We love TNF products! Hard to find for kids around here, so I am doing my online research for when we go shopping/vacationing in states.

Can anyone tell me the major difference in the Khumbu vs. Denali fleece jackets? Want to get them for the kids, and haven't had a chance to actually see in person. Hubby and I love our Denali gloves though!

It seems that they are made of the same 300 fleece, but Denali might be waterproof and windproof too? What about sizing or fit differences?

Seems to be a substantial difference in price between both styles, so any help anyone can give, would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Tiger :)

I personally like the Denali better. The material seems to be softer whereas on the Khumbu is it stiffer and not as comfortable. I would definitely pay more to get the Denali.

My daughter has two of the Khumbas and she LOVES them. It is still a Northface and still keeps her warm. It is very soft to me. We are not all about keeping up with the Jones and paying out of the nose just to say we have the most popular and most expensive things.

It washes great and have had NO problems with them.

Difference is the fleece gram weight. Denali is 300 wt. (the heaviest)and Khumbu I believe is 200wt. 100 wt. is the lightest. Denali is the most popular with teens. Denali is not windproof or waterproof however there is a version that is- Denali Windstopper for men. Goodluck figuring it all out....there is also Thermal Denali, Denali hoodies,Osso Hoodie and Osito. This season I noticed a trend away from Denali and to the Aconcagua Jacket in our area.

Thanks. This has nothing to do with the Joneses - that's far from how we work around here. It's very cold and windy out, so I need to get something warmer as Columbia quality is horrible nowadays. Polyester coats and coats that get soaked nowadays (their quality has really slid), just don't cut it anymore, so we are done with Columbia. We only buy very good quality clothes and shoes because it's worth it, not because others expect us to. The North Face is hard to find around here, especially for children. Hubby and I can't believe how warm The North Face products are, not to mention they have an exceptional warranty, so thanks for the review of the Khumba! I did read on some other reviews that people found Khumba to be a bit hard and not so soft, so not sure until we actually can try them on. Thanks again!

Thanks to all for the info. Very helpful. I have noticed discrepancies on websites (notice this often), as many of them have both styles listed as 300 fleece, and some of them mention that they are windproof.

I swear The North Face's own website does too! I have looked at lots of different websites, so I must have confused something. LOL!

Thanks, Tiger

DS20 and DD19 have both kinds. The difference to us is that the Khumba doesn't have the shiny part that the Denali has. The rest of it seems the same. Both of them wear the "in" clothes and they wear the Khumba as much as the Denali. About the weight, not sure about that since we live in south GA and we don't get the negative numbers that some get.

Another person who thinks the Denali is warmer than the Khumbu. My kids have both and tend to wear the Khumbu in spring/fall and the Denali more when it is winter. We are in Chicago and get the cold days (20+ inches of snow tonight too!!)

Make sure they try them on too -- they are cut a little differently.

Thanks. You are the first to mention cut. Is one bigger than another?

Hubby and I find TNF winter coats to be cut small, but we tried on a girls TNF Resolve jacket on DD yesterday, and it was larger than we expected. Both our kids have long torsoes, so this is a concern.
