Since hubby has an evening shift and dd is out of school for Labor Day, we will have a big lunch. I have a pork loin in the crockpot, baked potatoes with butter and sour cream, salad, grilled corn on the cob, and some type of dessert. Haven't decided yet. I better get crackin'.

I'm leaning towards eating early today, if I can talk DH into it. We are grilling. I am making an appetizer of grilled peel-and-eat colossal shrimp with garlic-tabasco butter. Mains are skewers of grilled fresh mozzarealla and bread with cherry tomatoes, red onions, and a pesto vinagrette, and then this recipe:

Grilled chicken and sausage with peaches, peppers, and black olive vinagrette (recipe from Chris Schlesinger)

1/3 cup olive oil
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1 tsp. minced garlic
1/4 cup pitted and chopped kalamata olives
salt and pepper to taste
2 firm but ripe peaches, pitted and chopped into eight chunks each
1 cup flat parsely. rinsed and dried
2 lbs. boneless skin-on chicken breasts
1 lb. hot italian sausage
2 red bell peppers, halved and seeded
1 red onion, peeled and sliced thickly
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/2 lb. thinly shaved pecorino cheese

Whick together the olive oil, vinegar, garlic, black olives and salt and pepper to taste. Stir in the peaches and parsely and set aside.

Season the chicken with salt and pepper and grill until just opaque throughout. Grill the sausages until browned and cooked through. When the meats are done, cut them into chunks and toss them with the peach mixture.

Coat the vegetables with the oil and grill until well browned-about 3 minutes per side. Cut into chunks and toss with the peaches and meat (if your grill is big enough, grill everything at the same time)

Toss everything together until well coated with the dressing. Top with the pecorino and serve.

Serves 4-6.

Well we have tons of leftovers from yesterday's grilling, but it's Monday in New Orleans and yall know what that means - a pot of beans are cooking on the stove. Since the soaps aren't on TV today, I'm going to finally get to look at the recipes on this thread!!!

I'm thinking meatloaf..Mac and Cheese made with Gruyere cheese and Spinach with wine, garlic and sun dried tomatoes

This afternoon was a BBQ in celebration of the life of a 22 year old who just died of leukemia. He was one of our Scouts a few years ago. It was actually very lovely. We told lots of stories and laughed a lot.

Tonight we went with my mom to Red Robin. She wanted to catch up with our DS who just started college the other day.

Tomorrow morning we're going to visit DH's parents and let them do the same. And we'll be back home for dinner. We have steak, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, watermelon and slaw planned. It'll be a feast! My sweet and sour slaw is to die for!

I'm also making DH throw some burgers on the grill. He leaves for New York on Tuesday, so I figure I'll pop them in the freezer and have a couple of good meals for nights when DD and I don't want to cook. :thumbsup2

I'd love the recipe for the sweet and sour slaw, if you don't mind sharing it? I love anything sweet and sour!

Bone-in chicken breasts in the crockpot with herbes de Provence under the skin, stuffing and green beans/ probably a salad to start.

Tonight I am experimenting and making an attempt to prepare us sweet and sour chicken. I will let you know how it goes :) We will have rice with it :)

WFD at your house?

In honor of the first day of school- we are having EVERYONES favorite. Spaghetti! I have some sausage to put in the sauce and we will have some rolls with it and maybe a salad.

Today is my DD's first day of preschool!!! :cool1: :guilty:  I'm happy & I'm sad. I'm making macaroni & cheese (based on Martha Stewarts' recipe but I've made it my own), baked chicken breasts, green beans, & my DD's favorite - apple pie. :cheer2:

I am going to try the recipe on the boards for Crockpot Chicken and Dumplings...I am going to add some vegies and use the bisquick recipe for the biscuits...

Have a great day everyone!

Tacos for us. I bought pre-shredded lettuce and I need to use it before it gets gnarly.

First day back to school for us, too! Tonight I'm making calzones stuffed with mozzarella, pepperoni, lots of sauce and extra veggies for the less picky people. ;)

Hamburgers on onion rolls, steak fries, chocolate chip cookies (if they make it to dinner time).

Big step, isn't it? For Mom and for DD. I hope she has a great time, and that you survive the first day.

We are having my version of the summer stew that is posted somewhere on this thread. it is so good, and I hope that having it on hand will help me loose a little weight. I am not having much luck in the willpower department.
I am also having hotdogs on toasted rolls and some kind of side.

I finally got around to making the Mexican Lasagna, and BOY, was it wonderful! Even my picky eaters loved it!

Tonight I'm making the chicken pot pie from this list. I'm really excited about it! I'm adding some frozen veggies to it so it will be a one dish meal. Haven't gotten as far as dessert, yet. We've got ripe plums and pears to pick, so maybe a cobbler or crisp. Don't know. Depends on how much time I have after the kids get home from school!

I have to say that my Chicken and Dumplings (recipe from this thread) is coming out great...I just tasted it before I put the dumplings in....I added onions, carrots celery, parsley, more water and S&P...also using bisquick dumplings , oh and I took the chicken out early so it would not dry out...I hope the family likes it...

I love this thread!!! Thanks all!

I've got meatloaf in the oven. It smells good! I made extra baked potatoes last night, so DD and I are having those with it. I'm also fixing something green, but I haven't looked yet to see what I have available.

Just got home from dinner at the in-laws. We had chicken bbq, potato salad, corn (canned) and I took Calico Beans. I was surprised we didn't have dessert. They are usually big dessert people.

Tonight we just had chinese food. It was just OK--I'm not a big chinese food fan.

I have some good stuff planned for tomorrow, but have to finish thinking of everything I am making before I post.
