Guys, I have 12 people coming tomorrow and have 2 tables being set. Is it OK if I do a buffet or is that tacky? I plan on having the tables set but don't want to have 4 platters of turkey, etc. so was thinking of serving buffet. It will also be less clutter on the table.

I need your opinions please.

I'm here! Thank you for looking out for me!!!

Is A feeling any better today?

New for posting on this thread. =)

Welcome and please stick around!! I look forward to sharing recipes with you.:goodvibes

We like all kinds of posters but I wish you were "on" a lot more. We miss you when you're not here.

Mermaid - I agree!!!!:thumbsup2

Steph - I hope you have a safe trip and a wonderful holiday!

Today is my last day of work until 12/11!!!! I'll start my marathon cooking when I get home this afternoon. Johnny is going to pick up Chinese on his way home from work tonight.:)

Have a great day everyone!

I also have twelve people and can seat them all together. I have tried on several occasions to have the food placed on the table but ut never works out well. Someone always needs to help serve food because you just cannot get the platters to the other side. This time I am just setting it all out on a serving table and it is buffet!

I'll put the S&P, butter, rolls and cranberry sauce on the table but that is it.

That is a good long time off! I also started cooking but I always feel like i am falling behind. I have no idea what anyone is going to eat tonight. My family usually steers clear of me and the kitchen when I am up to my elbows in flour :lmao:

It is absolutely NOT tacky to put it out buffet style! Go ahead and do it. One thing I like to do with my food when I do it buffet is put the dishes at different heights. I think it makes things look nicer and prettier too. I usually just cover a tin or a flowerpot with a cloth and put the dish on that.

Welcome babypiglet! Your salad sounds yummy.

Lindsay I don't blame you for checking it out--it might just be eczema but having someone look at it is probably a good idea.

Glynis, I am not very good at painting ither people's houses. Ask Laura!! But, this time I am doing a very nice job, if I do say so myself. It is amazing how nice it looks to have some color on the wall.

I'm just making spaghetti and garlic bread tonight, I think. The calm before the storm!

Morning everyone!

I have a request. Has Glynis' Derby Pie recipe been posted? Search isn't cooperating this morning, & I haven't been able to spot it in our LONG list that Lindsay so diligently maintains.

UGH! I dread having to hit the grocery store this late in the game, but need to bring a last minute dessert. I vaguely remember a neighbors' recipe for this same pie, but need confirmation to make sure I have the ingredients on hand. Any help?

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone! Whether it's with a houseful of extended family & friends, or a cozy gathering of 2 or 3, I hope it's special.

Good morning Ladies!

Just a quick check-in as I am crazy busy at work today trying to wrap up my loose ends before vacation. I've read all the posts I missed, but I'm so sorry I don't have time to respond to everyone.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving.

Becky, I can hardly wait to see what lovely food pics you will have for us. :goodvibes

Lauren I don't think a buffet is tacky, but we do it every year. And my family has been known to be Whiskey Tango at times. I hope A gets better soon.

Kathy I hope you are having a good last day at work. :goodvibes

Nancy Can Kady have chocolate candy? Or does the milk in the chocolate make it a no-no?

Sheryl your bathroom looks amazing and I also find your commode quite lovely. :rotfl: Seriously, I think it looks really great and I know you and Bob are really enjoying it.

Sorry to everyone else I have missed. Please forgive me.

Gretchen

:worship: Thank you soooooooo much!
Funny, I used to love working this time of the year as a cashier @ the local grocery store because we stayed so busy. Now that I have to be on the other end, I'm not loving standing in line!

We always do buffet style when it's more than 6-8 people. I think it's fine and reduces the amt of passing that goes on at the table! =)

I thought about cooking tonight since I have a guest, but it's just my sister and I don't want to mess up the kitchen tonight!

We'll see what DH wants when he gets off work. They aren't even closing early tonight so he'll be there til 6 and he has to work Fri morning at 9am. POO on them!

Thank you all for your info on the buffet. I have alot of small boxes, maybe I will take Becky's advice and do different heights...I will make sure they are sturdy!!! ;)

Gretchen, Welcome to Whiskey Tango my friend!

Stuffing and turnips are done, now boiling yams for my candied sweet potatoes. I made too much stuffing I think but hey, I LOVE stuffing!!!

Lauren - Now that you've made room in your signature I have something to send you, but your PM box is full!

cajunmommy- you are going to love the Derby Pie!

Gretchen- Kady cannot have most chocolate. We have some Gherridelli (sp) chips she can have and have discovered that she can have Jr Mints, but that is about it. The very dark chocolates are generally okay. Dr does not want her to have anything with dairy in it. She is fine with it though, we are the ones to feel badly.

Back to the kitchen!

New for posting on this thread. =) But have spent the last hour or so reading through and have came up with some great dinner ideas.

Last night we had huge chef salads with, ham, turkey, tomatoes, cucumbers, grated cheese, and croutons. They were delicious.

Welcome to our family!

The chef salad sounds wonderful!!! Sometimes nothing hits the spot like a big salad!!!

We are going to my ILs tonight (read as "eating as PBJ in hiding then going to eat at ILs"), hee hee!

WFD at your house?

ETA: You guys, I'm so nervous. I have an odd rash on my arm and I have no idea what it is. It seems to have gotten bigger and redder since yesterday. Since MRSA is rampant around here, I am going to the walk-in clinic to get it checked out. Better be safe than sorry.

I'm glad that you are getting this checked out! Please update us and let us know what's going on!
