Liam and DH didn't catch anything, but a fisherman near them took pity on them and gave them a bluefish he didn't want. I am not a huge fan of bluefish, but I have to say, it was really tasty. I am bringing the rest to Becky tomorrow. DH was pretty surprised when I announced I would be gutting and cleaning the fish...I think he was a little woozy watching but wouldn't admit it  ... but it wasn't any grosser than deboning a chicken. Next time, I think I'll use plastic gloves though. My hands smelled like fish guts most of the day.

Anyway, dinner was grilled bluefish in a mustard sauce, baby back ribs with SBRs, macaroni and cheese, cornbread and sauteed spinach. My ILs ate with us too, but I think DH singelhandedly assured that there would be no leftovers.

I'm finally caught up. we got in not too long ago and I just sat and had a glass of X-Rated on the rocks. It's not as pretty as those gems posted here, but after the day I had it was perfect :thumbsup2

Kathy- you are not without family, you just don't have blood relatives. You have us, and don't you forget it Girl!

I'm having a pity party today, and I feel guilty because I don't have all the worries that some have, but today I had to take my Mom's cat to the vet to be put to sleep. I have never done this and I never want to do it again. He has never been anyone else's pet but hers, and never adjusted after she passed, but after Donny moved to his own home he just got worse and has not kept food down. The vet said he thinks he was sick, but did not put him through a thorough exam. He and the vet tech said that his back and neck felt like he had started losing mass. I think he had a broken heart :sad1:. They spent every day for the past ten years together and he was lost without her.

Well, have a good evening and I know that I had so much to say to all of you but again I would take up a whole page here.

Hi everyone,

Lauren is teaching me how to post.

You go girl - everything so far looks great!!

Kathy- you are not without family, you just don't have blood relatives. You have us, and don't you forget it Girl!

Thanks my friend.

You have me in tears about Mom's kitty, it's not a pity party, it's grief in a very sensitive and touching form. I would have been heartbroken as it was a broken heart that caused it.

Nancy-- after having to put our cat down last week...I am so sorry......the poor thing I am sure, was dying of a broken heart. This I am sure was a hard moment, it was another part of your mom you are saying goodbye to. hugs to you my friend.

(I looooove X-rated on the rocks too!!!)

Bigmama--everything looks great...love the hidden mickey touch too......the bread though looks amazing..............yep....I love my carbs, lol!!

Hi Y'all,

Wow, y'all are just so great! It really does help to know we'll have a lot of visiting to do, if we have to get out of town! I can't even begin to express my appreciation of everyone's offers to put us up. Hopefully this time around we won't need to take y'all up on it!!! :goodvibes

The lastest updates on Dean are looking better for us & our Texas friends too! Not so great for Jamaica & Mexico though. This is going to be a really bad storm for where ever it hits.:sad2: Predicted to be a Category 4 hitting Jamaica & a Cat 5 hitting Mexico.:scared1:

Kathy we really are going to have to plan a road trip to visit all of our GREAT DIS-girlfriends!!! Wendie's lobstahs are calling me! (With teensy weensy little screeches! )

I didn't start my cooking to clean out the freezer today. DD came over but with a really upset stomach, she didn't want to eat or smell food. So Lauren's London Broil will get a long marinade. But I'm also going to start cooking fish tomorrow too! I've gotten way too complacent allowing my freezer to fill up with goodies, that are really nasty once they sit unfrozen for weeks! Uccckkk, can't let that happen ever again!

Hope everyone has a good evening!

Nancy  What a awful day you had. That is a very hard thing to do.

liamandcaili Is bluefish anything like bluegill? My dad would take us fishing when I was younger for bluegill, sunfish and if we got lucky and my brother was quiet, walleye. I most hardily agree on the glove part

Today we are having BBQ salmon, mac and cheese and some kind of veggie

Woo boy! We didn't get back from Atlanta until late last night so we slept in. I'm still drinking my coffee. :surfweb:

Since we didn't get our groceries yesterday like we normally do, we are going to today. We are going to a local Greek restaurant for lunch. We will have a sandwich or something for dinner tonight.

WFD at your house?

ETA: Thanks to all of you for your cleaning tips! I really appreciate them :hippie:

:lmao: :lmao:

Yes it's looking like we have dodged Dean, BUT it's still way out there and I am not letting my guard down. I got all of Mom & Dad's things that are so special to me together yesterday and I've got our stuff to work on today.

Tonight we're having lamb chops with cabernet sauce, roasted potatoes and a salad.

Here are last night's burgers. DH's are in the front, they are beef, and my black bean one is in the back. Please disregard all the dirty dishes in the background.

I am not sure what is for dinner yet. I see that Laura made a mustard sauce for the bluefish yesterday, which is what I was planning on doing today, so now I have to come up with a different sauce.

Morning all--

screeching lobstahs will be ready for all that show up here for sure, lol!!

Ross' play went great yesterday..it was to cold and windy to eat outside at the bistro last night, so we went to the local blues club instead...which worked out well..between the margarita's and the music, conversation was simple and small which made it easier with the inlaws, lol. Though the women is quite annoying, as she can't handle one small rum and coke and gets obnoxious, not funny...but the conversation was kept off of money and grandma...maybe cause Kris was there too??? After we went over for a bit and Kris visited with his grandmother....the dementia is so bad...with Kris' grandfather we dealt with alzheimers.....this is so different, yet so similiar too...just plain sad either way.................

Supper tonight will be bbq chicken, stuffing, and corn on the cob.

Have a great day all!!

I am still praying that Dean listens to all of us and keeps away!!

Today's linner menu is set. We are having a couple of different kinds of fish. I got some flounder and Laura is going to make that tomato-basil cream sauce she posted a photo of a while back, and I also got scallops, which I am searing and serving over some herbed risotto. I am also making mozzarella-stuffed eggplant fritters, and an arugula salad. The only thing I have not figured out what to do with yet is the bluefish. It does not really fit in with the rest of the menu. Hmm....

Well, ya'll I think the diet is getting better.... I forgot to eat today.

But on the downside I am headed to Louisville tomorrow afternoon. My "you'd better get up here it's looking grim" call came in today and before I could call back with flight info I got the call. My Grams passed this afternoon.:sad1:

But at least she isn't miserable anymore. And selfish ole me- my thought was "couldn't she time this better?!? I'm going into my busiest time!" Well, it sounds bad I know, but it kept me from crying for about 10 seconds. She would have appreciated that.:cutie:

So after working all night last night (fell into bed at 6:30am for a cat nap) I am working all night again tonight to try to get ahead on work so I can fly home tomorrow.

Now that I remembered I haven't eaten, I am hungry.popcorn::

Lori - I'm so sorry that this happened, but you're right, at least she isn't miserable anymore! Many hugs from me to you!

OK, here are the pictures from today's linner. The bluefish Liam "caught," in a mustard garlic sauce:

The eggplant fritters (I should have taken a picture of the insides--it looked so yummy, but I was dining with my Dad, who hates me photoing food, as I've mentioned):

the final plated dinner, with Laura's tomato-basil cream sauce on the flounder, the herbed risotto with awesome seared scallops, and the fritters:

I had to change my sig pic to a generic St. John sunset, because I am heading out to the other boards for trip planning! I don't mind my wfd friends knowing what we all look like, but there are some scary people out on those other boards.

ALSO, I know a secret about the upcoming trip that Laura does not know! Obviously I can't tell you about it here, since she reads and posts here, but now she knows there is a secret! But I am NOT telling! :snooty: (unless you pm me, and you are not Laura!)

I've never heard of bluegill. Where did you fish? Bluefish is an ocean fish common here in the Northeast in the summer. Its taste can be fairly strong, as it is an oily fish, but the one Liam brought home was so fresh, the taste was mild and really good. Even Liam ate some. My family is hoping he goes out and catches another one...or even better, a striped bass. YUM. And my mom did give me a bag full of plastic gloves for any future fish guttings.

Hey, NO fair! Of course, now that I know there is a secret, I know you won't be able to resist telling me at some point. This is the woman who has to buy three sets of Christmas presents because she keeps giving them to people as soon as they arrive. :)

I buy doubles sometimes cause I like the presents so much I keep one set for Me :rolleyes1

Cross your fingers Ladies I want to grill my salmon it's been raining all day except right now.

Yeah, well, that's because I am especially generous. :)

As to the new secret, though, BWAH-HA-HA!!! You'll never know, I am as cool as ice!! :cool2: To give you an idea, I've known for SIX WEEKS so far without telling you!

(all the other interested wfd ladies know, ha-ha! :rotfl2: )

AND, to keep on food topic, I will tell you tomorrow's dinner. Jumbo shrimp stuffed with crabmeat, and corn fritters. Oh. and something green.

I want you all to head in our direction, but I hope that the trip will be for a vacation and not because you have to get out of Dodge!

I have been trying to reach a friend in Jamaica and I can't get through. He is not right on the shore. I hope that the reason his VM is full is because he took his family and headed towards the mountains. We have another friend who lives on the shore and there is no way to reach him. I am very worried. When I brought the men back to their house today one of their coworkers had just gotten off the phone from home. He said his wife said that the shy was very dark and there was a lot of thunder and lightening. He was very worried for his family. Please pray, these men are far from home and they have left their wives and children behind.

Nancy  What a awful day you had. That is a very hard thing to do.

It was a bad day. Buddy said he remembered having to take his Trixie and he never forgot how that felt. She just kept looking at him with her beautiful brown eyes.

Please disregard all the dirty dishes in the background.

Sweetie, in my house dirty dishes in the background of anything are part of the decor :lmao:

Congrats to Ross! I'm glad that it went well :cheer2:

I feel so badly for your family situation. Alzheimer's is one of the worst nightmares. If you talk to any of the seniors they are really not afraid of anything....but this disease. It robs a person of everything that they are and returns only panic and uncertainty. Thankfully GM has you both, your visits really do make a difference, even if you aren't able to see it. :grouphug:

Now you know that you can tell us, we'll keep that little secret:rolleyes1

Bluefish is really strong most of the time. I have not cooked it in years but when I used to cook it I soaked it in milk first and that seemed to remove that "fishy" taste.

Well today we did well and are done for a week. I am not sure how it happened but we had a gazillion people there. Not really, but Buddy cannot turn down anyone looking for work so we had three women and one of their sons along with the regular crew. We got done earlier that expected but Buddy hung around because their ride did not show up and I had to take people in the opposite direction. Erica helped me make chicken salad again and we put in on Bollillo rolls. I brought Little Debbies for a sweet after. Dan brought his big cooler filled with all kinds of soft drinks along with the water so it was kind of picnic like.

Tonight Marisa picked up fried chicken with mashed potatoes and potato salad. The only thing I "made" was cucumbers and tomatoes :rotfl:. Tomorrow I will get back in the groove. I was sick of standing over a stove with only chicken salad or egg salad to show for it!

My NOLA friends I am so glad that you are not in the path. Stay safe!
