Well, Well, Well...guys...

My SIL finally posts!!! Welcome!!! Please join us more often!!!
WELL HELLO THERE SIL! i finally found the WFD thread. not much cooking around here tonight.:rotfl: andy is home today so i am working on him taking me to the shrimp box !! HAHA!!:hyper:

My thoughts and prayers to everyone involved in the continuing tragedy in Utah :sad1:

My husband has a media ministry class/fellowship tonight. I am going shopping with my mom today so I will probably just have a big lunch somewhere.

WFD at your house?

Here's a couple of pics of the pizza tonight.

Going in to the oven:

Coming out!

That looks awesome!

I'm not sure wfd tonight, I just woke up! I have a sort of plan, though, as DH is working from home today. I am going to cut out of the office early and try and hit the fish market before it closes. I am hoping for smoe huge scallops. And I'll be going to the famers market of course! Happy Friday everyone!

Glynis, so sorry about your grandma.

Sounds like a great lineup to me!! I stressed so much over our ADRs, it's tough planning for 11 nights when DH, DS & DSGF all want the very best food there is, so we'll end up paying OOP for a few. But this may be our last trip for a while and we're maxing it out!!:woohoo: I'm re-thinking breakfast on our last morning I think we'll be sick of food by then.

Planning the meals is my favorite part of trip planning. Yes, my friend, it is all about the food for me ;) I would make an ADR for breakfast or an early lunch on that last day. You can always cancel and it is way better than airport food.

I love homemade pizza, but I can never make a good crust. I'm going to give this one a try! Thanks!!

It will have to be after we get back from vacation though, we leave tomorrow for 2 weeks.

We are taking our oldest DD back Yuma AZ, to meet her husband coming home from Iraq, then DH and I are going to DL, the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone before heading back home. And our youngest will be heading back to Baton Rouge.

Tonight for our special "last night at home" meal (sniff, sniff) I am making stir fried scallops with fried rice.

Thanks again to everyone for sharing their dinner ideas... I love this thread!!

I have had no luck with pizza dough either. I think it is because I only half read the recipes, though. The last time I used Tablespoons instead of teaspoons for salt :confused3
------

Please thank your DD and DSIL for their service. I cannot imagine the sacrifice that they make in order to keep us safe and free. Enjoy your trip to welcome home.

shovan, do you have a kitchenaid with the dough hook? I can't make pastry or bread of any kind on my own, even though I'd like to. I am wondering if you have good success with the machine doing the kneading. I don't own a stand mixer, and am thinking that it could be a valuable addition to my kitchen collection.

The best gift I have ever gotten was my Kitchenaid stand mixer over 20 years ago. I keep waiting for it to kick the bucket so that I can justify purchasing one of the new big boys but it is running like the Energizer Bunny. I agree with Sheryl that you would get your money's worth because yours is a working kitchen. I still regret the day that I passed up the opportunity of buying a used Hobart commercial countertop mixer. He wanted $500 for it and I cringed, but if I could turn back the clock I would buy it in a heartbeat. It would be able to mix 10 lbs of flour with all the extras.

I only had to plan dinner, we don't do breakfast and do CS for lunch, so it's not that much really. The hard part was we picked so many signature restaurants and had to narrow those down.:rolleyes1

It was the signature restaurants that killed us in January. This October we are only going to YS, but it is a short trip. I would love to go with my sister and her girls and it would be hard to choose restaurants because there are so many we enjoy and I would want her to try.

I think with everything you crank out in your kitchen, you really would get a lot of use out of a KitchenAid. DH bought the KitchenAid Artisan for me last Christmas. I used it today for the mixing the brownies & made the pizza dough. This was the first time I used the dough hook, it worked great! This is the first time I've made a pizza dough I've been happy with. I haven't attempted any bread yet, but after my success with the pizza I will soon. I'd love to be able to do french bread baguettes, but probably should start with something a bit easier.

I am learning to bake bread too. Once Kady is back in school I'll haul out my recipes ans try again. The culinary school has a satellite campus in town and the next time a class is offered in artisan bread making I am signing up. I learn better with hands on teaching and have a hard time out of a book.

Now you stick around and please post often.

Dinner last night was really good. DH said it did not look like food and drowned it in Worcester sauce along with the fresh cucumbers I added to dinner. The rest of us enjoyed it.

I am not sure what is going on this evening. We have some more moving today. I think we have too much stuff . Then I have to figure out what to feed everyone tomorrow. We will have about 20 people and lunch cannot be too involved or heavy. We will have some Jamaicans helping us and they don't eat pork so I won't include anything with it. I am thinking chicken salad and maybe seafood salad sandwiches. They really are not too heavy and if I don't go overboard on the mayo and I can make the filling tonight. We'll see what is on sale at eh store today.

My NOLA friends- if prayers and positive thinking could turn this storm around it would be heading back to the middle of the Atlantic. I am watching this and cannot imagine how you are all dealing with even the thought. It took me years to stop stocking up like I was gong to be snowed in for months after one bad ice storm that had us without power for 6 days. I cannot even compare that to what happened during Katrina, so my prayers are with all of you. :grouphug:

I also saw that there was more tragedy today in Utah. My heart is breaking for those poor people. It seems as though there is no good news there :sad1:

If I lived closer to the Shrimp Box, I would be heading there too! :) Stick around here...we are very chatty and fun!

My thoughts and prayers are with my NOLA friends.

Also praying for the situation in Utah...

Not sure what is for dinner...maybe grilled chicken. Something light. I am on the slow road at WW...I lost #s in 2 1/2 weeks...gotta speed that up!

Have a great day all!

Can you buy 4 - 6 foot hero or make your own on loaves of long italian bread? You can make different ones and also make them ahead.

Morning all--

Ross is at theater camp today and I am getting my hair trimmed...that is all for plans around here. Karate is done until the middle of Sept. (we do have one tournament and a demo in this time frame though).

Dinner tonight will be chicken with stuffing, and fresh corn on the cob.

Alexis & I just pulled out the yummy Ghiradelli brownies out of the oven! She helped with the pizza dough & the brownies. I wished I would have pulled out the camera to get a pic of her face covered with chocolate batter! :goodvibes

That sounds like so much fun! I'm sure it was the highlight of her day. I hate that you didn't get a picture too. I know it would have been precious.

Tonight for our special "last night at home" meal (sniff, sniff) I am making stir fried scallops with fried rice.

Do you cook the scallops along with the rice or is that two separate dishes?

Welcome. Please come and post often. We are a friendly group. Lots of chatter, a little dinner here and there. ;)

For us too. On Kenny's first trip, I couldn't get him to even discuss the meals or any of the planning for that matter. After that trip, I can't shut him up. He has become very particular about where we eat and would eat at nothing but the signature places if we could work it in.

Morning Y'all,

Today is my day off, but I have a dr's appt for a regular checkup. Blech!

Becky, Glad you like my pizza! That's high praise coming from you!

Welcome Big Mama!:goodvibes Love the name! Happy to have another of Lauren's clan on board!

Lauren, ????? On your London Broil, what do you usually serve with it? Does it have an Chinese/vietnamese flavor to it? and if you don't marinate it for 3 days will it not take on the flavor?

Kathy & Nancy, You mean WDW is not all about the food?!;)

Nancy, You have to tell me what would you do with the 10lbs of flour???!!!;)

Of course, you know my trouble with baking, following the recipe! (A side note on the pizza dough, I did make changes to the recipe. I'll go back & edit it.)
I envious of your culinary school & bread making classes nearby! I hope you get to go soon, I sure could use some tips!

And just curious but why don't Jamaicans eat pork? I know Muslims, Jewish, Hindus don't, but Jamaicans??? Well I'm sure Jamaicans can also be Muslim, Hindu or Jewish right!;)

Don't know what's for dinner tonight. DD wants to come by for a rare day off tommorrow & a swim, so I'm thinking about what would be good on the grill.

Sheryl

I cook the sea scallops different from the fried rice, but I cook bay scallops in the fried rice in place of the shrimp I usually use.

Hope that made sense! :)

It does make sense. Would you share your fried rice recipe?

WOW - Lots of stuff since I was on yesterday, hope I don't leave anyone out!
I am a bit late getting on here today....I spent the day with my mil and we actually had a nice day...breakfast...shopping, and then the farmers market. I avoided all conversations that would anger me, and when she tried to have them I just changed the topic. I am trying to "Err on the side of graciousness" as Lady Bird Johnson always said.

Good for you, you will be blessed for this!:goodvibes

Well, Well, Well...guys...

My SIL finally posts!!! Welcome!!! Please join us more often!!!

Please stick around Big Mama, I look forward to sharing laughs and recipes with you!

That looks soooooo good!!!!

You're right, we NEED to have a last Disney meal, I'll work on that today. We've ended up with 3 signature restaurants, 6 other very nice places AND Blue Zoo. I really narrowed it down, huh?:rotfl2:

Thanks so much Nancy. It's horrifying to say the least for me. I'm in planning mode for possible evacuation, I'm glued to the weather forecasts and watch the updated computer model forecasts hourly. The one good thing, I guess, is that I don't have to worry about Mom & Dad, which was always my #1 concern. They're very safe and hopefully watching out for me and my family.

It's fried green tomato night!!

Thanks Kathy!

Well you really didn't narrow that down very much did you?! Good for you, it's going to be great! Now you have me wondering if I should try to book more for our trip!

If your glued to the weather news, will ya let me know when I have to do something?! I really hate this! I was trying hard to ignore it but it looks like Dean is not going to let me do that any longer. Do you have any idea where y'all are gonna go if we have to evacuate? We've made 0 plans, thinking we'd find a stopping point & then head to Disney. But I'll have to find a hotel for the stopping point. And normally I wouldn't have to worry about my Mom but she hurt her foot yesterday & can hardly walk now. So one more little issue there.

Sorry y'all I'm babbling! It's the pulling my head out of the sand on the hurricane stuff!

Hello Friends! Sorry I haven't been on here the past couple of days. It sure took me a long time to catch up, and I hope I don't leave anyone out.

Everyone is having haddock lately and I have never had it...can you please describe it?

Haddock is a flaky white fish, similar to cod. It has a mild flavor and is good baked, broiled or fried. I like baking it with lemon, cream, butter and breadcrumbs on top.

Lori -- I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother. My condolences to you and your family.

Oh, and I think Liam's menu hit about every great ballpark food! But where was the cotton candy or Cracker Jacks?;)

:scared1: Liam was hyper enough without those!!

We are going to Crystal place, Coral reef, Artist Point,Fulton crab house, Lecellier,Tony's, Boma, Chef Mickey and Hoop Dee Doo what do you all think?

I love Artist Point! We also had a nice lunch at Coral Reef two trips ago. It's a great atmosphere, and our server was excellent. I don't think I've been to your other places, but I'm sure you'll have a great time!

TXTink -- I hope your DD has a wonderful reunion with her husband. I am sure it was a stressful year for her, and I am glad he is coming back safe and well.

I was saddened to read the news of the Utah mine in the paper this morning. Glynis, I am thinking of you and your DH.

I hope the weather forecast is looking better for all of you in NOLA.

Okay, I am sorry if I missed anything. DH is lurking around wondering what the heck I am doing in here. He doesn't understand the DIS.

I have to figure out who is here for dinner tonight. Liam and DH are going fishing tomorrow morning, so they are staying over at my ILs tonight for their early wakeup. I am not sure when they are leaving. Last night, I had my ILs here for dinner and we had that pan-seared flounder with tomato/basil cream sauce, eggplant sticks, cumin corn, and green beans. It was tasty.

Almost forgot - Nancy, Jamaicans don't eat pork?????:confused3

They might be Rastafarians. Rastafarians don't eat pork--in fact they don;t eat any meat. They do eat fish, but most of their diet is vegetarian. Rastafarians don't drink alcohol either.

There's Rastafarians on St. John too, mon. That's why I know all this! :goodvibes
