good company. :goodvibes

And BTW, I second the opinion on the stuffing. There is no such thing as too much. I could eat it cold the next day. Gross, I know but I figure weird food issues is a theme today.

Looks like everyone is off getting ready for Thanksgiving. I've got 3 pies done, 1 in the oven, and still have the pecan pie to make. I think I'm in good shape as I still have 4 hours!!! Thought I'd check in with y'all.

The eggnog pie looks good. If I get the energy, I may try to make one for my brother for Christmas. He loves egg nog and his beautiful wife can't cook.

Just stopping by to wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving. Melanie, I'm making your drunk dawgs tomorrow as part of the adult appetizers for the Thanksgiving after party. Your menu sounds wonderful, btw. What do you put in your herb butter?

Good luck, hope it's not anything too serious.

We're having something really simple tonight. Just radiatore pasta with meatsauce and garlic bread. I'm way to busy preparing for tomorrow to cook anything super exciting!

Sorry I didn't welcome you earlier. :flower3: Glad to have you here.

It seemed to come out really good! I used to make Hello Dolly bars for my Mom so I enjoyed watching Kady make this. I was a little blue when I made the sausage and apple stuffing. She loved any kind of stuffing but this was one of her favorites.

 Nancy, I was just thinking of you and Kathy on my drive home tonight. I'm lucky enough to still have both of my parents and cannot imagine how difficult the holidays would be without one or both of them. I'll be thinking of both of you tomorrow.

(I also have the CANS of cranberry as this is my boys favorite way to have it..no one else cares for it in any form, so I don't bother to make it fancy anymore)

My brother in law is the same way! He won't touch the cranberry sauce unless he can see the lines where it was in the can.

Good luck at the outlaws. May I suggest alcohol?

I'm with you Janice. I'm sitting at my computer, shoes kicked off, trying to unwind enough to go to bed.

Has the snow storm hit you yet? One of my co-workers was flying into Midway today to see her daughter and she was saying that a storm was coming. Although to a southerner, any snow at all is a snow storm.

I also wanted to say how very thankful I am for all of you. I can't tell you how much all of your support during the rough spots this year has meant to me, especially through the time of Kenny's father's death. You have all made me feel welcomed into this circle of friends and I feel truly blessed.

Happy Thanksgiving friends.

Gretchen

Wooie, so glad all that pre-day cooking is over. I've been in the kitchen all day but I feel like I barely got anything done!

Anyways, I'm exhausted and I have to get up super early to start cooking again, so it's goodnight. =)

And thanks everyone so much for welcoming me. You all sound like a great group.

P.S. Lindsay, I hope your arm turns out to be okay.

Hi All!

Thank you for your input on the buffet.

I was busy all day too (finished with a couple Cosmos ;) ) and hit the bed and fell right out then my neighbor called and needed to borrow sugar at 10pm, now I can't fall back to sleep.

I would like to wish you all a happy and healthy holiday and let you know that I am truly thankful for your friendship.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Due to some family drama, my husband and I quietly bowed out of the usual Thanksgiving dinner this year.(long story, if you want details let me know) Instead, we are going to spend it with my dad. Recently divorced he has no one to spend it with. He wants to go out, so that's what we are going to do.

WFD at your house?

ETA: 2 things:

1. My rash turned out to be a bite or an irritation of some kind. I was given some cream (don't ask me, can't pronounce it, hee hee!). No worries!

2. Oh my. Dinner at the ILs last night. For those of you who don't know, my MIL is not a very good cook. Add to the fact that she had surgery the week we came back from WDW (she had a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, one of her implants was leaking and she had it replaced). We had originally decided to go out, but a neighbor brought her a huge honeyham so she decided she could throw something together. She refused my help, just told me to bring dessert, which my sweet FIL had THREE helpings of. :)

Anyway, ham was ok. A little fatty. Green beans and potatoes (together) were ok except zero salt was added and there is NEVER a salt and pepper shaker on the table. *shudder* The dressing was Stove-top (don't judge me, I love the stuff), and corn, again with no salt.

So except for the ham and stove-top, it was a pretty bland dinner. Whew-boy. Dessert came out and you'd think no one had just had a meal before, hee hee. My FIL LOOOOOOOOOOVES the pumpkin gooey butter cake, so I make it for him every opportunity I can. Don't get me wrong, I love my ILs, it's just the food kills me sometimes.

Thanks for letting me vent about it :)
