Was she excited about today? I know Nana wasn't.

The pics of the London Broil were great, loved the fleur de lis! Bob also looked very handsome and happy.;)

I decided on smothered cabbage over rice (DH could eat this every day) with Glynis' roast tonight.

Kathy, that sounds like a dish, Bob could eat every single day too!!!!

Alexis looked really scared & like she was ready to bolt when we first arrived. But right before they pushed the parents out the door, she saw one of her friends from last year & went play. Whew! She was clinging to her Mom & me before that & it looked like it was going to be a really bad morning! But then she happily waved goodbye when we left!:goodvibes

Well, Y'all I guess we can finally breath a sigh of relief, it looks like a sure thing that Dean is going to stay far from us & our Texas friends! :goodvibes

I haven't seen any pics from Jamaica yet, that must be really bad! That is such a shame, it is such a beautiful country, but they have so many very poor people there. :sad1:

My DD MBA class actually has Jamaicans visiting this week! It's part of their overseas study program. (Lucky DD, she gets to go to Paris.) Anyway, she said that most of the people visiting were from Kingston too, that has to be awful for them. DD said they have a planned outing with them tomorrow night, wonder how that is going to go now? I imagine they will probably not be able to return home on schedule either!

Have you posted the cabbage recipe? If not, I'd love to have it!!! My whole family loves cabbage!

Morning, everyone! I'll update on the miners as soon as I get word from Alan. Thanks for your prayers. There's just no way this will end well.

My kids start school tomorrow!!! All 4 will be in school this year, what will Mom do with her time????? I'm sure I'll think of something. We have back to school night tonight, to meet the teachers and find the classrooms, etc. The kids are excited, and I'm running around today to make sure we have all the school supplies, etc., that they will need for tomorrow.

Dinner tonight will be tuna pizza, if I get everything done for tomorrow. If not, we'll pick up a pizza while we're out and about. I've also got to remember to pick up stuff for lunches and breakfasts! I promised the kids waffles for tomorrow, so that's a for sure. I won't have to make much, though, because we have our annual neighborhood get together at the bus stop in the morning. Each year on the first day of school, everyone, kids, parents, etc., gathers at the bus stop. It's a way for first timers, like my twins, to be able to find the bus stop, get acquainted with the other kids, and just get the school year off to a good start. We set up tables, and serve the kids muffins, bagels and cream cheese, fruit, juice and yogurt. It's turned into a really neat thing for all the kids. We have a really great neighborhood, and this really helps the little kids feel a part of things.

Hi ya'll. I'm back home. Sent Rick packing back to Detroit this morning and now I should be working, but I just don't feel like it. Think I'm going to walk up to the casino and get my seared ahi tuna salad and go run some errands.

Thanks for all the condolences, I appreciate it. Gram's looked better than I'd seen her in awhile. My Gramp's is in a rehab center now getting better-so starting in September I'll be a dual citizen again- NOLA and Louisville. I'm going to be spending a week a month or so working on the house and cleaning, etc. Told Rick I didn't want to get rid of it so it's going to be our "retreat house". I can finally have all those things that I've missed by living in the city- a hot tub, a garden, a patio. Dcousin's fiance lives there for now too so that'll be a help, and I can help out when (and if) Gramp's comes home. So if need be we can caravan there for the hurricanes! Thanks for all the offers of somewhere to stay too!

No recipe really. I just saute some onion and garlic (smoked sausage or tasso if I have it on hand) in olive oil. Throw in the chopped cabbage and creole seasoning and let it cook down slowly. My Mom used to throw in some potatoes too!

Hi ya'll. I'm back home.

Thanks for all the condolences, I appreciate it. Gram's looked better than I'd seen her in awhile.

Welcome home my friend. I said the same thing about Mom, she looked beautiful.

Lori, Glad to have you back home! Take it easy & don't work too hard just yet. Again, so sorry. Are you going to be flying back & forth or driving? That could get pretty tiring. Glad to hear that you'll have a place to get out of the city though, that will be nice.

Today's linner menu is set. We are having a couple of different kinds of fish. I got some flounder and Laura is going to make that tomato-basil cream sauce she posted a photo of a while back, and I also got scallops, which I am searing and serving over some herbed risotto. I am also making mozzarella-stuffed eggplant fritters, and an arugula salad. The only thing I have not figured out what to do with yet is the bluefish. It does not really fit in with the rest of the menu. Hmm....

OH MY!! ...i just saw the pictures of your mozz. stuffed eggplant fritters..can you say drool:thumbsup2 ..is the recipe for that one on the front page?? i NEED to try those...

This thread is great, sorry for not being very contributing lately..WFD last night were yummy chicken sausages with baked beans. simple yet yummy..then i made homeade strawberry shortcakes :)
Tonight..leftovers...fun fun ;)

DH and I are taking the kids to Plimouth Plantation and to the Mayflower today, and then Caili skates late this afternoon. I was originally planning to make chicken burritos for dinner tonight, but I know my bottomless pit hubby will never survive waiting to eat until after Caili's lesson, so we will probably end up eating out instead.

Have you ever had the meal offered there? We enjoyed it so much and even my sisters fussy kids tried everything.

PS- I know I know!!!!!!! ITA with Kathy----it's a nice secret!!!!!!!!!:dance3:

Nancy - Still praying for good news from the families.

I am going to call the camp tonight and see if anyone has had a call from home.

Hi ya'll. I'm back home. Sent Rick packing back to Detroit this morning and now I should be working, but I just don't feel like it.

Lori- it takes time to get back to sort of normal. I did not cook for a while and when I did I kept burning things...my kitchen was in danger for months.

My Mom looked so beautiful too. I think all the pain was finally gone and she was at peace. Her face reflected that.

Take care my friend and don't ask too much of yourself.....just do what you can. It is good that your cousin is close by to help with your Gramps. Both of you will be wonderful for him.

Don't stay away... just stop ion and say Hi.

Kathy- the cabbage sounds so good. Now that it feels like Fall here I am thinking Fall dishes :thumbsup2

I peeked at your temps down in NO while they are definitely hotter they humidity is lower than here. I may be coming down there. We have had to much rain here.

I need to get something in gear, my vac is coming up and I haven't lost much weight. I think I may try not reading this thread for a while, so I can be strong and resist the yummy dinners you all are having while I'm becoming a bunny eating lettuce and carrots. Feel sorry for me yet?:rotfl2:

I off to find something lowcal for dinner.

Please blow some of that down here!;)

I would if I could. It is raining and COLD today, Jeff was grilling the salmon with his umbrella :lmao:

Sheryl- I forgot to tell you that your handsome hubby looks just like I pictured him. A while back you were telling us some of the compliments he gave you on a meal and I could see him smiling :).

Same here! We love smothered cabbage! YUM!

Well Hello there! Please post some of the meals you have and maybe share some recipes. :thumbsup2

Tonight the salmon was maple glazed and planked. I used a dry rub of my own chili powder and brown sugar and glazed it with a reduction of maple syrup and butter, topped with maple bacon. It was good. We also had a ham steak that I pan fried because the girls did not want the fish anywhere near their ham :confused3. We also had a tomato and onion salad, broccoli and roasted onion potatoes.

Are you talking about the Thanksgiving meal? DH and his family did that one year, but I never have. As for what we ate today, we ate at a psuedo-Mexican restaurant (they didn't have much shrimp on the menu, so safer for Liam than all the clamshacks) and it was edible and cheap. That's about all I can say, except that I ate at 3 and I am still full.

I can't believe everyone knows the secret except me! I'm going to have to get the kids involved in infiltration.

Nancy, your dinner sounded so yummy! I love planked salmon.

Ladies, if I miss anyone, please forgive me...I can't catch up! I send all of you hugs...

Glynis, what wonderful news about Noah! God bless!

Lauren, I've never made them with spinach, but I'm sure that would work if you cooked and drained the spinach before putting them in the fritter. If you put the spinach in raw, it would exude too much moisture and your fritters would be soggy. Also, the Sunday magazine this week suggested salting the zucchini for 30 minutes before adding it to the fritters to eliminate some of the liquid.

Thanks Laura! I wound up making them with just zucchini. They were good but I put basil in the mix and really didn't care for that too much.

It's Monday and NO BEANS & RICE !! I told the guys I need to deviate from this every Monday and they listened!:thumbsup2 So I'm doing Glynis' roast and whatever else looks good at the store.

Have a good one!

Yeah! Kathy got her wish!!!

I didn't post yesterday because we were busy replacing my fridge. The stupid thing went out Friday night, ruining everything in it, including the fresh flounder I had purchased for dinner. We ate out on Saturday and Kenny grilled steaks I had in the freezer last night. The new one was just delivered so I should be able to get things back to normal in my kitchen.

Tonight's dinner is pizza - cheese for the kids and BBQ shrimp and bacon for Kenny and I.

Sorry about this...

I'm back. DS11 started middle school today and I will have my days free again, until I find a part-time job.

WFD? Tonight I'm making either teriyaki or Korean rubbed salmon, orzo and broccoli.

Welcome back!
Alexis started school today! Insert Crying Nana Face here!!! :sad1: That means I won't have any excuses for not having a clean house, ugh! She won't go back until Friday though, so tomorrow DH is going to take off & we're going to take her to the Aquarium.

But I did cook Lauren's Vietnamese Marinated London Broil!!!!!! :cool1: It was unbelievably yummy!!! It has a sort of sweet barbecue taste that was so delicious! Lauren, DH & I were just thinkin of everything that would be so yummy marinated in that! Pork ribs, chicken legs would be so great too! I think I'm gonna try a few different things with it & then maybe have a big barbecue on Labor Day for the family!!!

Lauren thanks so much for the recipe!! :goodvibes :thumbsup2

I am glad Alexis had a good day at school. I keep telling myself that I will do a better job at cleaning when Andrew goes back!!!

I am glad you liked the marinade. It is very good on chicken. Tom does not like chix on the bone so I really do not make it. The Vietnamese lady told me before putting the chix in marinade to scrap the skin with a knife. I am not sure what it does...maybe holds the liquid better.

Here's a few pics of the great meal we had yesterday! With Lauren's London Broil, we also had Becky's really yummy pineapple coconut rice!!!! That was great too! :thumbsup2
My DH is really starting to appreciate all my dissing!!!
And also made an asian slaw that I'll post a recipe for later.

Here's the pics:

Lauren's Vietnamese Marinated London Broil with a New Orleans spin!

How do y'all like my Fleur de Lis Brands my DH had the guys at work make for me?! Oh, Lauren I did add a few splashes of that Asian Chile Sauce to the marinade (the one with the rooster on it) & then fresh ground black pepper before serving. Ya'll know we like it spicy down here!

Love the pics and your brand!!! You have a very handsome hubby!!

Hi ya'll. I'm back home. Thanks for all the condolences, I appreciate it. Gram's looked better than I'd seen her in awhile.

Lori glad youre back.

My Dad looked very much at peace when he died. Funny story...when the funeral director brought us in for the first time, she asked us if my Dad always had this one mark on his face...well, everyone looked at me!!! I was the one that shaved him every couple days and I nicked him pretty bad and it left a mark...oh well, he did look good. :)

I feel sorry for you since I am in the same boat. Summer is a hard time to lose weight with all the BBQs and yummy drinks!!!!

Have a great night all!

Anyone else upset about the menu change at Wolfgang Puck's? They took the crabcake appetizer off, the steak entree and the chocolate fondue dessert!!! I am going to cancel but am having a hard time deciding what to replace it with. We need a place at DTD because it's our Cirque Du Soleil night. For some reason the menu at Raglan Road doesn't appeal to me at all, I'm thinking Rainforest Cafe. Anyone care to tell my why Raglan Road is so appealing, please, I'm in need of my buddies help.:flower3:

I am going to try RR when I go...I can tell you how it is...I have heard good things but can't think of any off the top of my head...of course...;)

I think Stephanie was just there and enjoyed it...it's a Irish bar...if the food is not good the drinks surely will be!!! :lmao:
