~*~*~The Oct 2014 waiting patiently (or not so) for a discount thread ~*~*~

Now that we know FD is most likely excluded for a good chunk of October, does anyone suspect that to tie in with RO? Historically do those offers match or are they completely different with dates and such?

So bummed that our dates might be excluded. We are firm on October 21-27th for an adults only trip. Mother in law has the kids and we can't really change her schedule. On the bright side, maybe the parks will be emptier without free dining during most of our trip.

We are going 10/22-10/26. I was so bummed about the free dining( for my DD coming from Ohio with her family) but you just cheered me up!!! The parks may be emptier because of no FD!! But wait, now my real question is now :WHY is there no free dining that time????It's not Columbus Day or Halloween, any ideas?

Thanks a ton for posting that info! Looks like fingers will remain crossed until late July for a RO discount. If not then we'll just REALLY enjoy our trip by paying full price! Hah!! I will enjoy every little tiny moment for that cost. Even the moments standing in the monorail line after Illumnations. Remind me of this please!

I expect you will be happy with what you get. Remember, Disney has not released PIN codes for your dates and with staying at a deluxe you may come out better with RO offer:)

Free Dining should be available as soon as Thursday, May 1 for Disney Visa holders and Wednesday, May 7 for the general public. You can book through September 12.

The likely dates included are:
August 31 - October 3
October 26 - November 1
November 9 - November 20
December 12 - December 23

source? seems odd and a departure in terms of dates and announcement from many years in the past.

The original source is very reliable, and the dates are similar to last year, with the exception of the extended black out in October. That is not surprising though, because many schools are adding fall breaks, and last year was pretty crowded.

thanks.

oh well. if no FD, we will just stay off property and use down some passes we have bought over the years and spend less time at the parks.

very true. we arrived on Oct 19th (first Saturday after the FD blackout ended) and waited an hour just to board the Magical Express bus.

Thanks, and DARN! :headache: My friends are arriving on the 20th of October and my SIL on the 19th.

Ugh! I could cry... I can move my dates a little, but not that much... I am going to be back to the drawing board :( We wanted to start that 18th

Thanks for sharing the good news, black.

I was guessing FD would start Oct 1 or 2 based on last year. I had planned on arriving around then if I can score FD. If not, we will just arrive a few days later and have a shorter trip.

I hope the fact that we aren't Disney Visa holders won't ruin my chances. I've never been able to take advantage of Free Dining before so this would be a first!

Okay, SIL is choosing a second set of dates now, in the event that her week is not included. Now I am happy that we haven't found good airfare rates yet because she isn't locked in to those October dates.

Haven't talked to friends yet, but I don't think their vacation dates are flexible. :headache:

I will pull up a seat next to you on the RO discount waiting bench if that's ok! :goodvibes Our dates are excluded from the free dining intel posted above. I'm not sure if we could take advantage anyway even if our dates fit because we're doing one night AoA and 2 nights BWI (is there a 3 night minimum on FD?). Anyway, if we could get a RO discount on even those two BWI nights that sure would be great! If not, we're still going as airfare is bought and I made all our plans assuming rack rate.

it's looking more and more like we'll be staying at the Dolphin this Oct rather than the YC but I'm ok with that. (looking for a RO discount) I can push a week to arrive in FD but I am really more interested in the RO savings.

I feel bad for all those Oct folks who where wishing so hard for the weeks that seem to be excluded. :sad1:

Love the bright side that the parks and restaurants will be less crowded

Just as an FYI for anyone interested -

Oct 25-28 there is a huge convention in Orlando for the IACP. The projected number of attendees, according to the Orlando Convention Center, is 22,000. Multiply that number times family members (say 4 per family) and that's an extra 88,000 people during that week :worried:

Do you think they'll really be less crowded? We're going during the excluded weeks and I hope so, but I've been reading that it was really crowded last October. And, in 2012 we experienced that crowd increase ourselves. I'm a worrier and I just don't want to spend a week in lines (we were spoiled when oct had no lines).

I just assumed they will be crowded and FD wasn't offered because the resorts aren't having trouble filling up. Curious to hear others opinions :)

It will be crowded. Nothing like Spring break or summer, but still crowded.

Question about discounts as first time going to DW. Are Dining discounts tied to resort discounts. i.e. if these are the dates for FD, then are these likely the dates for any resort discounts? We are coming Oct 19th so miss the FD discount
