The *OFFICIAL JUNE 2011 THREAD* "Some Like it Hot" & Some Like it Even Hotter! Part 2

Leaving in 9 hours and 40 minutes........just had to tell people who would be as excited as we are :cool1::thumbsup2:woohoo::cool2::cheer2:

Sounds like my schedule. I have 2 more days with students, 1 workday and graduation. I think we have several teachers in this group!

I guess it would make sense that there would be lots of teachers since we have few months that we can actually go to Disney. I guess we all have the same idea. :thumbsup2

Not sure what possessed us to go to WDW in this heat, but we leave in less than a week now! :cool1: This will be a short weekend trip to celebrate DBF graduating from college. Staying offsite from June 8th-12th.

Have great trips everyone!

This is probably because our school schedules keep us from being part of the "Some like it less crowded in the Fall" thread. Oh well...we're teachers and little things like heat and crowds can't intimidate us!

Need to add the banana dance because we're all going to Disney this month!

That is funny! I would love to be part of that thread some year, however, in the long run, there is just something about Disney in the summer and that heat that ...gasp...I really enjoy!

On another note, my son was just diagnosed with asthma this year in the late winter. He has had some pretty bad episodes (he has the cough variant). Sometimes it gets so bad that he can't stop couging and wheezing and starts turning blue. Does anyone have any tips for taking a child with asthma to Disney? We have never had to deal with this issue before and I'm a little nervous with the heat and humidity. I didn't even think about it until this week. It has been really warm and he has had a really hard time breathing. We have had code orange days the last three days here.

So excited that it is finally June - Our trips are really starting now!!!! :woohoo:

I've been pretty scarce the last few weeks and it's flown by! :cool1: We leave the house at 5:30am tomorrow to head to the airport. 2/3 of kids in bed and they have no clue! They think we're leaving saturday and driving down :lmao::lmao:

I'm excited to leave behind the 96 degree weather for the mere 92degrees forecast for WDW tomorrow :thumbsup2 oh...and the cicadas. I won't miss those things and they should be gone by the time we get back!

Happy trips to all of you!

Anjalee- my son has that type of Asthma too and it worse at night. Last time we went to WDW he had trouble with it and it developed into bronchitis, this time we are bringing his nebulizer and meds with us. I find if I keep him on the albuterol it tends to be better. I don't know if that's something that might help your son but it makes a huge difference with mine. He's been pretty bad this week with the allergies being so high so I will pack it. You can also get a peak flow meter to bring to monitor his breathing, it's inexpensive and it can tell you if his air flow is constricted. On a side note, I find the humidity actually helps.

Finally started packing today. We have 10 days left until we leave!! In about 2 1/2 hrs I can start doing the single digit dance :cool1::banana::cool1: Though since I have started packing, I'm finding more things I need to do which is starting to scare me. I thought I had been more proactive than I have actually been and can't find some of the stuff I thought I had put away for our trip :scared1:. I can't pack as much as I would like b/c the weather here has been so hot and we need our bathing suits and tank tops. I checked the weather the other night it had said: 96 degrees feels like 99 degrees (we live in nw maryland). disney world: 79 degrees feels like 81 degrees. I think we picked the wrong week to go, lol. Who knew it would be hotter in Maryland than in Disney world?!? To all the people there now, I envy you.

DH and I are both resp therapists so we have had some experience with asthma. I would assume your kids are on a long acting BD and steroid. It may be advantageous to use your short acting BD(albuterol) prophylacticly and for sure always have your inhaler with you. Liquid meds via nebulizer will work better in an exacerbation. As always, follow your Dr's orders regarding medication use. A peak flow meter is a good idea to help catch things early.

I am an asthmatic and I am worried about the heat.
It was 98 here in NC today and I had an attack.

Make sure you keep him on his schedule for his meds, keep the rescue inhaler handy and remember, caffeine (hot black coffee) can help if he is still having issues.

Even though it is going to be super hot, a hot drink can soothe the cough varient asthma.

Best of luck.

Going to Disney June 25th-July2nd.

My daughter fell and fractured her elbow yesterday! :sad1: She will be in a cast for at least 6-8 weeks (will know more after we see the ortho doc tomorrow). So that means a trip to disney (her first) in a cast.

Any advice???? :confused3

Thanks!

Okay I'm FREAKING OUT. We leave THIS Friday at 5pm (driving) and I just know I'm not packed right or made all of the right arrangements.

If YOU had one day to get ready for a Disney road trip what would you rush to get done? I ask because I just know I'm gonna be rushing all day tomorrow and at the moment I feel underpacked, and I just know I'm forgetting to do something.

Okay GO! You have 24 hours to get ready for an 11 day Disney road trip. All hotel, ADRs, park tickets, and auto tune ups are done for you. GO!

Forgot to say HI! I'm new to DISBoards, still learning the lingo!

We are going to WDW June 25th-July2nd, staying at Caribbean Beach Resort (first time on property) in 2 rooms (thanks to having 4 children!)

We are eating at Crystal Palace June 26th at 2pm (for my birthday), Hollywood and Vine June 27th at 5:40pm, Chef Mickey's June 28th at 7:20am, Akershus Royal Banquet Hall June 29th at 1:45pm, The Garden Grill June 29th at 7:45pm, and 'Ohana June 30th at 5:05pm

And now - if you read my previous post - I am going to try to figure out how to do Disney with a 6yo child in a full arm cast!

We leave as soon the the kids get off the bus from school (last day - half day). Time to clean, clean, clean - as much as I hate coming home after vacation it just seems less painful if the house is nice and clean.

We'll see you on the other side of our vacation!

It's here!! It's here!! Our car will be here at 4pm my oldest knows we are leaving today but the my ds14 and dd13 do not!! Can't wait to surprise them with the limo waiting!! We told them we are having a nice family dinner before we leave.. So when we come down to go to dinner.. All they will see is the car!

:woohoo::woohoo: :dancer:

thank you all for the well wishes!! If you guys are leaving after we have left.. May your vacation be as magical as possible! If you leave after I come back, I will be here to say goodbye!

Welcome! :welcome: Sorry to hear about the cast. It's always something once you have kids. All the planning you do and something unexpected seems to pop up. I don't have any experience with Disney in a cast but I'm sure someone else here has. But at least she can get the characters to sign it. That'd be cool.

:cool1: Have a great trip! I too clean like crazy before I leave, I get worried if there is a crumb on the floor that we'd come home to ants or something. I also turn the water off so we don't come home to a leak. I know crazy! :sad2:
