I hope that we hear from Glynis while she is at her mothers, as I just heard that there was another collapse at the mine, and I just hope that her husband is ok. Prayers for them all.

Thanks for your concern. Alan is fine. He was actually travelling to my mother's house when the second collapse happened. It's such a horrible thing. We just got word that Alan is heading back to the mine tomorrow morning. It looks like they are going to drill one more hole, and then, if they don't find anything, they are going to blast the mine closed and have a memorial for the miners. It will be a forever tomb. So sad!

Hey WFD guys and gals, I need your help with something. You guys are very wise and creative so I thought I would post it here instead of starting a completely new thread :) Warning: it has nothing to do with cooking!

Something you need to know: I do FlyLady and this doesn't really fall under their help.

I have to have some help cleaning my house. Being a paraplegic, I can't get on my hands and knees to clean my husband's shower. It's a tub-shower. A normal person would just kneel by the tub and scrub it, lean a little bit and get the shower walls, right? Well, here's my problem.

My grandmother normally comes and helps me clean things like this every other week or so. She is down with a bad foot a rotator cuff problems, so obviously, she can't help me. I am trying to come up with a way for me to clean his shower. Do any of you have any thoughts or ideas on how to not make this a back-breaking process for me?

I will go take a pic of the shower, maybe that will help.

Any and all help/advice appreciated.

Lindsay, you are so beautiful! With and without the makeup!!!

As to the cleaning, There is a Mr. Clean (I think) all purpose scrubber that is on a long handle that you could probably use for cleaning the shower. (By the way, I'm a flybaby, too!!!).

I have been trying to reach a friend in Jamaica and I can't get through. He is not right on the shore.

Nancy, I messed up my quote, but I just wanted to say I am praying for everyone who are trying to get in touch with loved ones. This is such a sad, sad situation.

Hi, friends! As you can see I'm back. I'm so incredibly exhausted!!! Seeing 4 plays in 3 days is a bit much!! However, they were all really good, so I'm glad that I saw them all! My brother and his fiance showed up while we were there, so we got some good wedding planning done! They will be married in 3 weeks, and it's going to be so neat!!! I'll be taking pictures for you to "enjoy"!

We got home this morning about 9:30, just in time to clean up and get to church. Luckily, I didn't need to cook, because we went to my SIL's house for dinner after church. Her son and his wife have been in the process of adopting a baby, and the 6 months of waiting are up!!! They go to court tomorrow morning to finalize the adoption, and so we celebrated tonight! We had chicken salad, frittatas, tons of fruit, bagels, fresh tomatoes, cheesecake, and my personal favorite, OREOS!!! It was fun! What a happy occasion. We are so thrilled that Noah is in our family forever!!!

Things at the mine are getting exceptionally tense! The families are now coming out and saying that they are fed up with the owner, and how he is handling things. I'm concerned that it may get ugly from now on!

I'm so glad that your situation is looking better! Please know that this "sister" in Utah would be happy to have you come here. Any of you NOLA people!

Glynis---Congrats on the new nephew....what a wonderful day tomorrow will be knowing he is now a part of your lives forever!! Glad you had a nice time at your mothers.

Also--Glad Alan is safe....what a sad sad situation for all involved....

Nancy--I hope that you get word soon on your friends, and that your workers family members are all safe as well.
You have had one heck of a week....I think a night out should be on the menu for you!
Thank you for the kind words on Kris' Gm....much appreciated.

I cannot imagine how these families are coping throughout this tragedy. I don't know what could have been done differently, but if the treatment that Alan received from the owner is an example of his leadership and his decision making, then I think that he will have a lot to answer for. He was responsible for getting those men out of the mine, not for attempting to contain a publicity nightmare and in this he failed miserably :sad1:.

The plays and the visit must have been wonderful, albeit exhausting! The wedding planning exciting, but finally having Noah an "official" member of your family the frosting on your cake! I'm going to have Oreos to celebrate as well. I am so happy for your family.

Tonight I am making soft tacos and Spanish rice. Mmm mmm mmm!! :)

WFD at your house?

ETA: DOH!!! I bought a Mr. Clean Magic Reach forever ago and forgot I had it! So I picked up some extra scrubbing pad and gave it a whirl. It worked AWESOME except for one little thing: rinsing it off without giving myself a bath in the process. I will get the hang of it, it will just take some practice.

Thanks to all of you who gave me suggestions!! :hippie:

Well Sweetie, I know it is not funny, but I can't scrub my shower without taking a bath either, and I have no reason to explain it :confused3. Welcome to my little wet club.

I meant to tell you yesterday that your photos are so nice. My DDIL and my DSIL use Bare Escentuals and I cannot believe the transformation! Both have lovely completions, as do you, but after using the powders they really pack a punch.

I am cooking salmon today maybe on a plank. I don't know what else because the girls don't like fish. Maybe something will grab me when I stop in at the market.

Morning all. Last night I finally ended up making the Buffalo Chicken Lasagna. It was really yummy--DH loved it. I think the next time, though, I would shred the chicken instead of cubing it, and shred the pepper jack too and incorporate it like mozerella in traditional lasagna instead of just on the top. Yummy in any case! Tonight, not sure yet. I bought some pork chops at the store the other day, and should really use those. Will let ya'll know when I come up with something

good morning friends....

Ross is sleeping at the inlaws tonight and Kris is working late sooooo, supper will end up being a little of whatever I grab and eat by myself, lol. I will get Ross' school supplies and clothes set up, as I can work late in his room tonight. I might work on packing a bit too, as we are hoping to go to Bar Harbor this weekend if the weather will be nice, a little end of summer treat. Ross starts school next Tuesday :(

Have a good day all!!

Hey All!

I am rushing out the door but wanted to drop in (we have a dr appoint for A up by my Mom so we are heading there). We are going to have the chicken kabobs that we never had the other day, and we have alot of salad and vegetables that I will do something with.

Becky or anyone else, Do you think I can make a fritter pancake type dish with zucchini and spinach (egg, garlic, parmesan, flour)? I have done zucchini alone but have alot of spinach I'd like to use...TIA!

I am praying for all affected by the mining tragedy and the hurricane.

Have a great day!!!

Nancy -- I hope you and your workers hear good news from friends and family members in Jamaica soon.

Glynis -- Congratulations on welcoming Noah as part of your extended family! Your SIL must be so happy to have a new grandson. I am also glad to hear your DH stayed safe amid the mine tragedy. That situation does not seem like it will end happily.

DH and I are taking the kids to Plimouth Plantation and to the Mayflower today, and then Caili skates late this afternoon. I was originally planning to make chicken burritos for dinner tonight, but I know my bottomless pit hubby will never survive waiting to eat until after Caili's lesson, so we will probably end up eating out instead.

Lauren, I've never made them with spinach, but I'm sure that would work if you cooked and drained the spinach before putting them in the fritter. If you put the spinach in raw, it would exude too much moisture and your fritters would be soggy. Also, the Sunday magazine this week suggested salting the zucchini for 30 minutes before adding it to the fritters to eliminate some of the liquid.

Thanks sis!;)

Nancy - Still praying for good news from the families.

Glynis - Please update us on the miners if you get word from Alan, I hope thing don't turn ugly, but with that owner, doesn't look promising.:sad2:

It's Monday and NO BEANS & RICE !! I told the guys I need to deviate from this every Monday and they listened!:thumbsup2 So I'm doing Glynis' roast and whatever else looks good at the store.

Have a good one!

Good morning everyone.

Nancy - Kenny was watching the storm last night very intently. We visited Jamaica on our cruise and thought the people there were very friendly and have hopes to return on a future visit. We have both been praying for the safety of everyone in the path of that storm.

Glynis - I'm very glad to hear about your new nephew and to hear your husband is safe. I am heartbroken for the families of those miners and cannot imagine their anguish.

I didn't post yesterday because we were busy replacing my fridge. The stupid thing went out Friday night, ruining everything in it, including the fresh flounder I had purchased for dinner. We ate out on Saturday and Kenny grilled steaks I had in the freezer last night. The new one was just delivered so I should be able to get things back to normal in my kitchen.

Tonight's dinner is pizza - cheese for the kids and BBQ shrimp and bacon for Kenny and I.

I'm back. DS11 started middle school today and I will have my days free again, until I find a part-time job.

WFD? Tonight I'm making either teriyaki or Korean rubbed salmon, orzo and broccoli.

Morning Y'all!

Gretchen, Sorry about your fridge & the flounder. Glad you have a new one!

Becky, Food looks spectacular as usual! :thumbsup2 The fizzy margarita looks & sounds great too! Did you use a truffle oil to make the butter? & is that what you topped the lamb chops with?

Alexis started school today! Insert Crying Nana Face here!!! :sad1: That means I won't have any excuses for not having a clean house, ugh! She won't go back until Friday though, so tomorrow DH is going to take off & we're going to take her to the Aquarium.

I didn't start cooking any of the fish or other seafood in my freezer yet. Cause My BIL called yesterday & said he had a fresh flounder for me! So that's what's for dinner tonight, stuffed with a crab meat dressing I think.

But I did cook Lauren's Vietnamese Marinated London Broil!!!!!! :cool1: It was unbelievably yummy!!! It has a sort of sweet barbecue taste that was so delicious! Lauren, DH & I were just thinkin of everything that would be so yummy marinated in that! Pork ribs, chicken legs would be so great too! I think I'm gonna try a few different things with it & then maybe have a big barbecue on Labor Day for the family!!!

Lauren thanks so much for the recipe!! :goodvibes :thumbsup2

Here's a few pics of the great meal we had yesterday! With Lauren's London Broil, we also had Becky's really yummy pineapple coconut rice!!!! That was great too! :thumbsup2
My DH is really starting to appreciate all my dissing!!!
And also made an asian slaw that I'll post a recipe for later.

Here's the pics:

How do y'all like my Fleur de Lis Brands my DH had the guys at work make for me?! Oh, Lauren I did add a few splashes of that Asian Chile Sauce to the marinade (the one with the rooster on it) & then fresh ground black pepper before serving. Ya'll know we like it spicy down here!

My DH getting ready to enjoy it, with a tasty Mai Tai! We had a cool front come through,;) temps only in the low 90's, so we were able to dine
alfresco!!

So sorry about the flounder, umm I mean the fridge.;)

Was she excited about today? I know Nana wasn't.

The pics of the London Broil were great, loved the fleur de lis! Bob also looked very handsome and happy.;)

I decided on smothered cabbage over rice (DH could eat this every day) with Glynis' roast tonight.
