~*~*~The Oct 2014 waiting patiently (or not so) for a discount thread ~*~*~

Nothing yet. Fall deals usually release in late July/early August. That week is always excluded from FD, but you might be able to get a room discount. Good luck! :goodvibes

So the week of Columbus Day is typically excluded? What if we were to check in before the exclusion dates, like the friday before Columbus Day? I'm not sure how the discounts work.

Wow. News to me. Is this a new thing? I've never heard of a "Fall Break." Lol lucky kids.

We live in the south, and for years, our schools have had a fall break, although for us, it's mostly Thurs, Friday and a Monday. It's always been in October, and sometimes as early as the first weekend. That's why we picked the 11th-19th for our upcoming trip.

And....called my cm yesterday and she said "There's nothing as far as discounts for October yet...but hold on, wait about a month, and surely there will be"...
Here's hoping...:thumbsup2

Last year there was no free dining from October 3-17th. Last year Columbus Day was the 14th, this year its the 13th.

There was a RO only discount last October but I can't remember if Columbus Day weekend was excluded from that. RO would only apply to your actual dates, unlike FD where if you check in on an eligible date you get it for the whole trip (up to 14 days)

I obsessed about what October dates for our trip last year and finally went with arrival on Oct 19th based on the suggestion of a couple of people on the DIS that it was likely there would not be FD around Columbus Day.

Fall break is great! We get a week off here in Kentucky, and they moved ours back so it doesn't fall on Columbus Day this time. I'm hoping that means even smaller crowds! We are booked for Oct. 4-11!

Subbing! :hyper:

I just made our October 2014 ressies yesterday. We are staying at the Polynesian which is probably a bad idea with all the construction going on but it is our favorite resort and we just can't bring ourselves to stay anywhere else.

Our dates are Oct 18-24.

:yay:

It will probably be fine, especially if you're poly lovers. No one really knows how the construction will be yet.

The week before is typically excluded as well. Last year's covered check in dates were October 1, 2 and 18-31, and in 2012, the dates were October 1-4 and 19-31.

My head is spinning from all of my calculations. We are currently booked at POR for October 11-18 (rack rate of course). We are definitely going either way but I do want to figure out the best option for us. We are a family of 5 and my husband is active duty so there are many what ifs in the discount area. I am not hopeful of FD during that time though it would be nice. Anyone have historic dates of room discounts so I can have a backup plan if the military salute is not extended? I am thinking that is the best bang for our buck. I am not opposed to SOG but I have never visited the resort.

I'm in a similar situation. Currently booked at SOG. We have stayed there several times and we don't mind it at all. Rooms are big, property is nicely maintained and clean. Pools are fine (and recently remodeled). Also, there is a great Starbucks coffee cart and freshly made ice cream daily. That being said, it's definitely less convenient than staying right on property so i am waiting to see if the military discount is offered again next year and then hoping that there will be a room left at BC, which I've always wanted to try!

A lot to read through here. Any insight on when Fall Visa offers will be out? Want to book a mod and start making ADRS next month. We will book ASAP, but then be on the phone morning of offers to re-book.

Offers should be released late July or early August. As an insight and the thought of many on here, booking before discounts are released will limit discounts and resorts choices for the discounts that are released.
Why would Disney discount a room that is already booked?? You do not need a reservation to book ADR's, simply book those each morning they open up @ 180 days. If your happy paying full price for your room/package then book what you want, but if your planning on adding a discount to your package then you may just be shooting yourself in the foot.

Last year, there was a room discount covering the following dates...

September 29 – October 5
October 20 – November 2
November 10 – 22
December 15 – 23

Thinking of this week as well. Been there during that week before and it was heavenly...hoping for something!

Thanks for those links :) We're happy paying full price, but free dining would be nice. I'd rather book early for the room and resort we really want, and then if offers come out we will look at those, but only if we keep close to what we want. We've done this for the past 5 years, have gotten free dining the past three (two with PIN codes).

I've read a lot of the comments on here about "if too many book, they won't discount".

New to this group and just starting to plan an October long weekend the first weekend. What are pins? I want to book now, but like everyone else I am hoping there is a free dining offer. When is that usually published and if I book now and then it is offered can I have them apply to my reservation?

Im in the same boat too. Waiting for some kind of code to come out. We are booked Oct 9-18th for our honeymoon. My fiance wants the deluxe plan 3 meals per day so I have high hopes for free dining and just pay the upgrade fee.

So I booked our airfare today so we are officially going for Halloween!! I'm still fighting the good fight and holding out for the discounts before I book our rooms. I'm not going to lie, it is hard!!
