Background:
I am a recent convert to the world of Disney vacations. We travelled to WDW several times when I was a small child and I have some wonderfull memories. I vividly remember the feeling of the blue plastic strollers when I was 4 yo. My Mom still talks about the tantrum I threw every time she stuck me in said stroller. I was horribly embarrased at the thought that Mickey Mouse would see me that way and think I was a baby.
I went on a girls only trip with my sister and some friends back in 2002 after many years and I had such a fabulous time that I found myself unable to stop thinkning about WDW when I got home. I found the Dis and the Unofficial Guide and learned that half of the fun of a trip to WDW is the planning. During this time period DH and I embarked on a lengthy battle with infertility. Eventually we were blessed with our first little boy, my 2yo wonder Jack. Sis and I took combined a family wedding with a quick trip to WDW in February 2005 (when he was 10 months old). We left our DH's at home since neither of them thought a week of traveling with our family sounded like much of a vacation. Our trip was tough at times, but fun also. But, it really left me wanting to return with just my guys. DH is a fabulous travel partner, always calm and relaxing. I knew we could have a great time.
I planted my seeds carefully. Beginning with Jack. Subtly, I taught him to love Mickey and all things Disney. He loves the vintage Disney cartoon dvd we play for him in the car. As he got older he really loved sitting on my lap in front of the computer and looking at pictures of the world on the Dis boards. The Disney picture of the day thread on the Theme Parks board has given us hours of entertainment alone. By the time Playhouse Disney introduced Mickey Mouse's Clubhouse I knew I had him hooked.
After a surprise pregnancy gave us our sweet Sammy in March I put the Disney plans on hold for awhile. After all, I had taken Jack at 10 months and it had been a hard trip. But, Sam is a completely different baby from Jack. Calm and even tempered, he excels at sleeping and eating. In short, a natural traveler. When I noticed the advertised discount at the Swan and Dolphin for nurses, an idea started to brew. I eventually talked DH into a trip in early December at the Dolphin. Yay! Victory was mine.
Then Disney had to go and announce the free dining special for this year and throw a little monkey wrench in these plans...
