HA HA, spoilers welcome. As if there are people that don't know this story.

My theater already has limited seating for opening night 7/18. This one is going to be BIG.

I’m on the fence about seeing this. I really, really don’t like Beyoncé and it just seems like the movie is going to revolve around her. I’m already sick of the advertising.

I’m just not interested in ‘live action’ movies from an animated. I read there’s rumours of doing a live version of Nightmare. That would be awful, and I love Nightmare.

There has to be some different term to describe what this will be. How can they call it live when every single image is CGI? My son is a videophile and I’m sure he’d cringe at my ignorance but I just don’t get it. :confused3

Pretty much everything you said. My middle son really wants to go. I am trying convince my husband to take him so I don't have to! Hopefully he can wait for it to come out on the Disney Plus. I have thankfully avoided the commercials for this movie.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I have listened to the soundtrack. Music is pretty good except what I consider the most powerful Disney Villain song ever they BUTCHERED! I was so excited to see it on the big screen. Sadly since listening to my favorite song I'm prepared to be let down for "Be Prepared". Movie time for me and Mom is tomorrow at 6:30pm.

The voices of Scar and Nala are getting panned in the reviews. The person who plays Nala doesn’t even try to minimize her Southern accent. Very flat acting.

Many reviews I read said the film’s images are spectacular but the heart of the film is gone.

Just saw it with my 4 year old. The critics are plain wrong.

It’s beautiful, well done, close enough to the original to be really classic (as opposed to the Jungle book remake, imho), but just different enough to also be interesting when you know the original by heart.

It’s like an artist that changes just enough on stage to add to an album version of a song, without changing too much that you don’t enjoy it.

I didn’t find anything that hit the infamous ‘uncanny valley’ - maybe the hyenas, but it seems intentional.

Also the critics say that the animals are too realistic to dance etc, I think they handled it beautifully.

Seth Rogen’s Pumbaa was A W E S O M E.

Beyoncé is a bad actress but she has like maybe 10 lines, and makes up for it with the amazing singing.

Amazing soundtrack.

Overall, a truly magical movie.

The first remake I think I would watch alongside the original more than once.

I found it to have just as much soul as the original, if not more.

Nala is Beyoncé, she’s really a bad actress but like I said, they gave her about 10 lines so it’s not a big deal. Her singing totally makes up for it.

I hate Beyoncé. Luckily she has like 10 lines, it’s really not about her, it’s just hype.

I wish any of her songs would be as good as the two she sang in the movie, then I wouldn’t mind my wife listening to her so much lol :)

Took the grand kids today. The 2-1/2 yr-old who loves the animated version sat through it fine. She was a tad talkative, but the movie held her interest.

The 5-yr-old drank too much soda and needed 3 potty breaks.

The just-turned-8-yr-old enjoyed it.

Overall, I liked the CGI. I was bummed that Rafiki didn't hold baby Simba toward the heavens to say, "Behold the only thing greater than you."

I was even more bummed that Mufasa in the clouds didn't tell Simba, "You are more than you have become." I thought that statement was profound in dealing with a wayward teenager.

Just saw it. Wasn't sure I really wanted to but DS really wanted to go and we have AMC A-List so didn't hand over extra money for it. Prior to movie they let too much PR depend on Beyonce and of course as soon as it's ready to release she uses it to PR herself. The media they focused on her at the premiere which was a true disservice to the real actors who carried the movie. But I told myself that Nala is such a small part in the movie and hopefully there won't be much focus. Just don't understand why Disney felt the need to hire a "celebrity" for a part when they aren't even an actor for such a collaborative movie.

CGI was great, detail amazing, DH couldn't stop talking about it. If you are one to really look at it in detail a few scenes were not to my liking .. mostly large animal scenes where the perspectives were off, animals not in proportion to each other and surroundings. A few animals talking didn't work. But overall visually beautiful.

I was one who was NOT HAPPY that we didn't have original stars for Timon, Pumba and Scar. I didn't think they could make it work. Well Timon & Pumba were excellent, they made it their own, some new jokes and honestly they were the stars of the show. I really loved Simba, more than the original. He created his own style character, love his voice and it worked. Not sure why all hate on Scar .... while Iron's Scar was evil in a powerful way, this one was a beaten down struggling lion that became evil in different way, I was okay with the voice actor since his story was slightly different. They Hyenas were their own, they were scary as opposed to more comical, they were violent and they drew me in. Sarabi and Rafiki were well voiced, really felt the characters. And back to Nala, smaller part but wow ... so bad. Sounded like she was reading from a script. No feeling, no fluctuations, no acting ability. She was so far below the quality around her. If they really wanted her celebrity they should have let her sing but had an actor do the part. It was distracting, especially when we had all these wonderful voices and her talking voice didn't fit in with the others. It was like who let her in this party.

Because theaters mostly full and we decided to buy tickets last night we got stuck in 3D theater. I usually don't need that but it really did make the scenery pop out and think it worked great on this movie.

Off-topic: I love the Lion King Show at AK EXCEPT for the "Can you feel the love" with the birds and flying acrobatics. It's such and upbeat show and that is such a slow boring moment. Well I realized I hadn't seen original movie in long time and when it go to the scene with the song and just two of them .... I felt the same as the show, it was slow and boring. Even with a pretty song, it took away from movie too.

Disney just seems to want to pretend that CGI is real (aka Soarin') film. Maybe there is an industry name or category for what it is and if so they need to call it that. Nothing on that screen was "live" so enough already.

Beyonce reportedly was paid $25 million for her part. Her song “Brown Skin Girl “ is being hailed as the song of the century. Is there anything this woman can’t do?

Just who is hailing the song as “song of the century”? I found one reference to this on Tweeter by one person.

Rolling Stone says Crazy in Love is the song of the century -- so far. https://etcaEditnada.com/news/342731/rolling-stone-names-beyonces-crazy-in-love-the-greatest-song-of-the-century-so-far/

Meanwhile, other than "Spirit" Beyonce's song in Lion King, does anyone know of a song from a different movie this year that has a better chance of winning the next oscar for best original song?

Saw the movie this afternoon with a DIS friend, and we loved it. It's my favorite remake so far. I thought the animation was fantastic, and the best they could do with today's technology. I the animal faces weren't as animated at the 1994 version, but I didn't expect them to be as animated. I think it would have detracted from this particular movie and the way they portrayed the story. It's close enough to the original, but has enough differences to stand on it's own. (my humble opinion, of course) I loved the kids' singing voices, and Timon's singing voice, too. I haven't paid attention to the trailers or who the voice actors were, so had forgotten that it was Beyonce voicing Nala (I do all that research after I've seen a film, then go see it again with the different perspective.) We saw it in Dolby, and our chairs shook when the lions roared, lol. I'm going to watch it again on Sunday in IMAX this time with a couple of other friends (non-DIS ;) ) and will be looking closer at the effects.

Be Prepared isn't one of my favorite songs, and I thought it was interesting how it was done in this film. Not sure if I would have preferred the original song in this instance or not.
