The Official January 2010 thread*NEW*Sorted by resort and ADR Link!

We will definitely be doing The Pirates League. So I guess you call the ADR # to make reservations???? Or would they have their own #?

How old are your sons? I see that your January 2010 resort is "TBD". Have you decided where you will stay?

My DS's are 7 and 9.
As far as our accomodations, I know we will be offsite because that is what we prefer. Having done both, we feel that our money is better spent on a condo or townhouse. Right now I have four or five "possibilities". Most of them 3 bedroom townhouses or condos for around $450-$500 for the week. I am waiting to book my airfare first before I book our condo. With SW not offering our dates until the end of June, I think it will be at least until then before I book "shelter".

This past January was my first time staying at WDW for a week and we stayed on property at the ASMU. I think that when my boys get older staying off property will be something we look into but for now we like staying on property. It just seems as if it is easier with the boys being young. No loading up the car to go the park and if one gets cranky or needs to go back to the room, the other one can stay at the park with a parent.

I definitely agree!! As you can see by my trip list below, onsite was awesome when they were younger. I took my oldest when he was 8-months old and would have been horrified if we were not onsite. Now that they are older, though, they can hang for the whole day, and I need them to have their own rooms at night or else :faint: !!

I am glad they did something for the boys. It is fun for them to get dressed up too, not just the girls. I wish they had that stuff when I was little.

They have the Cool Dude thing at the BBB. But a father posted somewhere that his son was so embarrassed to be there because of all the "girly" stuff. This definitely seems more geared towards the boys.

Hello everyone!

This will be my dd8's first trip to Disney World. My dh, ds and I went went ds was 3. He is now 13. We will be going the week of January 23 - 30, 2010.

I know nothing about booking rooms or anything. I want the trip to memorable but not expensive.

My ds and dd aren't into too much Disney. My dd likes Hannah Montana and HSM, but is not obessed like some little girls. ;) Ds likes Spiderman but isn't as crazy about him as he was when he was younger. He is more about the Playstation 3.

Any advice you guys have I would greatly appreciate it.

Welcome!!

Are you looking for onsite or off. Now that my kids are older, offsite is the way to go for us, because it is much cheaper and my boys are old enough where we no longer need "rests" like they needed when younger. There are a ton of offsite communities that are relatively inexpensive, but you would need a car to get to and from WDW. However, onsite is so much more convenient as far as location, transportation, etc. I have a DS9 who is very into our X-Box and hates to be outside, and a DS7 who enjoys outdoors/sports and hates to be inside. They are very different as I'm sure yours are. I will be more than happy to help you with your plans, reservations if you wish.

The value resorts are great. I think the best one is Pop Century. It is newer than the others and it has a nice theme to it. Really all of them do. If you wanted to stay in a moderate resort Port Orleans French Quarter is really nice. They have a great pool for the kids.

Hi everyone!

I'm joining in! We are going in January for the second year in a row!

This time a few things will be different!

First, it's a suprise for our kids! We're either goingto tell them on christmas or right before we leave!

Second, we are taking my sister, her DH and their 3 kids with us!! We tried to take them this past January but due to some problems on their end they had to cancel!

Third, it will be our very first trip as DVC owners!! DH and I took the DVC plunge after we toured during the trip we took in March for our 10th anniversary! It was a very nice anniversary present!!

We are super excited and I really hope we can keep it a secret! DD is normally my right hand man when it comes to planning so it's hard not to say things!! Not to mention I'm affraid my sisters kids will spill the beans! They've never been and are VERY excited, especially after having to cancel last year!! Also, my 13 year old niece will be spending the majority of her summer here with us so I have to make sure she doesn't slip!!

I can't wait to make reservation!!! I can do it on 6/9 I believe. We won't be staying at our home resort, AKV, because we need a Grand Villa and the Grand Villas at AKV are way too many points! I'm praying to be able to get a grand villa at OKW!

Right now I'm hoping for January 9th - 16th but am trying to be flexible in case we can't get a GV reservation at OKW for that week!

Anyway, thanks so much! Can't wait to get to know you all!

We're planning a trip Jan. 25-Feb. 2. Thinking about staying at ASmu. suites.Never been in January before due to kids being in school and all, but now they're raised(woo-hoo) we can go anytime !!:yay:

We stayed in the Family Suites last January and loved them. It was perfect for the group we had. Great to have two bathrooms and a kitchen area without the big price tag! :thumbsup2

This time we are going to try the CBR. Originally we were going to take the motorhome and stay at Fort Wilderness but once I saw pictures of the pirate rooms I changed our reservations. It will be a surprise for the boys (if I can keep the secret)!

We will also be headed back in January 2010 to celebrate my daughter's 4th birthday. We've gone in February before, but never January. We will likely go down the weekend after MLK day, hoping to avoid any crowds with the holiday or the marathon. We'll stay at the AKL, since I've always wanted to do that. I wish Disney would release the rates earlier! I'm an advance planner and hate having to wait, lol.

My DD will be four on Christmas eve, so our January trip is kind of to celebrate that and then also our 15th wedding anniversery this august. Our trip doesn't really coincide with the things we are celebrating but Jan sounded like a much better time to go...lower crowds, cooler weather, we do construction in WI so work is slower.

Anyhoo, our girls will both be 4 :cheer2: princess: princess: Two princesses!

How exciting for you guys!! I would plan to be there for atleast 4-5 days if was you. Also make sure you have atleast an idea of what you want to do and in what order. Buy a planning book....my fave right now is The Complete Walt Disney World 2009. It will give you a lot of inside info, as will these boards. If the kids aren't super Disnified yet, get them watching some of the movies. DS13 will probably get into the prirate movies, HSM, and maybe even Nemo or Lion King, depending on his personality. DD8 is still young enough to enjoy just about anything. I particularly enjoy the princess stuff with my DD4. Let them in on the planning as it will help get them excited! Try to get in a few dining experiences...maybe they would prefer the Spirit of Aloha as opposed to the Chef Mickey's?

Oh, I hope you have a wonderful time!

Pencil us in for the week of 9-16th!!! My dear in-laws are treating us to a vacation for our 15th wedding anniversery! How cool are they?!?!?

Cast will be Me (32) DH (33) DD (4) for the whole week and
MIL and FIL for 3-4 days of the trip!

We have yet to determine where to stay and what all to do. I am the only disney nut and only one that's ever been to WDW, so I am the official planner for this vacation.

So far, all I have done is determine dates and make a vacation planning questionnaire for everyone going. Once I figure out everyone's interests I can figure the rest out.

I have The Complete Walt Disney World 2008 and I love it. :lovestruc It is by far my favorite Disney guide. I'm thinking that the 2010 edition will come out at the end of this year but maybe I should get the 2009 one too! I find it's informative, easy to read, and has such beautiful pictures. My kids love looking at the pictures.

I just bought The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2009 and I really don't like it. It's hard to read and does not seem organized.

we're going Jan19-24th--It's my Daughters 5th birthday celebration and first trip to WDW--and Dh's first trip to disney too. But it's been 20 years since I was there so I might as well be a first time visitor :) We're going to be staying at either POP or one of the allstars. Do you think it will be crowded that week? Should I move it up a week--DD's birthday is the 22nd so we will definitely be there on her birthday

MLK Day is the 18th so maybe the 19th and 20th will be a little heavier with people making a long weekend out of it but in general as long as you go before Presidents Day in February, you should be good.

Maybe someone else that has been for MLK Day can offer some input.
