The Official Harper's Island thread starts 4/9/09....

Based on nothing in particular, my guess is that Abby's old boyfriend is the killer. Just my hunch. I don't think his brother [the local island bully guy - is that his brother or BFF] knows or has anything to do with it.

I'm pretty sure you're talking about Shane, and I think he's just BFF. And my guess is he's gonna get his in the next couple of weeks (since some speculate that he may have killed Kelly). I think the ex is a good call, although I'm still thinking there is something fishy with the sheriff's office. And the deputy, Cole, I believe was one that was injured by Wakefield way back when. Something not right there I think.

I thought they were brothers. :confused3 It's the biggest thing I hate about the show, it's so hard to get to know anyone.

I think Shane is a major Red Herring. Also now that the killer has specifically called out the sheriff, there's definitely something going on within the sheriff's dept.

I still feel like it could be two unrelated killers though. Especially since the main killer seems to be enamored of ****y traps(ETA ha! can't say that word--umm...Saw-like traps?)--there is definitely something important there--and Kelly's murder just doesn't fit the others--no red dye in the eyes (that we know of)...

Note that Harper's Island has been moved ("banished") to Saturday nights, due to poor ratings.

I would steel yourselves, not necessarily for them cutting the series off before it ends, but perhaps delaying subsequent episodes into the summer, should Saturday night's episode not do well enough.

Actually, it wasn't "poor" ratings that got the show moved, it was very high volume of internet viewings. Since so many are watching on the web, they can watch whenever, so no point in giving the show a prime slot on Thursdays, when it can do just as well in a lesser slot on Saturday. At least that's what I read about the move.

I am enjoying the show. I am going to check out Harper's Globe tonight, sounds interesting.

I don't think it is the sheriff. I'm hoping for something more original than John Wakefield's son getting revenge. Shane is definitely too obvious.

BTW Hi Nichole!! :wave2:

Hey Sarah....it's been a long time!

I agree you with Sarah about not being able to get to know the characters. I'm not sure of most of the names :confused3

I agree!

Thanks everyone for the heads up on Saturday nights now :thumbsup2 , I totally missed that. Saturday is actually better any way...too much other stuff I want to watch on Thursday.

I thought this last episode was the best so far. :thumbsup2 Glad to seem them getting better.

No, it was poor ratings. Live + SD ratings explicitly include time-shifting viewers, in direct proportion to the expectation that those eyes are being delivered to advertising, which is what ratings are supposed to be measuring. And Harper's Island has been delivering and average of a 2.2 rating (again live + SD). The average show on CBS scores more than 2.9.

The network will always paint the prettiest picture they can. "They're moving the show because it's better for DVR owners." "That's nice." The reality is that the time-slot on Saturday represents less of an opportunity cost to the network than the Thursday slot it was taking up previously. We can check tomorrow to see how well the Criminal Minds rerun does in that Thursday slot.

The new day and time works for me...I can actually stay up and watch it now. I certainly hope CBS doesn't cancel the show and make us watch it online for the duration...networks seem to do that often.

Well, to be fair, a Criminal Minds re-run is probably a better fit for CSI than Harper's Island. HI is, IMHO, CBS's attempt to grab a younger audience and the younger audiences tend to DVR, download shows, or watch them on-line more than the old fogeys CBS usually caters to. I think that even if they took HI off the air, they would probably still put the episodes up on the website and have the downloads available (maybe $1 an episode?).

And, NBC's Southland seems to be a hit, right? The other show on network at 10 is Private Practice, which frankly I have no idea how it does in the ratings.

I haven't read all the prior posts so if this has already been discussed....sorry! :hippie:

Does it bug anyone else that none of the characters ever seem to miss the murder victims?

At first I did until I realized that not much time has passed on the island - and Uncle Marty supposedly left a note, so nobody expects him until the day of the wedding. But I think that they are only on day 2, right? And it's assumed that Cousin Ben just missed the boat and isn't coming. So the only one they might miss would be the bridesmaid (what's her name?) but I think she just died the night before, so they might assume she's sleeping in, hungover, whatever. And the minister won't be missed by the wedding party until the rehearsal I would assume.

I read that despite the low Thursday night ratings. The showing is done well in DVR/Tivo numbers and online viewings.

Most DVR'ed shows on television:

The fact of the matter is that, quite often, great shows are simply not watched by enough viewers. It sucks. I think if, as it is in the UK, television entertainment was perhaps more publicly supported, then the networks would be a bit slower to kick shows that aren't performing. As things are, I think what we're going to see is more and more networks being pushed to do cheaper shows, and to fill time-slots with stuff that makes the most money.

I've seen the same thing and it makes sense to me, despite what other sites say is a "myth." Who knows what is correct. But I know that there is a big following of harpers globe online, and that is just such a miniscule following compared with the tv show. A lot of folks don't even know about the parallel online show.

anniemae - it's been moved to Saturdays beginning this week.....

Ok....so did anyone else think that the death of the nerd guy with glasses (guy shot himself in leg) seemed a little "funny"? He bled so quickly...almost died too quickly. What if he "shot" himself by accident (made it look like he bled) and then he is really alive.....I mean excellent cover, friend thinks he is dead....would do anything to cover it up........and we think he is dead...we think he is weak.

I am very very suspicious of the fact that NO ONE but the girl that was hanged has been found...yet we are told that they are dead.

Another question - - the money how now changed hands again. First, I think that was Uncle Marty's gun and money, right? Then, ex-boyfriend finds it on boat...then glasses guy has it, now chubby groomsman has it. The question is, what is that money for? It obviously is not wanted by the killer since it moves around so much, so why was it on the island...someone wanted it.

I think that there are two killers going around......something to do with Abby's past and someone else to do with the wedding guests and this money.

Any thoughts?????
