The Official VILLAS at DISNEYLAND HOTEL (Discovery Tower) Owners and Fans Info Thread

Yes - there's always (I think?) been a 10% premium/upcharge on points for a fixed week but... whenever you cancel for a year you have all those points you can use however you want. So the ease of mind of having the fixed/favorite week costs you when you actually use it but just means you have a crap ton of points when you don't.
Yeah, I know they publish the 10% premium and for most weeks it checks out, though I was hypothesizing that they could probably get away with going over an average 10% by sticking to 10% over the high side of points on high-variability weeks, like they did with W52.

Rather than tediously checking every single week, I checked aggregates and was happy to find they did average 10%, which indicates they aren't doing that.

Explain to me why
The resale process is brutally slow.
To shed some light on my resales. I have one resale that is on day 70 and we still have not closed. Another on day 7 from offer accepted and not sent to ROFR yet. Then there is an another contract that I have been talking to a broker about attempting to make an offer, I first contacted him 20 days ago and I still dont know if he presented my offer yet or not because he keeps asking me questions and when I answer it takes him 4 days to respond to me and then he will have another question.

Direct is so so easy and immediate satisfaction. (at a premium I know)

Direct is fantastic from that perspective.

You press a few buttons on the DocuSign and BOOM… the points get loaded….

Years ago when my second attempt to buy a resale got ROFRed after the first attempt got cancelled due to an error on the contract after 2 months into the process, I decided to go direct and was amazed how quick and easy it was. I was in EPCOT when I got the ROFR call and had the direct points in my account a few hours later. It was so satisfying after about 5 months of trying to get a contract closed.

I am struggling trying to decide if I should add another 100 pts to my 200 pt purchase at VDH. The availability under 7 months has me nervous. I want to be able to book a night here and there for special events that typically don't have dates released far in advance, like Star Wars night etc.

Also, when do we expect dues info? I assume it's after 11/01?

Usually the proposed budgets, including dues calculations, are published in early November so they can be approved at the board meeting in December. Now that each condo association has its own quarterly meeting, I'd expect budget approval to occur at those meetings rather than the general meeting scheduled for Dec. 12.

Thanks! My cut off to add more points is 11/01, so looks like I wont know in time to make a decision.

First stay in the two bedroom. Really nice villa. Now into the tower’s second year, having its anniversary September 28! Showing some unfortunate wear like small dents in the lower area of refrig/freezer. Come on people do better than banging into things lol. Maintenance was quick to fix a loose handle on the inside of glass door in primary bathroom. Go Brad!
No special requests made. Went random for even or odd numbered room. Got odd (palette pool side). Feel the balcony on that side is better. Not tucked in like the front even rooms with that large end piece that jets out. (Tinkerbell area). Instead on back side, the north side end of the balcony has the clear plexiglass extending out from the side wall approx 30 inches, giving great panoramic views from westward to the north/east, with a view through the gap between Fantasy & Adventure tower. Actually can get a park view from the opposite side of the tower because those two bedroom dedicated are on the tower’s north end! Could see the monorail make its turn after leaving the station and the stacks of the Mark Twain with its steam. Also the top peak of Thunder Mountain. Depending on the floor. Fireworks will be even visible from those back side balconies. I’ll be getting some ‘views from the room’ for that VDH thread soon. That city view (beyond the “bubble”) is better than you might think. The balcony of the dedicated two bedrooms is out from the primary bedroom. (Balconies of the one bedrooms are out from the living room/kitchen portion).

Cant wait to see the photos.

I think Disney is going to regret using less quality materials. Cheaper up front more money in the long term . VGC is old and needs a refurb but the materials held up really really well IMO.

Glad had opportunity to make a villa a bit better for the next guest. Room #1001. Dedicated two bedroom. First the inside metal bar on door to a toilet loose…fixed. Then went to use the awesome & deep soaker tub. The stopper wouldn’t keep water from draining. I was in awe..there wasn’t even a gasket on it. Did anyone use the tub in the past year? LOL? Also the vague list of kitchen items can be found inside an entrance area closet door. Unlike our Florida trips, VDH just has butter knives with slight serrated blades. No other kitchen knives! Got one delivered. This low budget ‘El Cheapo’ interior design products simply sucks. TV’s are large and pretty awesome though.

Seems the current trend on new villas as well as refurbs is to go cheap cheap cheap. I really hate the Marriott vibe and all that beige that is coming with other refurbs. We have our first trip to VDH in February in a 1 BR. We are very excited none the less. We are also thinking about a VGC add on from the resale market, but will wait and see how things go.

Also we are used the 1br in BWV, BLT and OKW. The new layout does not really seem to have a kitchen, just a wall of appliances. How does that work (or not) Any insights as to the layout and configuration as a whole?

Correct the galley but a very solid dining table. Not as much counter spaces as OKW but nice kitchen. Used oven, microwave & coffee maker most. (dual with pot and kcups). Not much or should say any pantry space unless use the entry closets by stackable washer/dryer. 👍🏻

Well…it’s 11:50pm..sitting out on the 10th story balcony. Phone charger plugged into outlet. On the side table.,.coffee, orange juice, Wetzels pretzels, and a couple bottles of water, looking out over the city lights, unwinding relax mode, after an amazing Oogie Boogie evening. VDH stays have been the best!
