Good for your DH, Glynis!

I am not cooking tonight, I don't think. I have to go to a get together after work, and then I think DH and I are going out to dinner.

The board is running really slow for me today, so I can't go back and look at who asked me questions earlier, but:

No, I don't use any special lighting for my photos. I do have a tripod which holds the camera steady.

Baked goat cheese: I should have said sauteed goat cheese. All I did was lightly coat cold rounds of goat cheese with plain breadcrumbs, and then lightly fry in olive oil until just warmed through...about 1-2 minutes per side.

Becky, Thanks maybe we'll have that on salads tonight! And as I said, you're photography skills are great!

The Dis has been running unbelievably slow for me too! And hit post reply and waiiiittt! I'm gonna get off & actually go do some housework!!!

I was going to have tuna sandwiches tonight but the look of horror I got from DDIL and DD was enough to change my mind. I made my version of hamburg gravy with peas but used ground turkey. i had it over fussilli because DGD cannot have noodles. I just heard that it was "allright".

That's immediately where my head went!!! I've always wanted to surprise my kids with a trip to DL for Christmas, and we just might be able to do it with this OT money! I'm checking into house rentals now, which would be great for Christmas!

I just want to add that if I don't cook tonight it is the fault of my WFD friends who kept talking about Harry.. Harry this.....Harry that....chocolate frogs.....Now I can't sit without picking up a book 2 down, 5 to go !

If you made it through Book Two, by far the worst of the series, you are hooked. The series is very addicting. Even Liam and Caili knew better than to interrupt my reading unless it was for something important...like dinner

Mine too Nancy. Even my Daddy won't eat my biscuits and that is really saying something.

Biscuits are semingly simple, but hard to get right. Liam and Caili openly criticize my biscuits and say they aren't as good as Mommom's (my mom).

Big news here though, is that Alan (my DH) got escorted off mine property by the sheriff yesterday.

Good for your DH! It's the news, not public relations.

My parents one year surprised us with a Disney vacation at Christmas. We left the day after Christmas. Yes, it was really crowded, but we had a fabulous time (even though I was terribly sick New Year's Eve and missed all the festivities.)

Tonight, I had sausage, pepper, and onion pasta, plus garlic bread. Caili had a hamburger and salad. We were missing a part of our usual trio, as Liam went golfing with my dad, and is spending the night with my parents.

You guys were pretty chatty today. We were short handed at work today, so I'm beat. I had to register Alex for 7th grade where did kindergarten go!

We are having pizza made by Costco (got to love a store that cooks for you) I think I'm going to go lounge on the sofa before I go lounge on my bed. I really do hate feeling so lazy. I've too much to do. tomorrow night we go to a Minor league baseball game with the people from work. So no cooking again.

Ok pizza is done and the couch is calling me.

Thank you all for the kind words and thoughts on our furbaby loss............today had ups and downs for all of us.

Nancy- you deserve a break for sure after all you have been doing....I keep saying I should read the HP series as Ross has read them all 2x going on 3 now, I have seen all the movies though, lol.

Glynis--I am voting for the vacation as well...and thank you for the miner updates....so sad and grim....good for your DH on keeping with his ethics...what a good man he is!!!

Lori--I loved the Wanna B story...I am sure he was snickering at you running around looking for him, lol!!

Dinner tonight was--lime chicken..( I marinated the chicken for the day in Paul Newmans Lime salad dressing, then cooked under the broiler..sooo good) with shells, that I cooked with fresh peas from the farmers market and mixed in some fresh goat cheese from there as well, along with fresh cukes.
Our farmers Market is only on Thursdays from 2-6...so I try to get there every Thursday as it is a short season around here.

Ended up trying to grill some hamburgers last night. Unfortunately, I didn't take into account the 108 air temp, so I almost grilled those guys into little charcoal briquettes! At least a couple were edible. Tonight will be some sort of easy pasta and marinara sauce. Brutal heat here again today, so gotta try to keep the house as cool as possible w/o killing the AC.

I have to check what my family is up to this evening. I am helping my DS move his things into their home today and doubt that they will want to come by for dinner. DD mentioned running errands so they probably won't be home, and DH wants to cut tomorrow if we can line up enough help so I doubt he will be in early. WE'll see.

I have a little challenge coming up in two weeks and would appreciate any suggestions. My sister is not a good cook, when she has holidays I usually bring food and the rest is catered by Costco. No one complains because it is not burnt .

Anyway BIL's 50th bday is coming up and she would like to have a small dinner party for him, perhaps 20 people. She is just getting settled in her home. His brother has CP and uses one of those big power chairs, he has a roommate, also in a power chair. There will be no party without his brother, but the house is not accessible for the chairs yet. She does not think Mike can make that happen in two weeks. Her garage is brand new and painted so we can use it for the meal. Do you think we could have a decent party that would not be tacky if we used the garage, and what would you suggest. I was thinking a buffet bit with prime rib and roast pork, and floating appetizers before hand, but I'm not sure that would be the best idea. Is this too unwieldy for an indoor event that is placed sort of outdoors. I don't really want to grill becasue Mike generally does this, it's his birthday, and my grilling is not always successful. We won't even talk about my sisters....she blew the grill up and sent the cover sailing over the garage

There has to be a better way to have a nice party that will not separate Toby and his roommate from the rest of the group. Even the deck does not have a ramp .

They had a deposit on a house that they designed and it was all handicap accessible, so that my BIL brother could be totally independent when he visited but the builder is now bankrupt and they are out all of the money they placed on the house. This one was already constructed so they have not had time to make the necessary changes.

Nothing like having children to keep us my getting an inflated sense of self worth I'm very sure yours are better than mine however. My grandmother was an excellent cook and made wonderful biscuits. That skill seemed to skip my mother and me however. Oh well.


I'm not sure exactly what we are having for dinner tonight. Probably something with shrimp. It is shrimping season here and there is nothing like the taste of really fresh shrimp. What I make will depend on what size the seafood market has this afternoon and if anything else there looks really good.

Nancy, I know this may be more expensive than planned but is there a local hall that you guys can rent that is wheel chair accessible?

If not, I think a party in the garage will be fine. Decorations can spruce it up a bit. It's not the place, its the people that make the party... Maybe make foods that can be served in chafing/sternos to make it a little easier...

I think that sounds wonderful. Before joining DVC, we looked into renting a house in Orlando for our trips to give us and DD a little more space. I think a house rental would be perfect for a Christmas trip. It would give you the best of both worlds - a wonderful, fun location and a home with room for a tree to feel like it really is Christmas. It would certainly make it easier to transport some of your normal holiday traditions.

I was hoping that they could help me. I have no idea how they are going to manage the bathroom issue yet. I think that she wants to have the party in their new home but managing this during the week in such a short time frame may be iffy.

Nancy - I think the garage would be just fine, as Lauren said it's the people who make the party. I can't offer any help on the space regarding the chairs, but I'm sure Sheryl or Lindsay can help. Your ideas for the food sound great to me!
