We are going to my Mother's (she lives so close we could walk there!). We are having turkey, homemade stuffing (I too love stove top... but not for thanksgiving and my Mom makes UNBELIEVABLE stuffing) mashed potatoes, baby peas, squash, boiled onions, homemade gravy, homemade yeast rolls (again, to DIE for), cranberry sauce. Then for dessert, pumpkin pie, chocolate pie (not jello... my own homemade pudding... really good!) and custard pie.

We are eating at 1pm so tonight I will have a turkey sandwich... I love my Thanksgiving night turkey sandwich....

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Lindsay- glad your rash was just an irritation and nothing major!

Gretchen Our "snow storm" is pretty disappointing. Just a little ice on the deck which the dogs slipped and fell on :rotfl2:. Yes I know how evil of me to laugh at the dogs but it was too funny.

Today we will go to my Aunt's and Uncle for our little thanksgiving and to be thankfull for our little family.

Lindsay glad you rash is nothing serious. Have a great time with your Dad

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.

OKW Mom, the herb buttter is so simple! The entire turkey recipe is from Sandra Lee. I made it last year, and it was just delicious. I hope it turns out as well today.

Herb Butter
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 tsp poultry seasoning
2 tbsp garlic herb sauce mix (recommended: Knorr)
1 1/2 tsp crushed garlic

Combine softened butter, poultry seasoning, garlic herb sauce mix, and crushed garlic. Use a fork to mix together until well combined. Cover and put in the refrigerator for 15 to 30 minutes until firm.

I make mine the day before, put it in plastic wrap or a sandwich bag. I form it to a roll shape to get firm. Then you slice it and put it under the skin of the turkey. It is really delicious!

The sugared pecans I made last night had the entire house smelling like Epcot. They are delicious, easy, and perfect to snack on. Let me know if anyone wants that recipe.

Wishing everyone a wonderful day today!

I always use the Benjamin Moore website. They have a feature where you can paint rooms and experiment with colors. If you're really ambitious, you can load your own room photos, but they have some on the site that you can use to get the right idea.

I'm definitely going to try that website out! Thanks. I may just get up the courage to put some color into our house!

Well, the stuffing is made, sourdough rolls are made, another pumpkin pie is cooling, and the turkey is in the oven. All I have left to do is the sweet potatoes. I'll slide those into the oven while the turkey is "resting." Since we're not eating until late due to Alan's schedule, it's been a pretty relaxing day. I'm also thankful that I don't have to make the gravy or the mashed potatoes. Whew!!!

Pie night was a huge success! Jacob was so proud of the fact that there was not one slice of his eggnog pumpkin pie left! I've got pictures of everything, just need to upload them. We'll see if that happens today or not.

Have a most marvelous day today, my friends.

sugared pecans... sounds good to me... I'll take that recipe!!

Me too!!

:yay: for Jacob!!!! Can't wait to see the pics!

It's a very quiet, sad day here. I can't wait for Sunday......

Hope everyone is having a fantastic day!

We ended up at Cracker Barrell last night - I always get the Old Timers Breakfast. YUM!

I started cooking about 930 this morning and finally sat down around 2pm. It was fun, though! I didn't get to 3 recipes - 1 because I bought the wrong kind of puff pastry so I had to thaw it in order to form it into the right shape before, 1 because I bought the wrong dang olives (ones that weren't pitted!) and there is no easy way to pit them, and 1 because I am tired.

I will fix the puff pastry and eggrolls later tonight or tomorrow.

I took pics of everything and will post reviews, recipes and pics later ;)

Now that it is quiet her I want to come on and count my Blessings. I know that some people will never understand the friendships formed here, but I am so thankful for each one of you. I don't work outside of my home anymore so my circle has narrowed so much. I never thought that the most wonderful circle of friends would happen when I stopped in the day Lindsay asked what everyone was having for dinner. I was so worried that I was going to turn into Buddy's Uncle's second nasty wife Fran, peeking out of windows and gossiping all day. But you all turned up and for that I am thankful. Happy Thanksgiving!

Kathy

Aimee- I saw your menu, even if three items were left off you had one huge feast!

Glynis- I am proud of Jacob! There is not much better thatn seeing your dessert all gone!

Mermaid- Your Mom sounds like a wonderful cook.

Lindsay- I can't believe anyone would turn down help from you ion the kitchen :confused3. What's up with that??????? Has she not had your food?????? I remember a while ago after having your dessert your FIL said that he was so glad you were part of the family, MIL should have paid attention.

Anyway, I'm glad that your arm is fine. If you want to share your story, I'd like to know what happened. I know that your Dad was glad to have your company, though.

Nan, I know what you're saying. Little did I know that my best friends in the whole world would be people I've never met before. Not only are everyone here my friends, they are my family, as I've said before. Even though I still work part-time I only have one co-worker so my circle of friends is extremely small too. I'm going to stop now as this has been a very emotional day. Just wanted to say how thankful I am for Lindsay, if she hadn't started this thread I'd have been a basket case this past year.

Hello my dear friends,

We just came in from a very loooong day. I am worried and cried out, though things are ok now. It did not go like planned, and we are just fortunate that it wasn't any worse. It started out just wonderful, we slept in, I made pancakes, and watched the parade,I took a shower, got dressed, cooked the squash and added in the syrup mixture. Headed over to the outlawz at 11:45, at noontime Kris left to go get my grandmother and I called her to let him know she was on the way.............No answer, I wasn't to worried as she doesn't always hear it. Well Kris gets there, and calls me to tell me she isn't there, the neighbor came and told him that she had left in an ambulance 10 min prior. (he passed it on the way to her house) The poor thing (93 years old and lives alone) had fallen the neighbor said and split her head open. She said that my gm was ok though. Kris went to look and the whole floor in the doorway to the bedroom, and bathroom was covered in blood everywhere. So he calls me to tell me this, and is on the way to get me, I call the ER to say she is on her way, and that we will be there ASAP, so that they know she does have family on the way. As I am on the phone with them they say Oh she just came in...then I hear from the nurse...OMG....get here as quick as you can.
So I am at a loss, no idea what is going on, having to wait for Kris to come back and get me, I was in tears. It felt like forever for Kris to get back to me.My MIL kept saying well they will prob just glue it, and my dinner won't be ruined try to make it quick, aaarrrrgggghhhh!
We get to the hospital and my poor gm....bless her heart.....( I tear up just thinking of it)...her whole face was covered in blood (head injuries bleed so bad as it is so vascular) but this was bad, now she is so sweet, she kept saying how sorry she was to mess up dinner, then she kept cracking jokes etc. They did a Cat scan, and that was ok (thank god), no concussion, though her nose was broken, and cut pretty bad....but NOTHING at all like her forehead.......she split it open the size and shape of a silver dollar, and it was only attached to her head by 1/4 of an inch, we could see her skull it was so deep and wide. It took over 3.5 hours to sew it back up, and over 60 stitches, at first the dr ws not sure if there was enough tissue to keep it healthy and alive to not warrent her eventually needing plastic surgery as this skin would fall off etc. but by the end he was pretty optimistic that with his stitching (which was unreal) that it might regain enough blood supply to be ok. He then used glue for the cut on her nose, they had to put a pressure bandage on her head as it was so swollen and had an egg the size of a large grapefruit, both of her eyes were as black as the night, then the sweet nurses and cna's cleaned her up, and helped her use the bed pan for the 14th time, lol, when she gets nervous she has to pee a lot, they had to restock the room, hehehe.
Long story short we were there from 12:20 until 4:45, then took her home and got her fed and settled into her chair (this is where she sleeps ever since my grandfather passed away 8 years ago). When we left she was asleep, and the neighbor was going to do some night checks on her.

(she fell putting her shoes on,(tipped over) and hit the door casing, and the doorknob plate in the bedroom where she gets dressed, she was hurrying as she was so excited to be going out for the day:()

We then went back to the outlawz and had our warmed up dinner, and a big glass of wine, and the rest of the family stopped in for desserts etc.

Kris and I are wiped right out! My heart is so sad for how bad my grandmother got hurt, but SO Thankful it wasn't worse then it was. She kept saying how lucky she is to have us, but I think it is the other way.

MY mil said it was a horrible thanksgiving and how it was a lot of work for nothing. How depressing it was etc cause we weren't there. I just ignored her as it isn't worth it.

I hope all of you had a much better day. Kathy my heart thought of you many times today, as I was sitting there holding my grams hand while they stitched her up.

Like I said yesterday and many have said today....I am so thankful for all of you who are not only my dear friends, but also my family too.
Thanks for listening.....and if you could spare some good thoughts and prayers...my gram could really use them that this heals ok, and she does not get an infection, or need surgery.

Remember me talking about our friend Robin? Well she is coming over today and so is my BIL. We are having a Pirate Day. Watching pirate themed movies all day long. How fun is that? For food: at lunch I am making nachos; at dinner, Robin is making beer cheese soup a la Le Cellier in bread bowls. How fun of a day does this sound?? :)

WFD at your house?

I never thought that the most wonderful circle of friends would happen when I stopped in the day Lindsay asked what everyone was having for dinner.

Lindsay- I can't believe anyone would turn down help from you ion the kitchen :confused3. What's up with that??????? Has she not had your food?????? I remember a while ago after having your dessert your FIL said that he was so glad you were part of the family, MIL should have paid attention.

Nancy, you are so sweet  I mention you guys and this thread a couple times a week myself. You guys truly are the best :)

And yes, MIL has had my food. Not sure what the deal is. I truly don't mean to offend anyone by this, but I have a theory why she is the way she is. About 10 years ago, she had a brain aneurysm. They had to go into her brain and do some work (there's name for this surgery, can't remember it offhand). Anyway, I wonder if something wasn't slightly tapped in her frontal lobe and it impaired her personality. I say this because some of the things she says and does are so odd and childlike I have a hard time believing she was always this way.

Know what I mean?

Oh Wendie I'm glad your Grandmother is back home. Poor thing. Of course I'll say a prayer or two for her and one for your mil too.

Kathy

Lindsay Thank you for giving us all a place to make very special friends.

Lindsay The brain is a very delicate mysterious thing. I've learned too much since that stroke happened to my cousin.

I'm here snacking on leftovers. I am going hit the stores soon as soon as Mr Sleepy wakes. I want to knock as many people of my list today so I too can say I'm done Christmas shopping. ;)

I think I'll make the porcupine meatballs that I never did last week.

Good morning everyone.

Our Thanksgiving was uneventful in a good way. We all had a good time and the kids loved the jumpy castle/slide we rented. They played on that thing for hours and hours.

Today I feel like I have finally hit the wall. Kenny left for work just now and Hailey is having a morning session of therapy. Amanda and Patrick are at their mother's and Kenny won't pick them up until tomorrow afternoon.

After I post, I'm planning on soaking in a nice hot bath. Then I have to run to the bank and I'll start the laundry for our trip. I figure I can get Hailey's stuff packed today and make a list of the last minute things I need to buy tomorrow.

If I have the time or the inclination, I'll have a pedicure today. I received a gift certificate for one from my sweet MiL and haven't used it yet.

Have a great day everyone.

Wendie - I'm so sorry your Grandmom and you guys had to spend the day in the ER, but I'm oh so thankful that it wasn't any worse. She sounds like a really amazing lady, bless her heart for apologizing for messing up the day. Now your MIL is another story, a real piece of work.

WFD - leftovers!!

Oh Wendie I'm sorry about your Gram.... I'm glad it wasn't worse... but the poor thing... It will be a while healing.

I have nothing to say about your MIL. I can't believe she acted that way.

Wendie, I'm so sorry about your grandmother. I'm glad she's home and will keep her in my thoughts for a quick recovery.

As for your MIL, :confused3 I just don't get people sometimes. How can she be so self centered?

Dinner will be the leftovers from yesterday with lots of football thrown in, too!
