I finally figured out WFD grilled sausage and a salad. Tomorow I'm going to try to get Alex to eat shrimp again or maybe I see if Costco still has those crabs I saw last time I was in. I have a awful taste for melted butter running down my face. Yes I'm a pig when I eat :rotfl: but I soo enjoy my food. Good thing I don't weight a million pounds;)

WFD? Nothing special - grilled bbq seasoned chicken breasts, tater tots and broccoli. DH and DS are out playing golf with DH's parents and just called to ask what was for dinner and if we had enough for inlaws. Uh, no.

Tonight's dinner was grilled shrimp with Kathy's marinade. Very Yummy!

I've read through everyone's posts, and boy do you miss a lot if you can't check in more than once per day. I've been really busy today doing laundry so I can pack the kids for camp. They are leaving tomorrow and won't be home until Friday. (Well DS and DD8 anyway, I haven't found a camp that can accomodate DD9). This is their first overnight camp and they are really excited. I hope I can drop them off and not cry until they are out of sight.

Lauren - Getting the bands is so exciting. Thank you for sharing your details, it brings back so many memories for me.

Wendie - Once again, no matter what happens from this point on you are a much better person than I. There is absolutely no way short of stapling my lips together that I could have kept my mouth shut this long.

Nancy - I think my former BF must have been very much like your father. Once I got over the initial shock of the BBQ, I began to cook some for him. He had never had some of the traditional southern delicacies and could tuck in just as well to a plate of chicken pilau or macaroni and cheese as he could to filet mignon. One of his favorites was banana pudding and fried chicken. Who would have guessed?

Laura - I don't blame you one bit. I'm not really an outdoors kind of girl and add in the bugs and I would be not only praying for rain, but I might be doing the Hopi rain dance as well.

Melanie - I hope you enjoy the shrimp and wild rice casserole. DH loved it and didn't mind at all eating the leftovers the next day.

We are going out to breakfast this morning before church so we are going to do sandwiches and chips tonight.

WFD at your house?

You are too funny!!!!! I can picture poor Buddy prowling around.:rotfl2:

We are under a heat advisory here today and with the humidity it's going to be a steamy day.

He actually wandered a little, but all kidding aside, he finally relaxed. We had guys at the farm so Marisa kept checking to make sure that they were all set, and then resigned himself that he had done all that he could. He grew up on this river and loves it, so it was nice to see him wind down. he is not a drinker and usually won't touch anything because if he is stopped the blood alcohol level for CDL's is way lower than the legal limit. There goes his license. Well we were there all day so he enjoyed a few beers, we had some amazing roast pig, ( all I could think of while I was savoring every bite was how the snooty foodie would have reacted) and watched the boats on the river.

Now try to stay cool!

I just caught up with all the "lowland" food talk. Just want to say to my New Orleans friends and any others from the "lowlands", that your food is the best around! I could eat your food any day and I'd be in heaven. I'm not a foodie and really don't want to be. I'll take my favorite southern comfort food any day!
Melanie

Me too, Melanie. All I know is that my family is is awe of the cooks on this thread and that my DD has been asking me to cook Kathy's velvet shrimp....with chicken. I almost killed my SIL the last time I cooked shrimp :rotfl:. I really did and he was offended because I laughed then too.

Our day today is 8-9:30 am -- baseball tryout (already happened...Liam did okay, but there were a lot of bigger and better kids. I can't believe some of those boys were only 8!), 11:30-1:30 -- end of season soccer jamboree, 3 pm baseball game. Like Nancy, we are going to be battling vulture-sized mosquitoes and black flies. Caili has already been bit, despite being drenched in bug repellent. It's horrible, but right now I am sitting here hoping it starts pouring rain, so everything gets canceled.

Anyway, after all that, I'm not cooking. We're heading to DSis's house. I don't know what she has planned, but I am sure it will be good.

OMG, what a day! When you have kids in sports I think that there should be an awards dinner for the parents!

I am so glad that your Sis is back, but I think that if she did not take this vacation we would not have had the opportunity to get to know you better and get your commitment to stay with our thread.

I'm back!! :)

I had a great trip and took some dinner photos too, that I'll share once I get them uploaded.

:cheer2::cheer2: I hope that you had a great time and I am looking forward to your photos. It will be almost as good as being there. ( not really but as close as I am going to get ;))

OH we know all about the history of our "deah lobstahs" they infact used to be so plentiful that they were what was fed to the servents of the homes daily......and what wasn't eaten was used in gardens for fertilizer. Then when the wealthy figured out how "wicked" delicious they were, they became only for the rich and the servents were not allowed them at all............at this time they also become over harvested and then the laws all started etc etc blahblahblahyadayadayada...............all I know is lobster every day.....I am sure it got tiring, but I for some reason just can't imagine that happening, lol!!

We do all seem to have some "interesting" family members don't we......they say there is one in every family......well we have about 5 so if anyone doesn't have one and needs one I will be happy to ship one to you.....I will even send them with a lobster or two.....:woohoo:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
:headache: :scared1: :headache: So I have figured out how to deal with this, it will, I think say more from me if I don't say anything to these things.....I came to this ephinany last night over margarita numero dos :rolleyes1 ......so I am not going to mention any of these things when I write back, and on tuesday when she talks about it all, I will just say "uh huh, right, nice, mmmhhhmmmm" and try to change the subject as much as I can..........I have also learned over time that when at their home if I don't say anything about their latest "items" that it works better and gets a bit under her skin...............plus it keeps me less riled up too..........grrrrr........................................................ok I apologize..............I rattled on and on.....................I just got the email :sad2: :rolleyes: ugh.........
Hope you are all having a great day.....it is 66 and damp and misting here....ds is cleaning his room before I end up doing it....(5 garbages bags and 5 min is all I need and he knows it, lol) dh is working.........I think I am going to take a nap........
Oh Wendi, I knew that you knew :rotfl2::rotfl2:, I just don't think that the food snobs who are swilling down meals in their five star dining rooms know the history of the dishes that they are inhaling. If they knew the background of the classics :scared:
Your cleaning style is the same that I used. Now when my DGD does not want to pick up her toys I offer to do it for her. Mad dash to the toybox :rotfl:
So your poor MIL is a martyr, is she? I like your resolution, ignore her new items and let her stew. Just keep venting here so you don't lose your resolve, we'll help you!
Sorry I've been MIA - I had that camp Sunday/Monday and then I took a roadtrip to San Antonio with my 5th graders Tuesday/Wed/Thursday. I'm still trying to catch up on sleep!! We had a great time, though - at both occasions!
Between the nature walk and the field trips I would be in a coma!
We are going to pick up my wedding band in a little while :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: and then go to dinner. Tom's bday is on Wed and this is his bday dinner...besides the one I will cook for him!!!
Have a great day!
Oh, every day is a little closer and one more thing accomplished! I'm getting excited for you :yay::yay:. Happy birthday to Tom!
I know that you are going to miss your babies. A week is a long time to let them go. They will have a ball and will never know how hard this is for you.
I know that you are gong to make the week special for DD9, although I am surprised and saddened that that there is not a camp available that caters to her. It is a shame, really.
I don't know WFD tonight. Everyone is going to be setting plants today, and I think it is going to be miserable for them. The weather is muggy and the mosquitoes are going to be monsters! I'll get an estimate from DH and go from there.
Amazing things happen on numero dos!:lmao: You weren't rattling, I was just getting interested.;)
They're really bad here too.:confused3
:banana: :yay: :dance3: and :bday: to Tom!!!!
Thanks for the bday wishes for Tom!!! Well...my band was not what I ordered!!! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: They have to remake it and assured me the new one can be done in 2 weeks...:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:
I still have to catch up with all of you...I haven't been on alot this weekend...I hope all is well.
I am doing some more Omaha stuff tonight...steak for DF...stuffed fish for DS and I, scalloped potatoes and probably broccoli. Easy but good...:)
Have a great day!
Lauren thanks for the idea I may swing by my Omaha store for some steaks and then to Costco for shrimp. Alex is going to give them another try.
So I guess it will be steak and shrimp on the barbie for us, maybe stuffed pototoes too. No dieting today;)
Your babies will be just fine, but you wouldn't be a Mom if you didn't cry a bit.:hug: They're going to have so much fun. Kyle's going to a Young Life camp in Jasper, Georgia for a week next month and I'll be crying tears of JOY!!:banana: I'll actually have my car for the week!
Nancy - Snootie foodie and the roast pig - a match made in heaven!:lmao:
Wendie - Which one of the SBR Bbq sauces is your favorite? We're going to grill some burgers for lunch and I can't decide which one to use.
WFD - I've got some veal chops marinating for tonight to grill along with sweet potato fries and grilled asparagus. YUM!!
For burgers we love the original, but the honey one is delish on chicken!!!
I'm going to go put something in my crock pot. I'm starting a new job in 2 weeks and I need lots of crockpot ideas..... anybody got any favorites?? My new hours are 12-4 so the crockpot and I need to bond.
Hi, everyone! I'm back and trying to catch up! I have tons of crockpot recipes that are really good! In the next couple of days I'll post them for you. Hope that won't be too late!
Sounds like you all had some really good meals. I'll let you know about my trip once I'm all caught up!
:yay: Glad to have you back!! Can't wait to hear all about your trip.:thumbsup2
Now you know better than to tease us. Will you post the recipe, I'm worse than the kids, I like a sweet meatloaf.
I think I posted a recipe for sweet and sour meatloaf on this thread! It's wonderful, and since you microwave it, it won't heat up your house!
Well, the weather has cleared up here...I'm going to make some chicken satay and mongolian noodles for dinner
They will have a blast! I take first time campers to camp every year and not one of them has ever had to go home early due to homesickness. Now the momma's are another story ;) I don't go to weeklong camp until July this year(we like to wait until it's hotter than hades!!!)
Last night was supposed to be Tandoori chicken and basmati rice but a dear family member ended up being at my house through the dinner hour so we went out for BBQ instead. So I had brisket, blackeyed peas, texas toast, and broccoli/rice casserole instead. YUM
DH just left with the teenagers from church - he is chaperoning youth camp again this year so he won't be home until Friday. I have 2 chicken breasts marinating in the tandoori spice marinade so I will throw them on the grill for me instead tonight. =)
