The Official VILLAS at DISNEYLAND HOTEL (Discovery Tower) Owners and Fans Info Thread

We're members! Thanks for the info.
For what it's worth, during our last visit (Feb 2024) the maid service kept replenishing our Kpods each morning with Joffrey's regular and decaf.

I know, I know, DVC members don't get maid service unless staying so many days. Basically, they would come in collect the trash and give us more Kpods. Not sure if that's typical.

That was not our experience (June 2024), however when we happened to be in the room when they did the the trash they did ask if we needed anything and that was an option of what they had. For us, we went to the front desk. The first CM was not helpful at all and couldn't even figure out how to put in the request, a manager came over and went to a plastic bin and grabbed spare k-cups and then went to the back and found condiment kits.

New to this, sorry for the dumb question. Is there a proper time to make a room request? When would be considered too early or too late? TIA
I submit my requests as soon as I know what they are for a given reservation. Reportedly, room assignments are made 5-7 days before checkin, so you might consider after that “too late,” but more than a few guests stop at the front desk on arrival and are able to get something more to their liking if their request wasn’t initially granted. Requests are never guaranteed, so sometimes you get it, sometimes you don’t.

This was our experience in Dec 2023 as well!

I book at 7 months and call Member Services within a few days to add my room number requests. Stayed in 1 bedroom couple weeks ago. I gave MANY possible room numbers (wanted to face Monorail slides and grand Californian). Instead we got the new Palette Pool.

Hopefully, you’ll get better luck since there are so many studios.

Hey all! I am a die hard VGC fan but recently became a VDH owner. Excited for our upcoming stay in Feb!

I was a little shocked by the lack of availability when I logged in. I honestly thought studios would be plentiful. I assume this is because the sales have just started?

Correct...

On another note and I don't think this impacts the studio demand, but the studio points chart is a little less at VDH vs VGC. Of course this gets offset as you have the tax to pay at VDH when checking out. I only mention this as during our last stay we switch to a duo. We had a few straggler points remaining. This switch allowed us to add an extra night increasing from 3 nights to 4. Made for a more relaxed and not rushed trip.

Per @ehh, they seem to be slow walking declaring more rooms to DVC as much as they can to get the cash reservations.

You should be able to pull some magic with a “welcome home” stay that they can pull from the cash inventory.

I was able to get a 2 bedroom in Feb :) But was looking at availability and thought it would be more wide open. Good thing I have both properties to choose from now.

Unfortunately the Duo's are too small for us at least for another 9 years.

Not a VDH owner but just seeking some general info as our trip is coming up soon (Aug 24th) and I have a few questions that I wasn't sure if I should post here or on over on the DL section of the boards?! (Or maybe a combo of both.) So here goes....

1) Does DVC get discounts on food or merch at DL like we do at WDW?
2) Is there a little store or shop at VDH like at most of the resorts at WDW?
3) If we have a resort / pool day is there a quick service place to grab some lunch or do we have to leave the resort to go to another hotel to find some light food?
4) What / where is the closet grocery store? We'll likely want to stop for a few things.
5) Is alcohol / beer sold in the grocery stores in CA or do we need to go to a special ABV store?
6) How long is the walk to the parks? Do we go to VGC to get in? (I remember going thru an entrance there the last time we were at DL many years ago.)
7) Are there wine glasses in the studios?
8) We have a standard hearing accessible studio booked - is there any info avail. somewhere about room locations for those? I was wondering if there's any point for any room requests or if there's so few of them no need to bother. Maybe "higher floor" or something?
9) We will be renting a car - it's my understanding we'll get free parking - do we just need to have our DVC member card available on our phones to get in / out?

I'm sure I'll have other questions before we go but these were just some things I was wondering about. I saw somewhere earlier that they have Keurigs so that's one question answered. TIA!! :)

1) Does DVC get discounts on food or merch at DL like we do at WDW? Yes, plus you get a discount on QS as well.
2) Is there a little store or shop at VDH like at most of the resorts at WDW? Unfortunately, Not really (and our biggest gripe). There are small items in the hotel shop, but nowhere near everything you see in WDW (baked goods, frozen food, lots of condiments. etc). Most people order through a delivery service.
3) If we have a resort / pool day is there a quick service place to grab some lunch or do we have to leave the resort to go to another hotel to find some light food? Yes. You have direct access to the Pool Breeze Bar at the DVC pool, plus Tangaroa Terrace is immediately adjacent to the pools. Not as good as Craftsman Grill at GCH, but ok.
4) What / where is the closet grocery store? We'll likely want to stop for a few things. The closest grocery store is Target on Harbor Blvd., about 1-3/4 miles away.
5) Is alcohol / beer sold in the grocery stores in CA or do we need to go to a special ABV store? Beer, wine and hard liquor are sold at all grocery stores. Hard liquor can also be purchase at "liquor stores" (non-chain convenience type stores that have licenses to sell liquor). Beer and wine can also be purchased at Target's, Walmart, etc., and convenience stores such as 7-11 and Circle K.
6) How long is the walk to the parks? Do we go to VGC to get in? (I remember going thru an entrance there the last time we were at DL many years ago.) From VDH, the walk to the Esplanade between DL and DCA is about 10 minutes (give or take with security) as a causal stroll. You can also access DCA via the Pixar Palace entrance which is about a 5-7 minute walk from the Discovery Tower.
7) Are there wine glasses in the studios? I think there were last time we were there, but not sure.
8) We have a standard hearing accessible studio booked - is there any info avail. somewhere about room locations for those? I was wondering if there's any point for any room requests or if there's so few of them no need to bother. Maybe "higher floor" or something? Not sure, best to call the hotel.
9) We will be renting a car - it's my understanding we'll get free parking - do we just need to have our DVC member card available on our phones to get in / out? You do not need your card, you will be given a placard to place on your dashboard when you enter the parking lot the first time.
Here you go.

Thank you for all the details. This will be our first time at DL that's for more than 2 or 3 nights and our first time venturing out with a car to sightsee in SoCal. We've been to WDW over 30x but only to DL 2x and it's been 10 years or so since our last trip there. I've been so busy I really haven't done any "real" planning for anything other than making a list of ideas on a sheet of notebook paper! LOL. But I'm already thinking about starting to pack because I'm "Anal Annie"!! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Here’s a good summary article of the new stuff coming to Disneyland. Not sure if any of these new rides will be surrounding VDH. Maybe the Avatar Way of Water.

Everything they announced except for the Walt show in the Main Street Opera house is for California Adventure so it won't be at the Disneyland hotel doorstep. Perhaps we will get an announcement for something in 2026.
Dca very much needs the capacity so I don't mind that is where everything announced is going.
