Hello my dear friends,
We just came in from a very loooong day. I am worried and cried out, though things are ok now. It did not go like planned, and we are just fortunate that it wasn't any worse. It started out just wonderful, we slept in, I made pancakes, and watched the parade,I took a shower, got dressed, cooked the squash and added in the syrup mixture. Headed over to the outlawz at 11:45, at noontime Kris left to go get my grandmother and I called her to let him know she was on the way.............No answer, I wasn't to worried as she doesn't always hear it. Well Kris gets there, and calls me to tell me she isn't there, the neighbor came and told him that she had left in an ambulance 10 min prior. (he passed it on the way to her house) The poor thing (93 years old and lives alone) had fallen the neighbor said and split her head open. She said that my gm was ok though. Kris went to look and the whole floor in the doorway to the bedroom, and bathroom was covered in blood everywhere. So he calls me to tell me this, and is on the way to get me, I call the ER to say she is on her way, and that we will be there ASAP, so that they know she does have family on the way. As I am on the phone with them they say Oh she just came in...then I hear from the nurse...OMG....get here as quick as you can.
So I am at a loss, no idea what is going on, having to wait for Kris to come back and get me, I was in tears. It felt like forever for Kris to get back to me.My MIL kept saying well they will prob just glue it, and my dinner won't be ruined try to make it quick, aaarrrrgggghhhh!
We get to the hospital and my poor gm....bless her heart.....( I tear up just thinking of it)...her whole face was covered in blood (head injuries bleed so bad as it is so vascular) but this was bad, now she is so sweet, she kept saying how sorry she was to mess up dinner, then she kept cracking jokes etc. They did a Cat scan, and that was ok (thank god), no concussion, though her nose was broken, and cut pretty bad....but NOTHING at all like her forehead.......she split it open the size and shape of a silver dollar, and it was only attached to her head by 1/4 of an inch, we could see her skull it was so deep and wide. It took over 3.5 hours to sew it back up, and over 60 stitches, at first the dr ws not sure if there was enough tissue to keep it healthy and alive to not warrent her eventually needing plastic surgery as this skin would fall off etc. but by the end he was pretty optimistic that with his stitching (which was unreal) that it might regain enough blood supply to be ok. He then used glue for the cut on her nose, they had to put a pressure bandage on her head as it was so swollen and had an egg the size of a large grapefruit, both of her eyes were as black as the night, then the sweet nurses and cna's cleaned her up, and helped her use the bed pan for the 14th time, lol, when she gets nervous she has to pee a lot, they had to restock the room, hehehe.
Long story short we were there from 12:20 until 4:45, then took her home and got her fed and settled into her chair (this is where she sleeps ever since my grandfather passed away 8 years ago). When we left she was asleep, and the neighbor was going to do some night checks on her.
(she fell putting her shoes on,(tipped over) and hit the door casing, and the doorknob plate in the bedroom where she gets dressed, she was hurrying as she was so excited to be going out for the day

)
We then went back to the outlawz and had our warmed up dinner, and a big glass of wine, and the rest of the family stopped in for desserts etc.
Kris and I are wiped right out! My heart is so sad for how bad my grandmother got hurt, but SO Thankful it wasn't worse then it was. She kept saying how lucky she is to have us, but I think it is the other way.
MY mil said it was a horrible thanksgiving and how it was a lot of work for nothing. How depressing it was etc cause we weren't there. I just ignored her as it isn't worth it.
I hope all of you had a much better day. Kathy my heart thought of you many times today, as I was sitting there holding my grams hand while they stitched her up.
Like I said yesterday and many have said today....I am so thankful for all of you who are not only my dear friends, but also my family too.
Thanks for listening.....and if you could spare some good thoughts and prayers...my gram could really use them that this heals ok, and she does not get an infection, or need surgery.
