This is the best cooking advice I have had in a while. Thanks you Laura.
I am supposed to go to a Tailgate Party on Saturday and take something.
There will be probably 20 people there - mostly guys.
I have no clue what to take - but I always look at things like this as an opportunity to try something different.
A lot of times though it crashes and burns then I look like a b**b in front of 20 hungry people.
It can be depressing. I guess I should either try the recipe the day or week before - or make something I know will be good to take.
Right now I'm just bummed out about cooking and I may just go buy a 7 layer dip at the store with some chips.

So - WFD? Well, DH will be home tonight (most nights he is in karate until past my bedtime) So I need to make something. But - I have no idea what to make. It is soo hard cooking for him! He doesn't like meatloaf, casseroles, sheppard Pie, anything with mayo or sour cream, he doesn't like mac and cheese, or ANY vegetables (except a potato cut into sticks and fried) and he doesn't like breakfast items. When he eats out for lunch everyday its typically some fried chicken sandwich or chicken fingers or chicken nuggets - so for dinner he says he's tired of chicken.
What's a wife supposed to do??? :confused3

Its soo frustrating sometimes and today I am particullary bummed out about this whole cooking thing for some reason. I see ya'lls posts and pictures of these wonderful meals you have made ... and I want so bad to make these dishes and be the wife that has dinner ready when DH comes home - just like my mom always did for us and my dad. None of us were picky -we'd eat just about anything. (I will eat anything - as long as its not bleeding or still has its organs in it - and I LOVE to try new things)

I can hear it now ... "Just cook stuff and make him try it - if he don't like it he don't have to eat it"
Been there, done that - thrown out too many meals that he came home and didn't want to eat or try. It hurts to spend the time, effort and money on something for him just waltz in, turn his nose up, and make a sandwich or something else he knows he likes. Why do that to myself?

Ok - I've gone on enough....
I hope everyone is having a great day - I'm gonna try to put myself in a better mood and get some work done.
Thanks for listening...

I've got a recipe for Wings 2 Ways that is really easy, and very yummy! I had never made hot wings before, but made these for a family party. It really is such an easy recipe! If you want, I'll post it.

As for pleasing your hubby....just start cooking for yourself. If he wants to eat, he will, if not, there's really nothing you can do about it. However, if you make it a habit, he'll eventually start trying things that you make, and it will be all right in the end. Just don't get frustrated! It takes time, and effort, and you are clearly willing to spend both on this! We are here for you to vent to, celebrate with, etc., just keep it up!!!

Thanks again to everyone for the well wishes for DD. She looks much better, but I don't think the sores in her mouth are much better. She still doesn't want to eat and all she wanted to do yesterday afternoon and early evening was lie in my bed with me and play with her singing puppy. If she isn't eating by tomorrow, I'm calling the doctor.

Tonight's dinner, if my child will allow me to cook it, is a scallop stir fry. It's a new recipe, so we'll see how it goes.

Gretchen, My DD gets ulcers in her mouth quite often. The 1st time it happened she was about 8 or 9 & it was really bad, her mouth & throat. She hardly ate a thing for about a week & a half. So I know how worried you must be! I would call the dr. by tomorrow if she still not eating.

I think I did this right, it has white specks on it that I can't clear up. YES I Boo Hoo'd at the photography studio when they pulled out the big 11x14!

Oh, my gosh!!!! What an incredibly handsome young man!!! You should definitely feel proud of him!

I am running around today and will check back later...just wanted to share...

My team Biggest Loser team won again last week and I'm the 3rd biggest loser!!! :dance3:

That's our girl!!!!! You are my hero!!!!!

Hi all.. I know I haven't posted here in ages..My food is really boring in the summer, and we have had houseguests for 3 weeks...My daughter is now a vegetarian so my meals are chaning a bit..I have a ton of ricotta cheese to eat so tonight the meat eaters will have pepperoni, ricotta and provolone cheese calzones and DD will have spinich calzones

I was just thinking about you today, and hoping everything was ok. Thanks for popping in!

How's Ed doing?

Feeding him dinner at night is when I get stressed out most.
I only have to feed him a couple nights a week and maybe on a sunday evening. I love all food and want to try things and make him try things - but most of time he's not interested. He wants pizza, burgers, spaghetti, ....
Granted - that's all easy stuff to make - but I enjoy cooking and being in the kitchen. I feel a sense of accomplishment when I make something that we both like. (Or even if I like it and know its good - but he's just being picky)

I know you said that your DH doesn't want chicken for dinner, but if he does like it, there's an incredible recipe listed on the front page: Baked Chicken Reubens. It is to die for yummy!!!! And since the chicken in baked, it's a bit more healthy than the breaded and fried stuff he's getting for lunch.

If he doesn't like sauerkraut (like my kids), simply leave it off his portion, and add more swiss cheese and thousand island to his.

How's Ed doing?

Great in some ways..Lots of movement and feeling coming back in his legs and feet..In the bad news he has a significant blockage in his corotid artery. He will probably have to go into the hospital next week and have it taken care of.
Thanks for asking

That is great!!!! :cool1: :cool1:
I have decided to check out my local "curves" fitness center myself, watching the BL really gets me thinking i NEED to move more, and the regular gym bores me to tears and i never work hard enough..so here i go..i would love to be a Big Loser with you !

Please let me know how curves works for you! We are getting one in our small town, and it would be more convenient than driving one town over to go to a fitness center. Please let me know all about it, ok?

I'll keep him in my prayers, if you don't mind. I've followed his/your whole story, and you have both become quiet heroes to me! I'm really concerned, and interested in how you are all doing.

Jenny - I'm so sorry, I missed your post here. I've been praying for Ed since I saw your post earlier this week. Please know we're here for you.

I just looked through our index and saw that I never posted my Wings recipe, so here it is:

Wings, 2 Ways

1 pkg. 5 pounds frozen wingettes

Buffalo Sauce:
3/4 C. hot pepper sauce
4 Tbsp. butter, melted

Maple BBQ Sauce:
1 C. ketchup
1/2 C. maple syrup
6 Tbsp. cider vinegar

Heat oven to 425 degrees. Place wing pieces in large deep roasting pan - no need to thaw. Bake for 1 hour, stirring frequently, until cooked through and meat begins to pull away from the ends. Remove pan to a wire rack. Using tongs, divide wing pieces between 2 jelly roll pans, shaking excess fat back into roasting pan. Heat oven to broil. Stir together ingredients for each sauce. Brush enough Buffalo sauce onto wing pieces in one pan to coat. Broil about 7 minutes until crispy. Remove, turn wing pieces over, and brush with more sauce. Broil another 7 minutes. Remove and let cool briefly on wire rack. Repeat with Maple BBQ sauce on wings in second pan, broiling each side for 8 minutes. Remove and let cool briefly. Reserve any leftover sauce. Serve wings immediately or cover and refrigerate for up to 1 day.

I liked these wings a lot, but next time, I would stick to the buffalo sauce, and not do the BBQ sauce. The buffalo was more popular among my family!

Also, I lined my jelly roll pans with foil and sprayed them with Pam. It really helped with the clean up!

So I am making the pizza meatloaf muffins for supper tonight. Not sure what side I will make to go with it.

I had cucumbers in vinegar last night! I thought I was the only one who did that!

Crusty bread and a salad is what I was thinking. Thanks for the input. :)

I grew up on cucumbers and vinegar. Try some sour cream and dill for a change add a little sugar.

Lastest news on the weather. It is likely heading here, but as just a tropical storm on Saturday. Weathermen said we just have to watch that it doesn't get stuck out there in the warm waters. Hopefully just a lot of rain & a little wind.

Nancy, Earlier in hurricane season, we tend to get more notice. Maybe four or five days. They form way out there & tracking is easier. This time of year they tend to bubble up all of a sudden in the Gulf. The steering currents aren't as strong, so they can't tell as easily where it's going to go. Like now, they are saying it probably won't be bad, and most won't need to evacuate. But we could wake up tomorrow or even Saturday and YIKES it's something big! It really makes it hard to plan anything. And right now landfall could be anywhere from the Florida Panhandle to Texas. So figuring out where we would go is also hard.
I hope it is only just a light sprinkle.

I hope Ed gets back on his feet soon and no more set back

What a sweet boy! :goodvibes

I just wanted to post an update on DD. I went to work today and when I got home, she was laughing and having a great time with the evening therapist. She ate a PB&J this afternoon and seems to be much better. I really appreciate all of the prayers and concerns for her health. Like Kyle, I feel like I have a family here even though we haven't met. Thanks to all of you. :grouphug:

:yay: :yay: Prayers answered!!

My dinner tonight was Taco Bueno. I adore their mexidips and chips, it was on the way home, and I'm alone tonight with the dogs =)

Tomorrow I am having my first iron infusion; I don't think I've shared too much about my health issues before... there shouldn't be any problems with it, it just takes hours. I hope in a month or so that I'll see a different in my overall health. They told me I could bring in food, things to do, etc since I'll be there from 1030 - 330 or so; I think I'll drive through ChickFilA and bring in "brunch" to tide me over.

Tomorrow night I have another retreat with a great group of kids coming; I'll be getting fast food for me and the kids I have to pick up (very very poor family; no money for car, food, etc so we'll eat together on the way). I'll be back home Saturday night but again will be home alone so who knows what I'll throw together for dinner! I have a pile of recipes I'm desperate to try but we never seem to be home these days...
