The *Official* February 2011 Thread - Happy Dance Time...The Park Hours Are Out!

So...lets just pretend that Disney is going to offer the buy 4 get 3 deal again this Feb...

That is just for the hotel room days, right? Or do you buy 4 tickets and get 3 free too with the whole package?? I'm really confusing myself here lol.

Mandy- I did a search online-
Here is the link to the one one the first weekend http://uda.varsity.com/nationals.aspx

Do you guys know about how long it takes to do Animal Kingdom (hours)? It would be 2 adults and a 3 year old.

Thanks!

Beth

Booked for Feb! I will now try to narrow down our dining! We are going Feb 17-25th staying at POP and going to venture over to see Harry Potter (gotta figure that one out!)

Beth- So hard to say about Animal Kingdom- We LOVED it- our 4 yr old's favorite park! It totally depends on what you want to see- we were there from 9am-4:00pm and didnt get to do the Nemo or Lion King show (because both out little ones were napping in the stroller and we didnt want to wake them). I loved walking the jungle trail and pangani trail (took less than 40 minutes to do both). The dino dig site was pretty neat for kids too! Some people say you can do it in half a day, but we prefer to just walk around leisurely and take it all in :)

We are tentatively scheduled for 2/26-3/5/11 and these 8 am MK days are confusing me. So not used to that! Is that usual for this time of year? We went this same week in 2008 and I don't remember that at all.

I'm thinking our 3 year old is going to love it also but my husband seems to think we can do it quickly. I'd rather stroll leisurely as well.

Our flights lands (hopefully!) at 9:30am our day of arrival. I figured we wouldn't be to the hotel until at least 11:00 am. Drop our bags, grab a bite to eat at the food court, and then head to a park. I was thinking MK cause I want to start our first trip off there (we went last year to MK but only one day and it was too crazy). My husband said we could go to AK since he'll want to be back to watch the Super Bowl.

Or maybe not do a park at all that day and just hang around the resort? I wasn't thinking of doing that since adding another day for parks is only like $20.

Thoughts?

Well our last visit it was all of our first time at AK and we (stupidly) scheduled that for the last day of our trip. DUMB idea. We were all pretty tired, stuffed from the DDP and I was CRANKY because I knew that I had a big drive home ahead of me. We didn't get to see everything we wanted to see but did get to see the Nemo show which was VERY fun and DD's loved it. I would say take it at a leisurely pace. Superbowl doesn't start till later anyway and if you are planning on going Sunday AK is open until 9 that night. AK usually closes around 6-7 so I'm sure you could get everything done during that time frame. Oddly enough we will be there 2/6 as well...and I believe another poster will be too! Wouldn't that be neat to meet up :)

I think its a smart idea to start your trip with AK or schedule it towards the beginning of your trip if you have never been there. I didn't realize all there is to do there prior to going. If it comes between MK and AK you will be able to get more done at AK starting late IMO. MK is also the park to avoid that day according to touringplans so try and keep that in mind as well :)

This is making my head spin!

It looks like AK is only open until 6 pm on February 6. I believe it's the 9th it's open until 9 pm.

I'm guessing MK is the worst park b/c a lot of people want to be there for the Super Bowl. I don't know. That doesn't make much sense either. I was just thinking of doing MK just to go there. Not necessarily ride a bunch of rides, etc. Just to get the "feel" of Disney started... If we got on a few rides, super, if not, eh, no big deal.

Plus we have to be up around 4 am that morning also. So by 4 pm, our 3 year old will have 12 hours in. And she's not really a napper....

What to do?!?!?!?

Another dumb question, do you have to pay to do Downtown Disney or have a park ticket? What is there to do there for kids?

Beth

Beth- ok, so you are arriving on Sunday the 6th at 9:30am- probably wont get to a park till 1ish? hmmmm- how many days are you going for? if you do MK, DH will want to leave by 6pm anyways right? You could go to MK, grab lunch somewhere and take it all in- however- it may be crowded as you said and you may only get to go on one or two rides. Thats what we did last trip, and what we are planning on doing for our February trip too (except we arrive on Saturday the 5th- we are going to eat in the MK, and stay for the nigth parade and fireworks) You could do Animal Kingdom, but you may feel rushed if thats your only day there. What are your plans for Monday the 7th? I heard that MK is PACKED that day too so we are headed to Epcot

As far as superbowl- We were thinking of leaving Animal Kingdom around 5:30 and heading to ESPN Zone for dinner/game BUT I heard its gets CRAZY packed. I am pretty sure most resorts have their own superbowl party where they set up a bunch of tvs in the lounges and extra chairs. We will probably end up doing the lounge party- then watching part of the game in our room.

Downtown Disney- its free! No ticket needed. Forgot where you are staying but you can take a bus there from your resort, if you are staying at POR you can take a boat there. Its a huge shopping area- Goofys Candy Co (great candy and baked goods), Once upon a Toy (largest Disney store- toys set up for kids to play), Christmas shop (awesome ornaments), Lego Land (HUGE lego store, toys set up for kids to play), fun to walk around, lots of places to eat.

DisneyFirstTimer (not sure your name, haha),

I'm not sure what we're doing Monday. I left my list at home. I know it wasn't MK though. How do you know that day is going to be packed? Cause it's the last day for that cheer group there??

I told my husband that I'm sure it's going to be crazy at Downtown Disney for the Superbowl. So maybe we'll go to MK for lunch there, stroll around, and not hope it's packed so we can at least walk (this wasn't the case this year in March) and then head to Downtown Disney, depending on how everyone is holding up since we'll all have been up at 4 am to catch our flight. I'd be fine with watching the game from our hotel room and we very well just may do that.

We are most likely staying at Pop unless a pin code/deal makes it better for us to upgrade.

I forget where you are staying.

Thanks so much for your responses! It's really really helping me!

Beth

No Problem Beth! My name is Allison. We are staying at Pop too unless a discount comes out and then we are thinking about staying at CSR or POR French Quarter. I heard on the disboards that after the superbowl sometimes the VIP of the game comes to Magic Kingdom for a parade on Monday....dont think its guaranteed though. We absolutely have to plan a DISBOARD meetup for February!!!

We are staying at POP. 1/26-2/2!! Haven't booked yet but made some ADR's for CP 1/29 at 9:10AM Princess storybook lunch at Epcot on 1/28 12pm!! Can't wait. We are planning to book next month!!! Can't wait!!! Do you think paying for the Touring plans is worth it?

agh, your right sorry!! It's open till 9 on the and 9th...I apologize! I'm just about as confused as you are here and didn't have my paperwork in front of me either :headache:

DTD is "free". There is a TON of things to do for the kiddos, stores, etc. They have like a little splash area for them as well...umm..goofys candy company is down there as well.

Sat, 05 Feb '11 6 MK HS
Sun, 06 Feb '11 7 EP MK Superbowl Sunday
Mon, 07 Feb '11 5 HS AK
Tue, 08 Feb '11 2 MK HS AK EP
Wed, 09 Feb '11 2 MK EP HS AK
Thu, 10 Feb '11 5 EP AK MK
Fri, 11 Feb '11 6 HS AK MK
Sat, 12 Feb '11 4 MK AK HS

According to touring plans AK would be the park to avoid on the 7th...I seriously hope MK isn't going to be packed. Oh well, it can't be as bad as 456,789 brazillian tour group members which is what we had to deal with last year ;)

Mandy, are those the most up-to-date #s from touring plans? From what I show from a few weeks ago, things have changed. Is that current as of today?

Beth

Also, I need some help planning, Guys, so who wants to do it? ;)

I'm driving myself crazy trying to plan this out and I've only just begun.

Ok, so dates are Feb 6-11, on-site (at least for now; am seriously thinking of changing to the following week and if so, I'll be begging for another plan).

- Want to do the electric parade at MK which is only offered Monday and Thurs while there.
- want to do Fantasmic at EP (I think??? is it worth it???) which is offered only on Wedn (also on Sunday but for sure not doing Epcot Sunday).
- I think I want to start our first day at MK (Sun) and end it there on Friday but don't necessarily have to do that.
- don't mind visiting MK 2-3 times if necessary and the other places only once (I'm assuming since my daugther loved MK last year (only went one day and that was the only park) she will again. She's only 3.

Can anyone help me? This is for 2 adults and a 3 year old. Wasn't planning on doing park hoppers but if you think we need them, I can be convinced. It's only 6 day park tickets.

Also, probably won't do breaks in the afternoon since my husband won't want to and go back to the room around dinner or after (he thinks it's a waste of time... not sure about that either, maybe he'll change his mind once there and we see how the transportation and time is back and forth). Daughter and I may head back to a park later if it's still open (which might not happen).

Thanks!!! :goodvibes

As far as the #'s go I have no idea, I didn't know they change, I was just going by what someone else had posted on here ??

I wouldn't park hop with children...but since you only have the one that may be a OK option for you guys. It seems more like a PITA if you ask me, going from park to park, especially with little ones tagging along. In reality you do lose time that way. I personally prefer to stay in one park, per day. Not to mention its extra $$$ to park hop. Money I'd rather spend doing something else in Disney. It's a personal preference though ;)

Fantasmic is at Hollywood Studios, not Epcot. For us its a total MUST DO. It was an incredible show and my DD had just turned 2 at the time and was in total awe while watching it (as was my then 7 year old!). It's just something you have to see to understand what Im talking about :)

I'm also starting my trip and ending at MK. We'll arrive around 1ish at MK if all goes well with our early morning flight. We plan on doing 3 MK days total, 2 Epcot (my girls love it there too), and one each of HS and AK.

FWIW we never did or needed breaks away from the parks last year with the girls. When we needed to rest we thankfully had our ADR's and that was a big plus for us. It just depends on the child I suppose but my girls are commandos like myself so it all worked out well. The only day I headed back early was when I made the mistake of riding mission space  But DH stayed behind with DD#1. Ughhhh

Keep in mind that prices go up the further you get into Feb. and so does the crowd levels:eek:
