The Official VILLAS at DISNEYLAND HOTEL (Discovery Tower) Owners and Fans Info Thread

What a downer. DCA has been 9-10pm for a while now, but DL at 11 is awful. We have younger kids, live local, and RARELY stay past 10:30, but many of the best memories of my childhood (teen hood) are the low crowds and extra rides from 11:30-12:00.

Really think Disney is cannibalizing its next generation of die hards to save a few pennies (or extract some extra bucks) today. Private equity style management.

We would frequently stay at DCA until 10pm and then head over to DLand until midnight…. The shorter lines and lower crowds really made us feel like we were getting our money’s worth out of staying on-site…

We have always been stay as late as possible people.

Some our best memories with our kids has been staying late. I remember being at DLR with my daughter when she was 10 on 12/23 it was a light drizzle and very late we felt alone in the park and it was amazing.

Yes, magical memories!

Most teenagers are not “early riser” people they are “night owls”…. This move pushes people out of DCA and into DL earlier and then those extra hours will be more crowded and less “magical”….

Thankfully, we don't really "need" more points for a couple more years (probably.) So I'm definitely going to be keeping my eye on things. Well, I'll have to rely on all of you to tell me how booking looks since I can't see any of it as a lowly resale-only person. Ha!
As you keep your eye on things, consider checking out the Fixed Week thread:

Apologies in advance if it impacts your DVC purchases as much as it did mine. 🤣
We typically stay 6 nights but often consider adding a 7th night.

There is your answer... fixed week 1 bedroom and no worries on being able to snag a 1 bedroom anymore
This was why I asked. But I am biased.

Fixed Weeks in June are 300+ points, that wouldn’t work for someone who is likely to bank/borrow to alternate between VDH and VGC.

Absolutely if thats the way you choose to use FW.

I’m in the camp of, “I need 150 pts”…why not choose a FW49/50 studio (or make it a duo studio + a small contract to get to 150) as an added feature? Heck, make it a June UY if most years I bank/borrow and opt out of the FW feature!

But once the kids are out of the house and me and spouse want to go to RRV to basque in WDW xmas glory? We got guaranteed rooms that requires walking at the busiest season in the system.

Yeah, definitely wouldn't work for us.

That's great that you've found what works for your family. We're still trying to figure out what the future will hold for us. I do know that we'd never pick VDH for every single vacation. If we end up wanting points here, it would be to alternate between VGC trips and also possibly use some of the points at WDW once our BRV contract expires. Direct points would be good at that time since so many of the non-restricted resorts will be gone.
